JD recently advertised on their social media that they had a cardio upgrade including new spin bikes but they completely excluded upgrading the room dedicated to cardio - the spin room.
The bikes in the spin room in JD Cumbernauld have been needing replaced for well over a year. Various emails have been exchanged with head office and management about the bikes but they are only ever “patch” repaired.
The bikes are completely inconsistent with numerous faults and problems.
NONE of the existing bikes are working great, there are a few (approx 10-12) that are rideable but still with difficulty. Even the ones that are “passable” are so below par, they all have different problems… some have a really stiff lever making it difficult to transition between effort levels, some of the bike resistance levels are far too hard making it unusable, some of the clocks don’t show output, one has a dodgy cleat clip and they are all completely inconsistent making it difficult to track progress. There are more attendees than “working” bikes (testament to your instructor - not the gym) which means when you turn up there’s a chance of not getting a bike at all, making the motivation to attend pretty hard to keep up.
The instructor Kelly does a fabulous job of encouraging us all to make the most of it and to try our best to get our classes in but the most recent upgrade of cardio kit while EXCLUDING the spin room which is a whole room dedicated to CARDIO is completely disheartening. It’s like the spin class attendees are not cared about at all.
It’s not like these complaints and constant problems have only just been discovered, myself and my class mates have been trying to raise awareness of the lack of standard in the spin studio for well over a year. Super disappointing!
When coming back I notice most machine are old or really out of date for example the leg machine for quads you can't control where the pad sit which effects ppl gains

Generally very good. Loads of space and lots of equipment. The boxing area could be a lot better though.

Great gym decent equipment good variety of stuff not a big fan of leg extension equipment though tricep extension machine would be an advantage and leg extension machine and open a wee bit later on weekends would be hard to beat this gym

My experience at the gym is a wonderful one, the staffs are very friendly and helpful they take time out to assist in whatever areas of fitness that you need help with. However the previous gym I was going to I was allowed to do 1 hour treadmill running on mornings and 1 hour weights on evenings but with jd I’m at a disadvantage with that because they only allow you to workout once a day.

Very disappointing experience with the P.T.
I have lost all faith in the gym.

The guys were very helpful and professional and couldn't do more for me. And the facilities are perfect with plenty to use. And the value for money is great. Highly recommended!

Up the stairs, there more than enough treadmills and cross trainers but only 4 stairmasters and only 1 of each weight machine, which is often an issue when all the lads from school congregate around 1 machine making it impossible to get a shot, yet nothing gets said to them by staff.
The weight machines are sometimes out of action, and I put it down to some of the men using them, who let the weights slam down at the end of each set instead of using a controlled motion, which no doubt contributes a lot to the wear and tear of them. Again, nothing gets said to them.
There are 3 rowing machines up the stairs but none of them are currently working, and there are 3 exercise bikes with moving arms in the free-weight are but none of them worked when I tried them the other day neither.
There used to be rolls of blue paper and antibacterial spray to clean the machine after use, but they're not there anymore, and I don't see may people using anything to wipe the equipment after use.
The changing rooms are cleaned often, but for me, the lighting is inadequate. Many of the locking parts on the lockers don't close properly, and people put their stuff in them without padlocking them, so it's often a case of opening a lot of them before finding an empty one.
As someone previously said in a review, the gym is often very cold and I always have to wear a jumper when that's the case.
The classes that I've tried are very good, but the gym promotes using the app to check when classes are on or cancelled but is often not changed or updated when a class is cancelled.
To my knowledge, all the staff are pretty friendly, apart from the shortish, very stocky guy with glasses, who comes across very arrogant and doesn't even acknowledge me when we cross paths.
All in all, I only use the gym because it's cheap, convenient and I'm not tied in to a contract. Otherwise, I wouldn't hesitate in going elsewhere.
