I have ordered and loved J&P for over 40 years especially when in Seattle with great roses. This year I ordered two shrub roses, soaked them overnight, dud an ample hole, put a mound and fertilizer and water in hole, placed bareroot plant and filled. Have had success inn these same beds in No. Calif. Both plants were essentially brown and dead and have done nothing.#s44659,44657; ZZ008041, ZZ008032. Any ythoughts? Refund? Replacement.

I’m really sorry to hear how these arrived and that they haven’t taken off—that’s disappointing, especially after getting everything planted so carefully. Thank you for letting us know.

I’ll reach out by email to get a few more details, and we’ll work through this together to make it right, whether that’s a replacement or a refund.

The roses are of poor quality, one bush with two stems

The roses are of poor quality. One of the bushes has two branches and will never amount to anything. The roses are very young, have pencil thin stems and will take years to become anything. The quality of roses found at Lowes for under $15 have more branches and the branches are much thicker. I ordered 5 roses, 3 were delivered. I've ordered previously, they are slow growing and I should have known better than to order from J & P again.

For the most part rose plants arrived, well, packed, and moisturized and healthy looking. For the few out of the mini that I ordered that were not survivors. The customer service agent was extremely accommodating and replacements were rapidly received.

18/19 the roses have been outstanding, the last one, was not in the best of shape. Loose potted, and dry, after a week in transit. I will continue to use J&P, because their roses are superior to the ones locally.
** J&P have sent a replacement, in outstanding condition. I could not be happier. I have since ordered 5 more roses, these will be added to my 150 roses.
Thank You, Gwen, great working with you. John

Thanks for the update—I’m glad to hear some of your roses are already putting on new growth.

Bare root roses can come out of dormancy at different rates, so it’s not unusual for some to take a bit longer than others to wake up. Giving them another week or two is a good plan.

If any of them still don’t start to grow, please let us know and we’ll make it right.

Hi Susan,
Yuma is not messing around with those temps—over 100 and your plants are still hanging in there? That says a lot about your gardening skills.

I’m glad to hear they arrived healthy and are off to a strong start. Sounds like you’ve got them in just the right spot.

Stay cool!

I am a long time J @P Amarylis…

I am a long time J @P Amarylis customer. This year I sent 3 Amarlis to friends at Xmas. 2 were duds. Only leaves grew
When I called customer service about the first one, I wanted a new one sent but they didn’t have them so I wanted my money back. It was very hard to get money returned but finally did.
When I heard the second one only had leaves I didn’t have the energy to fight with customer service
I made a decision then to use Amazon next year.
Disappointed customer

An old man, who’s switching companies

For a number of years, I have been buying Johnson and Perkins tree roses and other roses. Supposedly they are appropriate for my zone; however, probably 60+% of them fail to root and thrive properly within the first four months and for those that do root, they don’t come back the next year. These plants receive proper transplant, soil conditioning, and care as I am an older gentleman who’s been around the block a few times. So this year, after losing much $$ and time to only be disappointed, I have stopped buying their product and stopped recommending it to others because the success rate is just dismal. And the customer service has been spotty and mixed.

Hi Barry,

I’m really sorry to hear this—especially after the time and care you’ve put into planting and maintaining your roses. I can understand how frustrating it is to see that level of loss over multiple seasons.

This isn’t the experience we want our customers to have, and it’s concerning to hear about both the survival rate and the inconsistency in service. We’d appreciate the chance to take a closer look at what’s been happening with your orders.

If you’re open to it, please email me at info@jacksonandperkins.com , Attn: Gwen, with your order details. I’d like to review this with you and see how we can make this right.

Thank you,

Hi James,
Thank you so much for reaching out! I completely understand how important it is to know when your roses will arrive, especially when you’re eager to get planting.

Because roses are living plants, we don’t ship them during the winter months. Instead, we use a shipping schedule based on USDA Plant Hardiness Zones so your roses arrive at the right time for planting in your area. This helps ensure they travel safely and get off to the best possible start.

You’ll find a link to the estimated shipping schedule on each rose product page, which gives a general idea of when shipments begin for your zone. And just for peace of mind — we don’t bill your card until your order actually ships.

I’d be happy to take a look at your specific order and give you a more accurate estimate. Just send an email to info@jacksonandperkins.com
, Attn: Gwen, with your order details, and I’ll be glad to help.

We really appreciate your patience and the chance to assist — we want to make sure your roses arrive at just the right time and thrive once they’re planted. 🌹

Thank you,
Gwen

Declining Quality and Poor Customer Service

If I could, I would rate JP ‘0’ zero based on my recent experience with poor product quality and extremely poor response (or lack thereof) by JP Customer Service.

Product quality has been significantly declining. This year I placed an order for 6 amaryllis bulbs as Christmas gifts and 3 were rotten and not growing. It is not acceptable and embarrassing that I send these poor-quality gifts to family members.

I did get a refund for one of the bulbs but JP has been non-responsive toward resolving and providing my requested refund for the other two. I provided photos and answered JP questions 12/27/25 but after that, with repeated follow-up emails and phone calls, I have not had the courtesy of any response whatsoever from JP. The last communication I had was my call to Customer Service 1/14/26 and I was assured that a supervisor, Jared, was to call me that same day. I have not had any response from him!!!

I’ve been a loyal customer for 14 years and Christmas time every year have placed orders for a significant quantity of amaryllis bulbs for different family members. This latest experience has completely destroyed credibility in this company with the terrible customer service ignoring every attempt I’ve made to get help. If this is how long term customers are treated, I’ll be taking my business elsewhere.

Holiday Disappointment

***UPDATE 1/7/2026: Not only was the gift I ordered delivered after Christmas, Jackson & Perkins sent the wrong item (poinsettia not anthurium) and it was in very poor condition upon arrival. That said, the team at Jackson and Perkins has gone out of their way to correct the situation. They contacted me personally, they gave me a fast and full refund for my original order and they sent complimentary anthurium as I had ordered to my friend and then one to me to thank us for our patience. I have upgraded my review to three star: one star for the absolute failure on my Christmas gift order, but five stars for the expedient and corrective customer service. I am willing to give them a try again in the future.***

Initial review (one star): I placed a gift order online Friday, 12/19, and had every indication at that time that my gift would be delivered by Christmas. I just received tracking information stating the order won’t arrive until Monday, 12/29. I’m very disappointed and would not have purchased this item through Jackson & Perkins had I known it would be arriving after Christmas. Also, Jackson & Perkins did not let me know it was going to be late - I was only made aware by checking the UPS order tracking.

Our family has previously purchased plants from this company with great satisfaction, but this time they really let us down.
