BE AWARE

BE AWARE ! Absolutely the worst, at least in Scotland. Booking done months in advance . For starters there were unable to change my date when I asked with plenty of time in advance , they only replied a day before with a " sorry too late for changes " So I continued as planned only to find out ( by chance, they didn't even emailed me to say !) that not only the van I asked for wasn't available but they have changed the day for a day later . SO I requested a cancellation as the terms of the contract had been broken by indie campers, they finally agreed and were going to refund me the money . It has ben 1 month now and I haven't see any refund .

Without question the worst customer service ever experienced

Without question the worst customer service I've ever experienced.

The campervan I collected in Sicily was dirty, poorly maintained and clearly not fit for purpose. It had multiple faults from the moment I picked it up, including tyre pressure warnings, broken fittings, missing equipment and a pop-top roof that was almost impossible to operate.

The most serious issue came when a tyre failed on the highway. Despite repeatedly contacting Indie Campers for roadside assistance, I was left stranded with little support and had to rely on others to get back on the road safely.

What made the experience even worse was the customer service. Over several days I dealt with more than 15 different agents and chatbots, constantly repeating the same information because no one seemed to have access to previous conversations. I was repeatedly told my case had been "escalated" or that someone was "checking with the depot", yet promised updates rarely came. There was no ownership, no continuity and no urgency, even when safety was involved.

A holiday that should have been relaxing became dominated by hours spent chasing support, sending photos and videos, and waiting for responses that never arrived.

I've rented campervans in several countries before and understand that mechanical issues can happen. What isn't acceptable is a company whose customer service completely falls apart when something does go wrong.

I cannot recommend Indie Campers based on my experience.

I booked through Indie Campers.. horrible experience

I booked through Indie Campers but the motorhome was with JustGO. Everything seemed okay until collection day. I had booked a 3pm pick up which was confirmed but started to receive email notifications on the day that the facility closed at 1pm. I called Indie campers call centre who confirmed this and at same time was having a mail conversation with Just go pick up location. Indie campers resigned themselves from all responsibility and I in the end managed to convince the location to stay open till 230, which was the earliest I could get there. This meant I could not have full inspection of vehicle and instructions on use and basically had 5 minutes to sign documents etc. so spent next fe hours going through the support information toi ascertain how everything worked. On top of this the gas oven did not work, so food we purchased was redundant and had the expense of having to eat out most nights. I have since then sent 4 emails looking for explanation and compensation which to this point have all been ignored…. Just be careful here.. from my experience these platforms work in a happy flow… as soon as things go wrong there are issues

Staff is friendly but auxiliary battery was damaged

Staff is friendly but the check-in seemed a bit random and took 75min.

The auxiliary battery was damaged and the fridge didn't work properly, after 3 days we threw all food away. The van was poorly cleaned.

the extra warranty excludes many things, I think that is a bit like scamming people.

The checkout was smooth and fast. The motor would require more power. the beds are ok and you have enough space for 3-4 people.

Overall ok but too expensive for none working equipment. they promised a compensation, which is fair.

NIGHTMARE HOLIDAY & EXTORTION

NIGHTMARE HOLIDAY & EXTORTION: Do not rent with Indie Campers (Maia Branch, Portugal)

I am not writing this for revenge, but to protect other families. What was supposed to be a 10-day trip of freedom turned into an absolute nightmare of incompetence, severe health hazards, and, ultimately, a clear extortion attempt. When returning the van, two other couples were complaining about similar issues, proving this is a systemic failure.

1. Fake Reviews & Filth
The service started with a massive delay. The staff member, under the guise of "helping" me with their app, submitted a 5-star review on my behalf right in front of me (this is how they fake their ratings). The van was handed over filthy on the outside, and the fridge smelled unbearably of wine.

2. Unsafe Vehicle
I warned them about a completely flat tire. They promised to check the pressure before I left—a lie. At the first gas station, I found all tires had dangerously low pressure. Also, the clean water tank was missing its cap. Water kept spilling on the highway, and the open tank was exposed to dirt, making the clean water utterly useless.

3. Unusable Bed & No Rest
I specifically rented a pop-up roof model for 4 people. The roof's gas struts were completely broken. Even at 95kg, doing heavy strength training, I had to hang my entire body weight and jump just to close it. We stopped using it for fear of it getting stuck open. Result: 4 people crammed into the bottom bed in unbearable heat. To make it worse, the side door curtain was broken, flooding the van with sunlight at 6:30 AM.

4. Extreme Health Hazard & Zero Autonomy
The chemical toilet was handed to me uncleaned—there were literally feces from previous clients inside. I paid 9€ for chemical tabs they guaranteed were inside, but they were never provided, forcing me to buy a 20€ replacement elsewhere. The grey water tank handle was broken, and I was given false information about the sensors. Terrified that the previous clients' dirty water would overflow into the cabin, we couldn't use the sink or the shower for 10 days. Result: I had to pay for campsites and eat at restaurants every single day for four people, doubling my trip costs.

5. The Final Lie and Extortion Attempt
At check-out, I honestly admitted I accidentally scratched the van. The staff calculated the damage using their official table: 257.78€. I accepted and paid on the spot via my wife's deposit. The staff guaranteed the damage issue was closed and that a separate process would be opened to compensate me for their terrible service.

What did I receive yesterday? A shameful proforma invoice. Instead of my compensation, they ignored our in-person agreement, inflated the scratch damage to nearly 400€, refused to refund the extras I paid for but never got (gas bottle and tabs), and are now trying to extort an additional 141.22€ from my credit card without authorization.

I have photos and videos of everything. You can see all the visual proof on my YouTube channel and social media (search for Tuga na Cozinha). Do not let them play with you. Run away from this company.

Booking cancelled due to their own…

Booking cancelled due to their own payment system error — no response from customer service
I booked a van rental with Indie Campers (booking ref. JE0P7P) and paid the deposit. When the balance payment was attempted, it failed due to an error on their payment system. I received their notification email and tried to pay myself, but was blocked by a system error message on their end. I replied by email explaining this — and instead of resolving it, they cancelled my reservation.
I contacted customer service this morning by email, live chat, and WhatsApp. On chat and WhatsApp, only a bot responds saying an agent will follow up — no human has actually replied yet. I have received no reply by email either.
I am fully ready to pay the outstanding balance immediately. This cancellation was caused entirely by a technical failure on their side, not by me, and I am still waiting for a resolution.
I would strongly caution anyone considering this company to be prepared for unresponsive support if anything goes wrong with payment processing.
