Don’t buy this insurance. It is only five-star till you file a claim and become a nightmare!!

I have purchased an annual icarhireinsurance policy in June 2021 for my trip. Unfortunately, during the trip, the windscreen of my rented car got scratched. I have promptly called the icarhireinsurance emergency phone line. They advised me to settle the damage with the car rental and file a formal claim, once I am back in the UK.

The car rental company charged me the full price of the windscreen replacement which cost approx. 700 Euros. I paid this cost of damage. On my return on 4th July 2021, I filed a claim to Halo Zurich Ref# 6529338.

I have received an automated acknowledgement email stating that they will contact me within 5 days. But nothing happened till 15th October 2021.

During this period, I have tried to reach their customer service:

1. via phone, but unable to get hold of any agent. As the line was playing an automated message that we are short of staff due to COVID etc.
2. via email, but no response whatsoever at all. It seems that they have completely ignored all my correspondence.

Then on 15th October 2021, I have managed to get hold of a customer service agent (Halo Zurich) via phone. I expressed my concerns about my claim and enquired about the reason for the delay. She said that they have received all the required documentation on my case and ensured me that within a week, your case handler will contact you. But again, nobody contacted me. This is a very annoying and unacceptable response from the insurance company that claims to provide five-star service.

Since I didn’t hear anything back from them and was unable to find any other way to reach out. In late October, I have decided to file a new claim (Ref# 6565346) on their portal with the same details. As it seems to be the only way to contact them. In response on 26th October, they contacted me and asked me for additional documents and cancelled my initiated claim. I reminded them via email that I already provided all the requested documents even before! But they tend to deny it.

However, to avoid any delays, I send them all the documentation again. The following are the people that have been dealing with my claim from Halo Zurich:
1. Juliana Bordino
2. Lauren Deller
3. Sarah Thomson

So, if someone from Halo Zurich is reading this review, I would like you to do a formal inquiry why these people are not doing their job right and failing to provide the services to the customers?

In a nutshell, after five months of wasting my time trying to chase them, wasting my money in phone calls, days full of stress, here I am still waiting for my claim to be processed and settled. It is frustrating that icarhireinsurance, who claimed to be five-star insurance company, has failed to provide the service, which they had charged me for. It is completely unacceptable.

So, my advice is if you don’t want to end up in the same situation, better look for other insurance policies.

Terrible Service

Having had to put in a claim for a car hire tyre with Green Motion I'm still no clearer where I am with the claim.

The website for the claim is terrible. You go through the hoops putting in all the information and then when you press submit, if the uploaded files are bigger than 50mb it simply clears the entire document and you have to start again.

Okay, it does say keep the files less than 50MB but that's not much when you have to upload loads of evidence. At the very least it should simply state the file size is too large not clear the entire form.

If you do get it uploaded eventually you may get a response. It's hard to know what the status is because it seems to upload but then says 'Form Not Submitted' and yet seems to be in the system.

I managed to get a response and of course they wanted loads of information extra including proof I've paid my credit card which in my case as it's done automatically would be about ten days after the claim was submitted.

And of course by time I got proof, the claim had been cancelled.

So I started the process again with the same pain and anguish as before.

I cannot believe the site is this bad accidentally. I'm quite sure that by auto-clearing your form, it will inevitably lose some people trying to make a claim.

Claims portal not reliable

I have been 2 consecutive years with iCarhireinsurance.ie

First year, scratched a front bumper and made a claim, they paid up.

Second year, similar incident in Lanzarote, but the claim is still for review. They use a Claims portal from Halo Zurich, and they have been ignoring my claim for more than a month already. Still showing "in progress".

Tried sending e-mails, no joy.

Would not recommend...

Very satisfied with halo car hire insurance

I had to make a claim for a puncture in a Sixt hire car whilst on holiday in Portugal. Although the cost was extortionate as they charged 380 euros for a punctured tyre (daylight robbery), after supplying the necessary documentation and explaining the circumstances for the extortionate cost of repair, they paid me in full. They were efficient and courteous, unlike Sixt. I will have no qualms about using this insurance company again in the future.

Stay away.

Non stop requests for documents that have been provided multiple times. Each request is responded to on my side within minutes, but takes about a week for them to then respond back.

Their tactics are very obvious - delay, delay, delay hoping that you will eventually go away.

Will never buy from icarhireinsurance.com again.

There is no point in having insurance if Halo are involved as they will not pay out!

Despite multiple interactions with icarhireinsurance and Halo/Broadspire customer services, my very simple claim has been outstanding for two months. There are ever more obscure reasons why it hasn't been settled which are clearly just to avoid paying out.

I have lodged a formal complaint with both icarhireinsurance and Halo - now 3 weeks in - and plan to report to FCA and Ombudsman if not resolved within the standard eight week time.

Appalling cheats

Appalling cheats. If there was an option of no stars I'd would have given it to them. They are complete cheats and should not be in business. Firstly, they 'lost' my emails, then said I was too late to claim, then asked me for a record of my contract with the car company after I'd already sent it to them, then finally they wanted an engineer's report which is not part of the documentation they initially listed. They basically break the law and get away with it. They take your money under false pretences and then refuse to pay. They should be jailed for what they do...causing stress and criminally cheating people out of their money. Do not deal with them.

DON'T TRUST THIS COMPANY

DON'T TRUST THIS COMPANY. THEY WILL NOT PAY YOUR INSURANCE CLAIM. First Halo/Carehire asked for a receipt and the damage estimate for my rental car. I sent in all the information they requested. Their reply was that they wouldn't be able to help me because I hadn't submitted my initial contract (which they had not asked for). I gathered from the tone of the reply that they had no intention of covering the claim. I next supplied them with the original contract. Surprise, they still didn't want to cover the claim.

Requested a claim

In my case, I requested a claim and nobody answered in 4 weeks, then they ask to send one more document and afterwards I got money. In total it takes 2 months.

AVOID icarinsurance.com

Excess insurance with icarinsurance.com - claim goes with Halo.
They have been stalling for 2 months and do not respond to emails.
They asked for further documents, that they had already received.

Terrible process so far.

Next step is a formal complaint prior to contacting the Financial Ombudsman.

Utterly appalling

Utterly appalling. I bought collision damage waiver insurance through this company via iCarhireinsurance and had cause to claim. Claims are through Halo Insurance Services online; the online service would not accept scanned documents. I then found myself in the now traditional dance of death with call handlers presumably trained to add as much attritional friction to the clams process in an effort to wear claimants out and put them off claiming. Several telephone calls over a period of a month resulted in me sending multiple e-mails to different e-mail addresses, none of which were even acknowledged, let alone resulted in the claim processed. I'm now waiting for a claim form to be sent to me by post. iCarhireinsurance also get the crap review because my contract was originally with them.

Just in the process of making a…

Just in the process of making a complaint to the Insurance Ombudsman about this company - very bad practice and major concerns on their professionalism and whether I will receive my insurance claim back for a simple excess claim.

Had used iclaiminsurance for a number of years - no issue - before I had to make a claim. While it looks easy, its given over to a third party claims department which has a terrible website and service and looks like a scam service. Halo Insurance are the third party provider.

After uploading all the documents (very difficult on an archaic site - only allows specific formats and a very low data size) I was given an automated response someone would be in contact after 48 hours - this was for an incident on the 7th of October and have now had to contact iclaiminsurance and Zurich over a dozen times before I received contact from Halo.

Finally received an response 8/11/2018 and received a notification that my claim was been acknowledged, but required additional documentation - all of which I had already uploaded as well as sent directly to the claims advisor and the generic email provided on the automatic notification. Requested an email of receipt and received no response, no acknowledgement of receiving documents or response to any emails. Still very concerned that this is a scam and will not pay out.

Now well over a month and no further forward at all on reclaiming the excess charges. Specifically asked for a full breakdown and repair report, but Budget the car hire rental will not give one because it was a minor scratch and they are not going to put it in for repairs - putting in me the terrible position of doing everything right but both the rental company and now the third party insurance company are failing to respond, acknowledge documents or communicate.

Over 1200 pound after a minor scratch and no further on - making sure my complaint goes to the Ombudsman so other people do not have to go through these processes again.

AVOID AVOID AVOID

Update 28 November

Still no response or payment from Halo or iCarHireInsurance. Now over two months since making the claim. Does not respond to messages or phone calls - complete amateur scam outfit.

Excellent customer service .

Took out a policy for the excess on car hire .
Consequently had a claim. Which was handled courteously, efficiently and quickly , it’s only when one has a claim that a company can be judged and as this is the first time we have had a claim like this we were very pleasantly surprised .
Well Done .
