I have been with HostMySite for over 20…

I have been with HostMySite for over 20 years. they used to have decent customer service. In the past year, this has utterly failed. I cannot sent e-mail to anyone with many of the most common e-mails - like gmail, yahoo, etc., because they are not updating the security certificates. In the past, this has been fixed in a day or so. It has been months. No fix in sight.

Done with HostMySite

I had been an HMS user for over 20 years. Due to long-overdue cost-cutting measures, I found that my subscription for my unused ColdFusion server was about to renew ($350+), and canceled it. Well, because I had done this 5 days before renewal and not TEN days, they refused to give my money back. And because I've canceled, my site was gone. Insult to injury, they told me I was DUE a refund, but instead of following up with a "whups, we're not gonna do that," they left it for me to try to chase down my non-existent refund.

The renewal notice from HMS said nothing about the 10 day requirement, but it is in the fine print if you dig far enough into their website. My appeal to the service rep went nowhere, not even a business credit, which might have kept me as a customer.

Service-wise, they had been adequate, but I had been experiencing increasing problems with my email services, which I've since resolved simply by going to another hosting service (at a fraction of the cost).

I had 4 domains there, but after that disaster of a phone call I immediately closed them and moved to another hosting provider. Good riddance to HostMySite.

No new servers since 2014!

I recently logged into my wordpress account, and received a message that the version I was using was now officially unsupported. I was using 3.9.40 (I know, but if it ain't broke). I wanted to upgrade to the newest version, 6.1, but was unable to do so, since my server only had PHP 5.6, released in 2014. When I inquired about moving to a new server, they told me they didn't have any. I repeated myself because surely that can't be true. You're a webhost that doesn't upgrade your servers? They assured me they understood and indeed, they had no newer servers onto which I could move, but they had a partner company they could put me in touch with. No thank you. I'll find a new hew host then.

In preparation for the move, I asked what my temp domain was, so I could access all my content while DNS was propagating to the new server. 8 hours after my email I received a response where they told me they did not provide one. I told them that is impossible, since the cheap linux hosting plans were name based, and only worked when a domain name was pointed at them and I got one when I signed up, but it had been 8 years and I no longer recalled it, and they used to provide a shared subdomain. I responded back immediately that that must not be correct, and then a full two weeks later they respond with "Apologies for the late response, but it's still no, we don't do that". At that point I had already canceled 10 days prior and it was a moot point.

They used to have awesome chat and phone support that would always get you some type of response in under 4 hours by email, and you could reach a knowledge tech on the phone on the first ring. That is clearly no longer the case and I would avoid like the plague unless you need a legacy server. However, when I called to cancel, the cancellation team was very prompt and had that polish I remember the support team used to have, and that's a damn shame. I'm sure it's because they see the most action.

This is the worst hosting and website…

This is the worst hosting and website company. Avoid at all costs. They have no proper support service in the US or anywhere else on the planet. The people in Eastern Europe provide very variable support services. Sometimes it is clear they do not want to help. They also sometimes find it difficult to understand English.

Lying f'ng scum

The f'ng assh*les sold me a Windows based plan, the after they got my money, they said, "Oh sorry we don't do Windows anymore." Now I can't move my domain for 60 days and my company email is down until December. They wasted $1000 of my time. F these assh*les.

Do not sign up with this company

Do not sign up with this company! 10 years ago they were awesome. Now their tech support is little more than voicemail and the response is always "It's been escalated" and "we're working on it.' Had a simple ticket in for a week and despite multiple calls and emails no one will give me a response. Our dog rescue organization has been shut down for a week (and still ongoing) because we can't get an answer. Today I was assured that a manager would call me back in 30 minutes and here I am two hours later still waiting.

Time to give up on nostalgia and admit they've reached rock bottom.

Been a HMS customer for just over 15…

Been a HMS customer for just over 15 years and during that time I experienced a steady decline in their customer service and general decline in their services as a whole.

Their customer service is outsourced to individuals who lack empathy and any ability to understand customer needs, let alone put themselves in their customers shoes to find workable solutions to their problems.

Getting a solution to a problem results in the reps finding a way to get out of addressing the actual problem, mostly by asking question after question, which is fine at first, until the result is always, you could always buy ( insert new feature they have taken away over the years ), which sadly after 15 years has reached it's limit for me personally.

Being unable to update a server certificate after submitting an initial request then blocking access to servers, or blocking FTP access or other standard services offered on other platforms for less money was the last straw. FTP'ing on their shared services results in a failed certificate warning every time yet they insist it's valid. Unfortunately their support failed to understand that customers do not want to be prompted for each file transfer that the cert is invalid, and that saying you need to buy an individual server account to get around this is unacceptable. Update the local certificate on your shared server, it's that simple in 2020.

Their control panel software is very buggy and requires having to submit tickets in for most tasks, including file archiving or updating PHP versions or .htaccess files. Yet they never update or fix these issues, even after years of repeated ticket submission.

Lastly, and this may big a big one for some, they use pear mail now for email submission via a website, versus php mail, and they do change their requirements often so you may not get any email correspondence for days or longer unless you stay on top of this.

In closing their spam filter for email is also lacking. Often creating a new email account for a domain results in your inbox being flooded the next day with spam, even though you never gave the address out to anyone. Their response is of course another paid spam filter, which sadly isn't much better than their initial offering and results in emails being mislabeled as spam.

There are other more reliable and competent hosting providers out there, sadly I just was hoping after 15 years that HMS would be going in a better direction but they are not and it's time for me to say goodbye. YMMV.

The absolute worst hosting company

The absolute worst hosting company. Support is useless and just plain pathetic. They have no idea what they are doing. I no longer have access to FTP. I have to rely on them to do it. They do not respond to support emails. It has been days now since I contacted them several times by email and phone calls. Still nothing. Bunch of f__ing idots over there. Be warned by mine and other users do not use them. You are just asking for a world of trouble/issues.
