Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Looking at 266 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Many customers frequently receive unexpected parking fines despite making timely payments, displaying valid permits, or following the proper instructions carefully during their stay. Consumers also struggle significantly with the appeal process, noting that valid physical evidence, receipts, and dispute claims are routinely dismissed without proper consideration. However, some people mentioned experiencing frustrating technical difficulties and failures with payment machines when trying to settle parking fees upon arrival. Reviewers additionally felt that the location signage was extremely unclear, hidden in small print, or entirely difficult to notice when entering the car park.

Can't even properly review their parking images

Received a parking penalty notice demanding money for a car that isn't even mine in a town that I have never even visited. The number plate shown in their image is very obviously one letter out from my own, so they have searched and requested my data and sent out a threatening letter to me based on their own admin mistake.

They are issuing parking charges…

They are issuing parking charges stating clear signage on car parks but this is not true. Tesco carpark signage restrictions are in VERY small print at the bottom of the sign. It is NOT against the law to park in parent and child bays ANYWHERE.

Over the Line!!!!

Got a £40 parking fine I am contesting through the door from a company called Horizon for parking in the Tesco Car Park at Hewitts Circus in Cleethorpes just before Christmas for being slightly over the line of the bay and Tesco do nothing to help.

I was on the end of the row and went slightly over on purpose in order to avoid blocking the car parked to the left of me from not being able to gain access back into their vehicle as they had parked right on the line and also so my wife could exit the vehicle with being able to open her door, this was causing no issue on the other side of me as was onto an etched area.

Beware!!! I will no longer use this store whilst my complaint ongoing and now do my shopping at a local competitor.

Money grabbers

Money grabbers. Paid £105 for a weeks parking. Left for food, came back and the car park was full as they are overselling spaces!

Horizon Parking is

Horizon Parking is, in my experience, one of the most aggressive and unreasonable parking enforcement companies operating today.

The way these charges are issued — often for very minor overstays — feels disproportionate and designed to catch ordinary people out. It doesn’t feel like parking management; it feels like a system built to generate profit from technicalities.

The stress this causes should not be underestimated. For many people, receiving a parking charge can create real anxiety, especially during a cost-of-living crisis when households are already under pressure.

What’s most frustrating is that companies like this continue to operate freely, despite widespread public criticism of private parking practices. There needs to be stronger oversight and fairer regulation to protect everyday motorists from what feels like excessive enforcement.

This approach damages trust, creates resentment, and leaves people feeling powerless.

In my view, serious reform of the private parking industry is long overdue.

Scamming thieves

Sent 2 parking tickets for a Tesco car park which has a 2 hour time limit, both charges were under the 2 hour limit and company proceeded to send letters to the wrong address multiple times as I was in the process of moving house. I informed them of the wrong address and paid both off after emails were proving to get nowhere and have just received another letter (still to the wrong address mind you) that one has been handed to debt recovery, big farce and will not accept appeals as over time limit on their website, which is no fault of my own as letters have never come to the address I am currently living at. I am lucky enough to have been told about these letters, who knows what would have happened if I hadn't been.

Paid and stayed in chester (linenhall car park).
Recieved a fine stating I had over stayed.
Appealed and provided proof of payment and proof I hadn't over stayed.
Horizon tell me I entered my registration incorrectly, I disputed this and looking on trust pilot alot of people have the same problem, the registration horizons system registered to my vehicle was a 2 digit format and not even a road legal registration at that, clearly a system error on their behalf.

Horizon have not offered to return my funds despite myself linking my vehicle to the payment, instead they want a £15 admin fee.

Seems to be a very common theme here with horizon.
I have tried appealing twice as they can't seem to accept it was actually paid.

Should be named Ronnie Biggs

Used there car park at The Moat House in Tamworth. Paid £2 cash for 4 hrs of parking. Left after only 45 mins. Just got a fine through the post showing camera footage of my vehicle entering & exiting. Even though you have to enter your registration on the machine, they say I have no proof of payment. Obviously I can’t retrieve this information and didn’t keep the parking ticket, even though it was displayed correctly for the whole period I was parked. Appealed their fine, but rejected due to not having any photo evidence of ticket. Absolute scammers, I will fight this in court if I have to. If you accept cash as payment, you should have a wardens proof no ticket was displayed correctly and notice attached to vehicle. In this situation you’d obviously keep your ticket as proof of payment.

Awful parking company

Awful parking company. The machine said "nothing to pay" and it was not possible to pay the £1.20 parking charge. So instead I get a £51 fine and they refuse my appeal. I will avoid their carparks from now on.

Can’t put zero stars

Can’t put zero stars, I’m a disabled user who received a letter 3 weeks after I parked in a free disabled parking space. I had no chance of following their process of appeal in their timeframe without having to pay 100 pounds instead of 60 if I paid early, this is obviously how they roll a no numbers to call either. So angry, they only supplied grainy photos of my car reg, funny how they missed my disabled badge.

My wife is disabled with a blue badge

My wife is disabled with a blue badge. We went to Tesco Madely to park. No disability spaces were available. We parked on a normal parking bay having long walk to the store. We walked down between the disability bays. We observed two vehicles parked without a blue badge. After shopping we returned and the two offending cars had left, and were replaced by three other vehicles which included a large van. I approached the security and was informed that they would be fined. This is a lie because of the amount of vehicles abusing the system. This was the Tesco store at Telford Madely at around 1430hrs. Obviously you are not monitored this site.🥴.

Avoid

Had penalty cancelled as could prove that I paid but charged a £15 admin fee for keying a wrong letter of my reg.
£15 for a small human error… what an easy way to extort money from people.
I’m sure by taking the old system of barriers & tokens away, this company will be coining it in from people making genuine mistakes.

Pure greed.

Fined me for parking twice at a travelodge, their signs were obscured by large vehicles either side of the door, I validated my parking after I saw workmen putting up the signs on lampposts in front of where I was parked, but it was too late. Fined me twice and now going to court. This company is a disgrace.

Falsely accused me of breaching the contract without evidence.

I used their services to park a big campervan.
While I was outside of the country for about a month, I got a 1 day termination email from them stating that I'm sleeping in the campervan...
Besides the fact that if some homeless person broke into the car they should have provided security, but they had no evidence obviously.
Employees were too stupid to understand their own business or to give me any explanation, I think they contracted YourParkingSpace for part of the service, or the other way around.

Refuse to acknowledge paid parking ticket as proof for payment.

Received a fine for non payment but have the physical ticket showing the cars vrn and time details which proves we paid. Sent this to appeal and inc bank statement showing payment. They refuse the appeal and say they don’t have evidence of payment. Whether they have evidence on their system isn’t our problem. We are providing two forms of irrefutable evidence. They’ve since sent debt collection letters and occasionally called too. Their staff are abhorrent. I explain we have proof and they talk to you like a villain. I’ve since asked them to take the matter to court so we can provide our evidence to a judge but that’s not happened either. I get the impression these fines are sent out on mass on the basis that most uk public won’t have the tickets still and will pay out of duress. What sort of company refuses to accept a photo of their own issues parking ticket showing payment for a given car registration and continues to hassle for payment of their fine. Matters like this should be treated as corporate crime and individuals accountable should be criminally charged too. My view is this is tantamount to extortion.

I received an unjust and unfair parking…

I received an unjust and unfair parking ticket from Horizon at Exe Bridges in Exeter on Friday 3rd October in the afternoon.
The car park was gridlocked so exiting took over 30 minutes. Anyone who knows this car park will acknowledge that the entry/exit system with traffic a double set of traffic lights on exit is chaotic.
Horizon have failed to respond by telephone or email addressing the facts that I had raised. I requested for CCTV to be looked at of the situation in their car park and they have advised they have none, have no access to CCTV and only have entry & exit cameras.
A new increased fine of £100 has now been sent through as my appeal has been rejected.

Poor signage at Uttoxeter Waterbridge.

Poor signage at Uttoxeter Waterbridge.
I can't afford to pay such a high price for an oversight. I stopped for a break in really poor weather with freezing conditions and icy roads.
Made me overdrawn with my bank and triggered a period of low mood and unhappiness.
