The Nook Willowbank Seathwaite Rd Ambleside Holiday Cottages do not use this company

This is the second time this year I have been let down by this company. I had to threaten Court Action for the holiday in Cornwall before we reached a refund agreement. This holiday has not been much better the Nook Willowbank Seathwaite Rd Ambleside. There have been numerous complaints about the bed the owners response was to buy a mattress topper and the linen did not fit. I had already flagged this with them however they do not respond. The ice box was full of ice and could not be used. The TV is old school and very limited. Happy to take your money but not interested in feedback. Will not be using them again

My Wife dog and myself stayed at Trem Y Fam Llanfairfechan North Wales. It’s a great place to stay it’s a very comfortable property, the log burner puts out a lot of heat, a nice touch from Sharon the owner was the Welsh cakes, milk in fridge and fresh flowers, very comfortable large bed. Definitely consider staying again perfect for a couple very clean. Out of front door up steps and across road to Prom and sea front thank you Shaon

Not interested in our complaint re a property we rented through them.

In June last we booked through Holiday Cottages.com (HC) an expensive dog friendly lodge in Talybont, Snowdonia. It was dreadful. Full of flies as we arrived, vey dirty, VERY poorly furnished clearly from a Car Boot/Jumble sale. Hourly local train just 18’ away from kitchen window!, 13 one day!, unmentioned on the ‘need to know’ info! And so so much more! HC.com refused to publish my review or help in any way, except giving us the email of the owners. I wrote a suitable one star review but they refused to publish it, saying as I was in dispute with the owners they could not publish! ? ! I hadn’t even approached the owners at this point! We booked through HC.com paid our money to them BUT they wriggled out of responsibility saying our Contract was with the owners. We emailed the owners three times they have NEVER replied. We’d booked through HC.com many times without issue but this is the last time. Be prepared if things go wrong, you’re on your own. Dreadful experience all round. We left early it was SO bad.

Our booked cottage was run down and…

Our booked cottage was run down and grotty. Numerous issues from grime to crumbling garden steps , broken blinds, grotty teatowels, etc etc.
I complained, very politely, and they sent me back a reply from the owner basically saying much of what I raised was 'due to ge sorted' but they didn't appreciate my comments and then accused me of stealing the grotty bedding!
The agent just said nothing they could do. It was very distressing and I'm still angry. This is a useless company, they have zero customer service unless it's to take your money and they are not at all interested in property issues. AVOID

The Cottage on the Corner

The Cottage on the Corner, Warkworth, Northumberland.

Booked this cottage through Holiday Cottages.com and stayed for a week in September.
First impressions were good but soon realised that the property was cold and uncomfortable.
I have enclosed the review I wanted to put on Holiday Cottages site as to not repeat the whole sorry tale.
We registered a complaint and was assured it would be investigated fairly.
However without chasing for a result we would have heard nothing back.
One excuse after another followed before they finally stated that the owners had dealt with the issue at the time and the option to place a review had expired after seven days from vacating the property.
It is clear that only positive reviews go on the site so 5 stars means absolutely nothing!
So disappointed with the owners of the property and also Holiday Cottages for their obvious stand in not wanting to upset the goose that lays their golden eggs and not giving a monkey’s if their paying customers are fairly treated or not.

The Review:

I don’t think that expecting to be warm and comfortable is too much to ask from your holiday cottage but we got neither on our recent trip to The Cottage On The Corner.
The owners rule your stay with a rod of iron, with rules for everything, even rules about the rules!
You are most definitely not allowed to touch the heating system!
We unfortunately arrived in fog and we sadly had to endure rain and unseasonable cold weather, even for September, for most of our stay.
The cottage was cold and uncomfortable for the duration apart from the lounge which was heated by a wood burning fire but this heat did not extend to the rest of the house.
Each room has at least one radiator but not all were even programmed to come on at all and were locked.
One clear rule is not to try and adjust the controls for the heating.
This is well documented throughout the property.
The bathroom and the second bedroom were switched off and were uninhabitable as a result.
The dining room was so cold that we had to eat in the lounge, despite two radiators being present, but one was not even connected to the power supply.
The radiators that were powered were programmed to come on early in the morning for 2 hours and in the evening for 2 hours but no account was taken of our lifestyle or what times, if they really have to be restricted, would benefit the guests.
Our first attempt to rectify this problem brought the owner to the property and he reconnected the radiator in the dining room but turned off the previously working one.
He also said that he had turned on the radiators in the bedroom, bathroom and landing so we could use them but he had not!
They remained lifeless and locked.
He did admit though to deliberately deactivating those particular units because there were only two guests and he assumed we wouldn’t need the second bedroom nor the bathroom!
Two further attempts to contact the owners were unanswered and we were left bewildered until the day of departure.
I know the price of utilities are extortionate
but we paid the best part of £800 for our holiday and think we have been poorly treated and short changed.
A complaint to Holiday Cottages also remained unanswered until when pressured the owners stated that our concerns had been addressed at the time.
The owners should stick to farming. Clearly the hospitality business is a tractor ride too far.

When everything is going well?

When everything is going well, all is fine, but don't ever end up having an issue or problem and expecting them to deal with it in a professional manner. During the holiday, no one would assist, and when I wrote to them on numerous occasions via email and using their online portal and wrote to Head Office still no satisfaction. Very unprofessional organisation, their marketing is glossy, the product mostly is okay but as I say don't expect anything if you've got issues. They take your money and run.

Booked with holiday cottages for a week away New Forest

Booked with holiday cottages for a place called Jobbers Retreat New Forest week costing £952 hot tub. Sent form through for review I completed the one that only owner would see then what gen pub should see they didn’t print. This place had 54 5* no one mentioned the ridiculous noise from the road it was horrendous causing us to escape daily not a holiday at all. Nothing from Holiday Cottages not even a sorry to hear of your experience. I will not be booking in the future as have no trust in these reviews on their system this feels so disingenuous of all the reviews.

Cattis Side Cottage-Peak District via Holiday Cottage

We stayed at Cattis Side Cottage in the Peak District in May. Standards have definitely dropped. Property full of black mould and owners made it sound like it should be acceptable. Holiday Cottage washed their hands saying it’s between the owners and us when we asked for compensation. Then the owners started making up ridiculous accusations such as broken fridge, broken tiles and broken stone bench!! Good thing we took a video of the property before we left. Absolutely joke! Will never book again via Holiday Cottage.

Inaccurate reviews

All reviews for Fox Corner at Little Petherick described this cottage as immaculate. However all rooms in the cottage had a problem with black mould including the shower cubicle in the bathroom where tiles, grout and mastic had a problem with mould. There were other issues such as dirty garden chairs and table covered in snails. Interior paintwork on doors and windows was grubby.
The cottage just needed some TLC and had clearly not had a Spring Clean to make it ready for the holiday season!

Company is just an agent like AirBNB - Do not use them.

Company is just an agent like AirBNB. They don't check quality or cleanliness of properties like a local agency does. Act in the best interest of the property owners not the renters. Had terrible experience of filthy property we rented in Croyde - The Priory Stables. Photos looked wonderful and reviews on website were all positive but reality was a very tired property, which was filthy and had mould in numerous places. Arrived late Saturday night and were out before 9am the following morning with everyone notified. I have spent hours on phone calls to them, sent loads of info and photos, then had to resend all info to their complaints team. All the work is put on the holiday maker and no local agents to assist at all. Offered a partial refund or given the option to deal with the property owner directly. What a joke.

I wrote a review about a cottage we…

I wrote a review about a cottage we stayed at in Nefyn. There were health and safety issues such as the stairs had bare boards and no handrail. The shower had nothing to hold yourself up again no grab rail. The garden had very slippy steep open steps leading up to the garden. Holiday cottages.com didn’t post my review. If I’d read a review like mine I wouldn’t had hired that cottage as it was totally unsafe for my husband who has only 20% vision and myself with dodgy knees. I wrote to Holidaycottages.com several times. They promised to investigate and get back to me but haven’t even though I’ve chased them. I believe they only print the good reviews. It was a horrible holiday because of the issues mentioned. We approached the stairs with trepidation. We were glad to get home to carpeted and safe stairs.

Poor Insurance promoted by holidaycottages.com

Staff are friendly and helpful when making enquires about booking cottages, however I want to warn you about the insurance company they promote, which is promoted as Awaze.co.uk, but if you need to make a claim it goes through to Allianz Assistance.
Sadly I had to cancel my holiday because my mum passed away and I had planned the holiday with her. I was told I had to pay the remainder of the deposit and I could then claim it from the insurance company. The telephone number I was given advised there were high volume calls... I was waiting for 1 hour 30 minutes then got cut off! I decided to make an online claim, to be told I would need to ask Mum's GP to complete a Medical Certificate and that I would have to pay for this. I furnished Allianz with the completed certificate and sent it via the email they had contacted me on, but did not receive a confirmation of receipt of my email despite me asking for this. They did not answer any of my emails, in the end I spent another hour waiting for them to answer.
It wasn't really worth the effort for what I got back as there was also a £50 excess.
My advise is to shop around for your insurance. My experience in the past in the course of my work is that insurance companies have asked permission to contact the patient's GP directly which would mean the customer does not have to pay for the Medical Certificate. I would not use Allianz in the future.
Cottages.com were unhelpful when I was struggling to contact Allianz.
