Horrible Incompetent Service-they are obsessed with phone numbers global corporations have specialized ticketing system and they prefer to be contacted via EMAIL NOT phone number. On their website the email addresses cannot be added . The people that are doing the screening are an absolute disaster, everything takes weeks and weeks and weeks i don't get it why. They are so unprofessional i never seen such a thing, they refuse to give updates , also the customer service-chat service is a joke as well.

Just like the other reviews - absolute disgrace of a company. Going on 10+ days of them not being able to complete a simple MVR check. I went to my state's DMV website and was able to get a hold of my entire record in 2 seconds. Multiple calls and chats with these incompetent people have gotten me nowhere. All they keep saying is that there is a "process" they have to follow and they will have an update for me in 6 business days. Completely unacceptable. Stay far, far away from this company!!!

I would rate it zero if i could. They have played me around, and asked for unreasonable and unattainable information, instead of actually doing their JOB! and reaching out to the contacts provided for my background check. They have put me in a very vulnerable situation, with my start date closely approaching. It is absolute madness that big corporations trust such incompetent companies to vet their employees. Honestly if you receive a job offer which uses HireRight for their checks RUN FOR THE HILLS!.
They have no sense of remorse or accountability that they are responsible for peoples livelihood and income.
worst experience of my life. absolute nightmare.

I'm not sure if they're even reviewing my files. I submitted all of the tax documents they're looking for, and provided them with contact information for my previous employers.
I know that they have not reached out to my employer and are now asking for additional documentation.

Because of HireRight, my start date for a job I had applied for was postponed by at least two months. Their process was painfully slow and frustrating. While others who applied after me were able to start earlier, I was stuck waiting due to unnecessary delays.
Initially, I was supposed to receive an email requesting documents, but that never happened. Instead, I had to manually check their platform to upload documents. Then, they asked for additional documents and even rejected my payslip and redundancy letter—likely because the agent failed to notice my digital signature. I ended up re-uploading information directly from the REVENUE system, which should have been unnecessary.
Once that was finally approved, there were further delays. They requested my university contact information again, despite me already having provided it in the initial form. Worse, they didn’t notify me by email or message, forcing me to resubmit the same details. By the time everything was sorted, my start date had already been postponed.
For the sake of other businesses, HireRight should seriously reconsider their operations. Their inefficiency is sabotaging people who are genuinely interested in working.
If you have a strong background or advanced qualifications, be cautious. It seems their process might be quicker for simpler profiles, but those with more details to verify can face significant delays.
If I could, I would give 0 stars to this company. It’s surprising they are still in business despite the overwhelming number of bad reviews. You never think this could happen to you, but unfortunately, this has been my experience with them.

Hire right is not a good background check company, they take too long, I had been back ground check with other company it only takes two days max 5 days but with hire right its been 10 days and my start date is fast approaching and I might not be able to start my new job just like some of these people because of hire right. Hire right just collect data and will make you do your own background check for them.Imagine the safety of your information in the hand of an incompetent company. I am monitoring my info because I do not trust them. These reviews can be used for a case because they are affecting people lives by their incompetence.

As part of the onboarding process, Hire Right is performing my background check, which is essentially very easy: one employer, one degree, two residences. I ended up doing the job for them, b/c their investigators documented three lousy attempts at getting in touch with my US-based former employer; i.e. they contacted them over Christmas time (Dec 23 and 24), when folks are typically on vacation, and then 24 hrs later they documented the source could not be verified... what level of common sense is needed to realize the response time over Christmas won't be 24 hrs?! I ended up having to do the job for them and dig through all my records with IRS and such to get them transcripts dating back to 2013... Secondly, they could not verify my overseas education, again over Christmas time, so I had to submit a copy of my degree, doing, yet again, their job... what's even more frustrating is that they are not even contacting me to ask for documentation, although I have established both text and email as ways to get in touch with me; they are reaching out to the contracting agency, while they document in their audit trail they had asked me for the things they "need", but these are all lies! Luckily, the contact lady at the contract agency is very understanding and keeps me abreast of all of the Hire Right requests... we'll see how this ends, but I am already pro-actively putting all the evidence together to support my case if need be. As other reviewers stated, if this company is legit, there should not be a need for W2s and other PII to support the background check process. The check should be done based on my information inputs (dates, places, etc) and not by me uploading scans into their system.
Companies, please do not hire this organization to support the onboarding of your candidates. They are lazy, lack common sense, and lack the ability to perform job-relevant tasks. In a job market where qualified candidates are struggling to find a job, seeing the level of incompetence encountered with Hire Right is simply disheartening.

I made the CRUCIAL mistake of putting 2 unpaid internships on my background check. When they couldn't reach my managers, they asked me for W2's like how uninformed can a company be. It is unpaid there aren't any W2's or paystubs. They won't take any other documents even though I have signed NDA's and internship agreements. I even have one of the old GitHub repos on my computer! I gave them a second set of contact points and had to email my hiring manager letting them know I had plenty of ways to verify my internships but HireRight was being a pain and wouldn't take anything that wasn't a tax document or active phone call. Now I have to wait and see what my manager says. I've already heard that this company has cost people their jobs and I would be fuming if the same happened to me. Yeah yeah HireRight doesn't make the final choice but providing a bogus report that can't verify 2 things sure does make an impact. Thankfully I haven't had to provide any more information for my education or third IT job that I submitted.

Reported inaccurate AND outdated information on my background check to an employer, which resulted in the employer revoking my job offer. I even provided proof that the information HireRight provided was inaccurate... but the employer in question was in fintech and decided it was too much of a liability, I guess? I literally moved across the country for that job, and wasn't notified of any of this until 5 days before my start date... so I was stranded in a new city with no family or friends, left to figure it out myself. The job was supposed to be my first job as a software developer... but the whole experience was so traumatic, I never ended up landing another junior developer job like that again. I gave up pursuing software engineering entirely. I literally cannot express the negative impact HireRight made on my life. I still suffer those consequences to this day, as the salary trajectory of my life was altered dramatically as well. This is an EVIL company that should be shut down. I'm disgusted that they're still operational. Anytime a company contracts through HireRight for their background checks, I don't even bother applying. They nearly ruined my f***ing life with their careless work, and I will forever regret not pursuing a lawsuit against them more aggressively (I was so defeated and depressed when it all happened that I just didn't have the energy to pursue it). STAY AWAY FROM THIS EVIL COMPANY

This company is just collecting your personal information. I have never had a background check performed on myself where I had to provide all of the information for them to check. Currently in the process of a background check that so far, has been ongoing for 2 weeks. I have had to provide multiple W-2s from multiple employers. And after all of that, they requested a paystub from the same company! It just seems a little off for a company that does background checks to not be able to verify any information unless you give them all of your personal tax forms. Its sketchy!!! I really am worried about the possibility of identity theft!

Waste of time
asked for information they already had. don't do their work themselves, but let you do everything

Reply from HireRight
Quite terrible. They ask for very specific and weird information (such as a utility bill from an address I lived on 3 years ago, even though I can provide the proof of residence). Why I am supposed to submit all this information, is beyond me.

This is the ABSOLUTE WORST background company EVER! I have been unable to start a position i took, which was projected to start Nov 18, the background process began Nov. 5. It took too long to verify my education, which was so simple, I have yet to begin because of some court issues on their end it just keeps getting pushed back for numerous of the stupidest reasons. Its Dec 12, and still pending background. So incompetent and then speak of customer service? Lol what joke, this company is going to be looking forward to a lawsuit. I'm researching as we speak.

This company is awful, I don't know how they are still in business with all these bad reviews. It's been a headache dealing them and I can't wait until it's over. I will tell everyone about this company so they choose not to use them. Y'all are lazy and slow and keep asking for the same thing over and over. You should want to do things different due to having all these bad reviews.

I completed the online form and uploaded the documents last Thursday. Surprisingly, I Iogged in today (3 business days) and the report says passed. I reached out to the recruiter and he confirmed it. I am amazed because I had come here to read the reviews and thought my experience was going to be awful as well.
I live in Europe and they checked my history including that from my country. Hopefully, my contract would be ready in few days. Thank you HireRight for doing a wonderful job!
I would give them zero stars. I'm retired from a 40 year federal government career holding numerous clearances and the their background check is going to take over 5 months for a $16 hour part time job. This is embarrassing and an insult.

Worst company, they are taking so long for my background check. I you will not call them, they will not do any progress for your background check.

Reply from HireRight
Filled all the forms, provided all the documents I always used for previous employments. No updates for weeks. Reached out to their support asking for an update, they said the process was in progress and they needed nothing from me. About 2 months in, they simply said they couldn't verify my identity. Now they want me to re-submit everything again. Pray you don't have to work with these folks, they are absolutely unprofessional.

I am honestly unsure how HireRight is still in operation. More staggering companies using them to do the background work.
I am sure all their staff will fail any basic background check. One of them even told me he was working from home. I asked them you have access to my personal data on a laptop in your room !
He laughed and said yes we all do.
There staff can technically screenshot all my personal/private data and leak it or sell it.
They never answered my questions and put me on hold for 2 month for no reason, until last week I checked with my new employer and they followed up and clear me yesterday.
Extremely incompetent and unprofessional.

Every review you are reading about this entity is true. I have had to deal with them twice. Utter incompetence. Demanded that I provide W-2's from my employer. I explained that there were no W-2's. My business partner and I were owner/operators of our company. We didn't pay ourselves regularly. As money grew, we might take a draw every couple of years. We filed our taxes with a K-1 form as owners. They insisted on the W-2's. I told them that they did not exist. We were K-1 owners who did not give ourselves paychecks. They insisted on the W-2's. After many days and numerous calls (including supervisors), I sent a detailed explanation as to what a K-1 is and had to get my new employer involved. Just hope you never have to deal with them. This second time with them is just as bad.
