Rental Car Nightmare: A Cautionary Tale
Despite low rental prices, this company encountered several issues that ultimately led to a less-than-ideal experience for me.
I had pre-booked an automatic car, but two days before the rental, the company informed me that the vehicle's air conditioning was broken. They offered three options:
Switch to a manual car.
Keep the automatic car without air conditioning.
Receive a refund.
Despite the website indicating that manual cars were cheaper, the price did not change when I opted for either option 1 or 2.
I agreed to switch to a manual car, but upon arrival, I learned that it was not ULEZ-compliant. I questioned why I wasn't informed of this during the booking change, and they claimed I hadn't asked. Despite having explicitly stated my need for a ULEZ-compliant car during the online booking, they only offered to reimburse the ULEZ charge.
While they initially offered to pay the ULEZ charge, they later declined to reimburse the cost when I realized that Heathrow Airport was also within the ULEZ zone.
Had the company handled the situation correctly from the start, reimbursement wouldn't have been necessary. The final cost, including the ULEZ charge, was not as low as advertised.
The only positive aspect of the experience was the straightforward vehicle return process.
A two-star rating seems fair given the issues encountered. I encourage others to carefully consider factors beyond price when choosing a rental car company.
