Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Looking at 152 reviews, most reviewers were unhappy with their experience overall. Many people reported poor service, often finding staff rude, unhelpful, or difficult to engage. A significant concern was the company's treatment of employees, particularly regarding denied time off for personal tragedies. Reviewers also frequently encountered issues with facilities, such as dirty bathrooms, malfunctioning air conditioning, or leaking ceilings. However, some customers noted positive aspects, including friendly and professional staff members. Others appreciated clean, spacious rooms, with effective soundproofing or comfortable temperatures. Conversely, a small portion of people felt dissatisfied with the refusal to accommodate homeless individuals, even when rooms were pre-paid.

No humanity, no empathy, despicable

If you could give less than 1 star I would. This company has no humanity, no empathy and no respect for their employees. They wouldn’t let one of their employees one day off to bury his CHILD. How disgusting can someone be to deny this. Just because this man was a manager does not mean he isn’t entitled to go and say goodbye to his baby girl.
Trust me, nobody wants to go and stay at such a vile and despicable establishment!!! There are far better options out there that have the emotional capacity to care about the death of a child

Holiday inn express Birmingham

Holiday inn express Birmingham. Not allowing a worker to go bury his 4 year old child when requested. If they treat their staff like this it speaks volumes, a 4 year old child that no parent should have to bury to begin with.. pure greed

They don’t care about you!

They don’t care about you, the staff or anyone. They didn’t accept a gentleman in the staff to bury his own 4 year old. Shame on them and shame on you if you support this again!

Dont stay here! They treat the staff so badly! A worker his daughter sadly died and they didn't let him take the day of for her funeral! It's a dad grieving! They even suspended him the same day bcs they didn't want to deal with the grief he had! Never go to this they! If they treat there staff like that idk what more happens there! A grieving dad should be able to go to his own daughters funeral and a week or more for grieving! Like are yall not human!?

Holiday Inn Express Fleet UK.

Holiday Inn Express Fleet UK.
The Hotel is apparently 3 years old. As a disabled senior I found the facilities excellent enabling me to use my wheelchair through most of the hotel, with the added convenience of a wheelchair accessible room, we were very comfortable . The staff are from a bygone era where sevvice is a priority and we found they were all professional, attentive but not intrusive. We will definitely be staying there again. Thank you Bardak and team.

Holiday Inn Express- Alabaster Alabama - HORRIBLE

Holiday Inn Express - Alabaster, AL
Day 1: The Front Desk Clerk KYLE was absolutely HORRIBLE! When I first checked in, she
regaled me with personal information telling me how beautiful everyone thought she was
and that people were intimidated by her beauty.
When I finally got checked in, I went to my room and found numerous swarming Asian
beetles. Went back downstairs and asked for another room. She told me there were no
more rooms and that if I changed hotels, I would still be charged. She said if one landed on
me, it was good luck and it would bring me lots of money. KYLE then offered to get me the
hotel’s Shop Vac so I could vacuum them up! She was nice enough to tell me I could keep
the Shop Vac in my room in case I needed to clean up more beetles. Another desk clerk
who was there offered to suck them up for me.
After unpacking and taking my shoes off, I walked around on the carpet and it was so dirty
that my feet were black. The shower unit was also dirty and had chipped places where
someone had puttied the places but not sanded or cleaned them.
Day 2: I was with my granddaughter’s travel softball team and in between our games, we all
sat in the lobby and ate lunch while watching football. KYLE came over to the table where
my family and I were sitting and tossed down some trash bags and a bottle of cleaner. She
told us that we needed to clean up our trash, take it out to the DUMPSTER and clean the
tables with the spray bottle she had brought over! (Umm….excuse me KYLE, I don’t work
here! Not going to suck up bugs and not going to sanitize tables.) Of course, we were
definitely going to remove our trash and put it in the trash can IN THE LOBBY without being
chastised by KYLE!
Several moments later, KYLE started yelling at our 12 year old girls for being too loud. All
they were doing is messing with TikTok on their phones. They were getting ready to
FaceTime with their batting coach so they were NOT MISBEHAVING! One of the parents
asked KYLE not to address their children but to address the parents and they would handle
the girls. KYLE became very confrontational and stomped over to where we were sitting
and continued to rant.
One of the parents tried to talk to KYLE and diffuse the situation. The parent never raised
her voice and spoke to KYLE respectfully and professionally. KYLE continued to get
ANGRIER and LOUDER! One of the other parents asked for the manager but KYLE refused
the request.
I had previously had my phone out in order to video my granddaughter and her teammates
FaceTiming with their coach. I decided to tape what was unfolding in front of me in case it
became an issue later. When KYLE saw that I was taping the interaction (I was not trying to
hide it), she came over to me and started yelling and tried to slap the phone out of my hand!
She then went and grabbed her phone and started taping US. I really don’t think this is legal
for an employee to video their guests and her laying her hands on me could be considered
assault.
I quit taping and left to call IHG corporate. They told me they could do nothing if I was still
at the hotel and they would transfer me to the Property Manager. Of course, their call went
unanswered.
When I went back to the lobby area, KYLE and her coworker were sitting at the front desk
giggling with each other. A few minutes later, two police officers came in. They asked KYLE
which parents she had a problem with and she pointed out two of the Moms – both of
whom were African American. That’s when we felt like this had taken a RACIST turn. The
police officers then told the two Moms that they needed to pack their bags and vacate the
hotel.
This was totally uncalled for and when I showed the police officers the video footage, they
agreed that we had done NOTHING WRONG and that it was definitely all KYLE. They also
stated they had no choice but to do as KYLE asked since it was private property. They also
stated that they were called to this location frequently.
While reading reviews on this hotel, we found that KYLE had pulled this kind of thing more
than once. She has been called out by name on numerous occasions and not in a good
way.
My family and I did not feel comfortable OR safe staying in this hostile environment so we
decided to check out a day early. When I went to pack, my room was once again Beetle
Infested. They were even IN MY BED!
This facility has NASTY rooms and NASTY employees! Turn around and RUN!!!!

Abusive Manager will cancel your reservation if they don’t like you

Manager canceled my reservation when I called in to see if I could get an early check in. She became hostile and was aggressive with me on the phone then canceled my reservation. We are flood victims from the 1,000!yr flood that just happened and she did not care that she left us homeless. We had book and paid for a whole week at $169 per night Corporate was unwilling to do anything location is independently owned and operated so if they want to blacklist you because they don’t like the way you look or if they’re having a bad day they have every right to do so and there’s nothing that can be done about it leaving you absolutely with nowhere to sleep. I would avoid this location at all cost. It’s not worth the risk of ending up having to sleep in your car.

Unhelpful staff

I booked two nights at Holiday Inn Express Porto Exponor. I had stayed there 6 or 7 times before. When I got confirmation, I found that I had booked through Guest Reservations: a separate company, who charged me about $50 more than the hotel for the same rooms and dates. I wanted to make a complaint to Holiday Inns or its parent (IHG) about this. I wanted to suggest that Holiday Inns should not allow their rooms to be sold by Guest Reservations or other agents who charge ridiculous extra service charges. Despite repeatedly asking the staff at the hotel how I could send in a complaint, they failed/refused to help me.

I like the location and the rooms.

I also discovered that booking through an agent meant that I was not entitled to loyalty points. However the staff did adjust this policy in my favour after I made a big fuss.

Awful - overcharged (& not refunded), sofa bed (not bed), cramped room

We stayed at the Holiday Inn at Crick near J18 of the M1. We had three issues with this place.

1. I booked a standard twin room. The room was very small. There was one bed & one pull out sofa bed. You expect a bed in a hotel not a rather thin sofa bed, with no bedside table or bedside light.
2. They had run out of a large part of their advertised menu so the choice was very limited.
3. On arrival the receptionist took a pre-payment of £200. We didn't charge any extra expenses, so I expected to be charged £117.90 (for the basic room, no breakfast) & receive the refund. Nothing was said about any possible delay on the refund when we checked out. I called the next day & asked why I had not received the refund & was told it could take ten working days but generally it was refunded within three or four days. I called again after a week to be told I have no choice but to wait for the full fortnight. When I said I would reflect this in a review & make a formal complaint she twigged she needed to do something so said she would investigate, She took my name & the date of the stay, established how much I am owed ...... & then said the refund would be made after the ten days. On what planet is that an investigation? Terrible communication & customer service. Waste of time & very unsatisfactory. Two weeks on I am still waiting for the repayment & would not recommend this place.

Quality has gone down and price has gone up.

We have been loyal Priority Club members for more than 40 years. HI is the only place we stayed. That has changed. We do big road trips at least twice per year.
The beds are harder and the rooms are noisier, not to mention the quality and disrepair of the accomodations. The quality of the breakfast has also declined The last 3 HIExpress rooms were awful. Last night there was loud traffic noise all night and we couldn't get the AC fan to run continuously to block out the noise. We are trying new places for the remainder of our trip.

Great location, warm hospitality and great price!

We stayed at the Stockport location. The hotel is superbly placed for transport links and was immensely clean with really pleasant stuff. We give a special mention to Pauline and Michelle who were in charge of helping you at breakfast - they were so friendly as well most of the staff. Would really recommend this hotel.
