Nothing but praise for my experience

I want to speak about my experience of Harley Psychiatrists especially after the scathing BBC Panorama documentary. From my first contact with Annabelle who took my initial call to my in depth consultation with the Psychologist Helena Vellas and finally to my diagnosis with Dr Hareem Siddiqui, I have nothing but the highest of praise for their professional conduct, kindness and understanding around what has been a very long and stressful journey, arriving at a place of finally understanding why I am the way I am. Having undiagnosed ADHD has robbed me of so much throughout my life, mentally, emotionally, relationally and financially, and to finally recieve a diagnosis 2 months ago has been so validating. I've had years of suffering with Anxiety and Depression and a bad relationship with food. I am now on my way to living a healthier and happier life, with a renewed compassion for and understanding of myself. I was only able to go privately due to kind family members who saw my distress and funded my consultations. If I had waited for my referral, which my gp agreed to through the NHS, I would have had to wait 2 plus years and at 52 i didn't want to waste any more of my life. My experience was nothing like the one portrayed on the programme, it was professional, lengthy and thorough.

Fuming about this documentary

Fuming about this documentary. Panorama have lied, the assesments are long and gruelling. Multiple paperwork, medical history, family history and multiple questionnaires. Two long appointments a week apart.

We couldn't afford to pay private for my daughters medication and they put us straight back to nhs, so it's nonsense they medicate to make money.

As for misdiagnosis, I was misdiagnosed by the nhs as bipolar. Given strong dangerous meds and never monitored. I am monitored closely by Harley psychiatrist by dr maritan who actually wants to listen and help.

Behaving Like a Cult

I feel I have to mention this BBC investigation. Shockingly it seems similar to a cult I was in, if you have anything negative to say about the practices you're gaslit, it's your fault and they make ridiculous claims by their supposed lawyers.

From the website the psychiatrists are qualified so who's getting them to commit unethical practices management? Maybe it is another therapy cult posing as a legitimate practice with an authoritarian Director? Who comes up with these cowboy assessments?

Saved us!

I am fuming about the negative publicity. I did a lot of research into the Psychiatrist concerned who has saved our family and no, she did not decide willy-nilly that my child was adhd #panorama. We have had regular, fortnightly appointments with full sessions interviewing members of the family, taking background information from other interested parties such as the school, talking to my child etc for months. It took us a while to get a proper diagnosis because she is a true professional, clear registration with GMC and works for NHS as Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist. Since Harley Street, no external agencies have had to be called so that in itself speaks volumes! Thank you for your help. My family and I appreciate it even if others don't

Dont use this firm

I would advise anybody who is in need of a Psychiatrist to look elsewhere unless you wanted the very worst service you could possible experience. I have been through an horrendous experience with this firm and I do not wish anybody else to have the same experience. I would look for a company registered with CQC who you are able to make a complaint to and the company would have a act on it. Harley Psychiatrists are not retested and therefore can get away with very poor service without regulatory oversight.

comfortable and engaging

the doctor put me at ease and made me feel relaxed and comfortable during our conversations. Additionally, the doctor was attentive and listened to my concerns.

When i failed to send the correct document. the staff displayed incredible patience and regularly following up with a phone call, which was extremely beneficial for me given my busy schedule.

I was taken seriously

I was taken seriously and was not fobbed off. The questions were concise and too the point. It felt professional. The confirmation letter was prompt in arriving.
I feel I came across as flakey. but that's ok, it's an assessment not a job interview. The confirmation letter was largely accurate. The part where it said I can't stick to one thing. That's not quite accurate. The truth is, I will stick to a task for a long time, watch tv and listen to other people all at the same time and do all three things badly. That is not the Doctor's fault I don't think. I don't always put things across well. I was much relieved to get a confirmation diagnosis at the end.

Staff made me feel at ease

The lady who answered my initial phonecall was lovely. She made me feel at ease, explained everything clearly. I felt she was approachable and didn't feel rushed or pressured by her. This set the tone for all other interactions with your staff. They made me feel at ease.

The ADHD treatment was a proper life…

The ADHD treatment was a proper life line after my symptoms went from just annoying to stopping me being able to work. I felt heard and respected and after trying a few prescriptions we found one that agreed with me and it has been life changing.

ADHD assessment

I contacted HS for an ADHD assessment for my son which was initially undertaken efficiently.
When the psychiatrist confirmed the diagnosis, he was offered medication to try. My son has had many struggles over the years and so this diagnosis made sense of so much for us all. Being told there was something which could help, filled us all with great hope and excitement and he was incredibly enthusiastic about beginning the meds.
Unfortunately, the company’s nominated pharmacy had supply issues and couldn’t provide them for 1-2 weeks.
The disappointment was devastating so I sourced a pharmacy who had stock. Harley Psychiatrists said they could arrange for the prescription to be sent to them directly but it would need to be by Royal Mail.
Apparently this was done on the Saturday, there was no sign of this on the tracking for 4-5 days so eventually, after numerous calls and emails, they conceded to resend the prescription on the Following Saturday, 24 hour tracked. Once again it took forever to arrive causing us no end of stress and anxiety, chasing and calling the pharmacy and tracking the post.
My son was due for a review after two weeks of starting the medication which was arranged at the appointment he was prescribed his meds. His doctor wanted to see him before he went in holiday as he knew it was highly likely he’d need an increase within two weeks.
It took almost two weeks to receive the meds which meant he had to reschedule the appointment, by which time the doctor was away. The meds stopped helping after only a few days and left my son feeling desperate and anxious. Now he cannot be seen for almost three weeks for a review.
When asked if another doctor could review/increase the medication I was told they’d have to check and someone would call back, although possibly not today.
The lack of concern, patient care and consideration is totally unacceptable. All they’re interested in is passing on the blame rather that finding a solution to support their patients. I find this abhorrent as those seeking support and guidance from such a company are already vulnerable and in need of professional help.
I believe their services are expensive but priceless if they can help my son. However, patients are poorly valued and money seems to be their focus. I haven’t even been offered anything to compensate us for all the stress and anxiety this has caused, let alone the time spent emailing, calling and sourcing the meds.

I believe my psychiatrist had an understanding of my issues, but I did feel like it was a little rushed on the Zoom call. Maybe because I gave so much information they did not need to ask further questions.

My experience with Harley psychiatrists…

My experience with Harley psychiatrists has been a positive one. I started my journey with Dr Shanker in January after he diagnosed me with ADHD.
I’ve always struggled to get approval in life, with no self control, my brain wouldn’t allow me to engage in anything, unless I found it rewarding. I was overwhelmed and exhausted by almost everything. My behaviour was interpreted as selfish, non reliable, lazy and self destructive. My extreme emotions were crippling me, antidepressants were used as a bandaid for years.
Dr Shankar was very down to earth, his world-wide knowledge in psychiatry was very apparent, he listens and interacted in a non judgmental and respectful manner. His professional attitude was essential in obtaining my diagnosis. I’d been masking for so long, I felt very embarrassed describing my personality and all its flaws.
Im happy to share that all correspondence with Harley-psychiatrists has ran smoothly and hassle free thankfully.

Just finished the process for my ASD…

Just finished the process for my ASD assessment and overall I’m really happy with the service. The team have been very helpful with answering my questions before, during and after the assessment. Although it’s a big chunk of money for a private assessment, it was well worth it for me to finally get some answers. The doctor was very reassuring at the end of my call and I have just received the consultation notes with the confirmed diagnosis. All in all it took about 5 weeks from me booking the initial appointment through to getting the written diagnosis… which is obviously a fraction of the NHS waiting time. It’s well worth the investment and I’d highly recommend.
