Grease - Total rubbish
REVIEW OF GREASE - JULY 2024
Booked last year to see this for my partners "Special birthday surprise" and have never been more disappointed. Whilst accepting things change in life, (We were not expecting JT and ONJ but something that resembled it in looks, voice and performance) this is an iconic musical and has many, many accolades over the years and is a fun family thing. If it ain't broke don't try and fix it!!!!
We have seen the film more times than I can count so know it well and also on the London stage, however sadly there were so many errors in this stage performance that I would need to write a book to fully explain but simply here are key things wrong:
- Danny is a white male in the film - sorry a black man playing this role does not work.
- Sandy is a blonde girl - not a dark brunette.
- Songs from the musical/film are in a specific order as too the plot which the world and his dog know off by heart. New songs added - why? They simply did not fit and were there to pad out what was a very poor performance.
- All songs were totally out of sequence and the stage show appalling being honest and had we known this was going to be as bad would never have bought tickets.
Major disappointment and spoilt a surprise birthday. It was so bad we left at the interval as simply had enough - it really was that bad.
HALL FOR CORNWALL - thanks for wrecking a special day for someone who deserved so very much more. Maybe get as close to the original in the future to save backlash - you really did wreck the day. Thank you so very much - we will never return.
