Solid DIY kit

The only thing that would make it better would be for Guitar Fabrik to pre drill all of the mounting holes.

Hi Michael,

Thank you for updating your review, we appreciate it.

We’re sorry again for the inconvenience caused by the delivery issue. As mentioned, we had opened an investigation with the transporter, whose response time can take up to 72 working hours.

In the meantime, and following your request, we proceeded with a full refund, which was issued immediately to resolve the situation as quickly as possible.

While this case was impacted by circumstances outside our control, we always aim to support our customers with clear communication and fair solutions.

Thank you,
The Guitar Fabrik

Excellent quality kit, highly recommend

I bought a Jackson Dinky style kit with quilted maple top. Everything about the experience has been positive. I was in contact with the company before my order, and I got answers to my questions within hours. The kit came extremely well wrapped and packaged, without any damage, from France to Hawaii in just 5 days. The neck is far beyond my expectations for a kit guitar, with an extremely fine level of finishing detail and no fret sprout or jagged edges. The fingerboard binding is a nice, upgraded detail that I did not expect. The body's quality is also superior. The maple veneer is simply gorgeous. The mahogany back and sides are equally impressive. Someone put some serious time and attention into the woodworking! The kit is completely solderless - even the ground solder to the tremolo claw has been done. The neck holes are even pre-drilled! With a complete set of electronics for a humbucker / single coil / humbucker set-up, and a Floyd Rose bridge, the kit is an exceptional value. You even get a set of strings and a cable. While the components may be entry level (as with most kits), the quality of the body and neck as well as the ease of the assembly more than justify the kit's cost. You can always upgrade components later if you want to get a top of the line floating trem or some screaming Seymour Duncans. I would definitely recommend this kit.

Gibson Les Paul, Honest Review

I was bought this kit by my family as I've always wanted to build my own guitar.
I am not a luthier, but I am more than capable to build a guitar kit. I am an engineer who also has qualifications in electronic repair and mechanics. I carve wood and enjoy carpentry as hobbies.
The kit arrived in Feb 2025. My plan was to take my time with it. It's Jan 2026 and it's almost complete.

The kit is ok. I have found there to be challenges along the way.
Please be aware, these are not a bolt together and play kit.
The neck screw holes and plate do not line up, the plate if used sits on an angle and looks awful and the self tapping screws are weak. I opted for inserts and countersunk hex bolts with countersunk washers to secure the neck.
The electronics are not very good quality I'm afraid, I replaced all of it with new pots, pickups, output jack, switch and wiring. My kit came with all black hardware, however the switch was silver and stood out.
The holes for the pots and switch require additional material to be removed to allow enough thread to fit the nuts on.
The neck needs alot of work. The frets all had to be hammered in as they were stood proud and a full fret level, recrown and polish has been done. The fingerboard has required sanding and oiling. The nut has not had any time spent on it at the factory. It originally stood significantly high on the bass side E which was standing 2.5-3mm above the first fret and so low on the treble there was no gap at all at the first fret for the high E string, it was sat on the first fret even after a fret level. The nut has had to be replaced with a new piece of bone.
The tuners supplied are ok, although I have replaced them anyway with locking tuners.

My overall thoughts are, this isn't as easy as putting the bits together and then play it. It needs alot of adjust and figuring problems out as you build. I enjoyed the experience, but there have been times when the bad workmanship at the factory, especially for something being CNC lathed has annoyed the heck out of me.
Would I buy another? Not from The Guitar Fabrik. I would look elsewhere.

Thank you for taking the time to share such a detailed review of your experience. We have attempted to locate your order in our system but were unable to find a matching record. We have therefore reached out to request your order details so we can better assist you and communicate directly (for example, via email).

First of all, we genuinely appreciate the effort you’ve put into building your guitar, and it’s great to hear that you ultimately enjoyed the process. It’s clear from your background that you approached the project with solid technical skills and care.

That said, we’re sorry to hear about the frustrations you encountered along the way. We understand how certain aspects—such as neck alignment, fretwork, and component quality—can impact the overall building experience, especially when expectations differ.

We would like to clarify an important point for future customers reading your review: our guitar kits are designed as DIY build projects, not as ready-to-assemble or plug-and-play products. They are produced using CNC machining for the initial shaping, but they do require additional adjustment, setup work, and hands-on workmanship, particularly for intermediate-level kits like the one you selected. This includes areas such as fret finishing, nut setup, alignment, and sometimes minor fitting.

For customers looking for a more straightforward, minimal-adjustment build, we always recommend reaching out to us beforehand so we can guide them toward the most suitable option. In this case, as the kit was purchased as a gift, we understand that this step wasn’t possible.

Regarding the specific issues you mentioned:

We acknowledge your feedback on the neck plate alignment and hardware, and we will review this with our production team.

On electronics and hardware, our kits are designed to provide a solid base, but many builders—especially those with experience—choose to upgrade components to suit their preferences.

Fretwork and nut setup are intentionally left requiring final adjustment, as this is a critical part of achieving a personalised setup.

We do take your comments seriously, particularly where the level of adjustment required may have exceeded expectations, and we will use this feedback to continue improving our kits and communication.

If there is anything further we can assist you with—even at this stage—we remain available and happy to help.

Thank you again for your honest feedback.

I made a mistake with the order but The Guitar Fabrik were excellent in helping me resolve it. Quick delivery and communication and no obstacles. Beautiful quality guitar kit and would order again from them definitely. Only slight improvement would be an updated website experience but that's splitting hairs.

Excellent service

Excellent service. Using the Royal Mail was reliant, punctual and a lot more reassuring than certain well known couriers.
Product was well packaged, delivery date was earlier than notification suggested. Price was great.
I will definitely use this company again.

A project revived

I part built an acoustic guitar in my youth and never completed it. I purchased this kit to enable me continue where I left off.
The kit was good value for money and looks very respectable, providing me with the satisfaction of completing my project.
