My irrigation expert

My irrigation expert, Elden, came out and checked my system for any leaks. He called me to let me know I was good to go. I sincerely appreciated that.

The Grounds Guys hsve always been…

The Grounds Guys hsve always been reliable. Even when I forgot to send in a payment they were very patient and continued our weekly service. The work is great and our yard has always looked good. We have had them for our yard for over 25 years.

Read this in its entirety. DO NOT HIRE THEM

Read this in its entirety. DO NOT hire or contract with this company. I know they have good reviews on several platforms but would question the authenticity of those reviews.
We contracted them to resod the front yard of the house and while the pricing and initial presentation of the scope of work was OK - the process, demeanor and end result was TERRIBLE.
Once you agree to the work they are on you from minute one for ALL the money up front…big red flag and I refused to pay stating the obvious and they agreed to move on with the job but not even 4 hours into the job I was receiveing texts, phone calls, and emails hounding me with the same request….remember, job isn’t done, day isn’t over. Once I had a break during my workday, I notified them of the previous conversation and simply said Negative. Finish the job and get paid…simple 1 day basic laborer stuff.
Once the day was done, I the calls/texts/emails came pouring in again and being 2 states away, I simply asked for pictures; they have none and come to find out the “owner” of this company doing all the aggressive money grabbing NEVER visited the house from beginning to end. I called my realtor who immediately went over there and took pictures, and his response was all so telling. “This is the worst of the worst that I have ever seen.” He sent me pictures and WOW …. Just WOW. There is no clean up…mud everywhere…house sidewalks landscaping street etc….but yet in the scope of work, “Clean UP” is in there…but WOW.
Furthermore, the sod was NOT rolled…mismatched, uneven and bumps throughout. I immediately contacted the owner and stated you’re not getting a dime. The job is not done. I don’t understand why this money grab is consistently coming out of your mouth when the job is terrible and not anywhere remotely close to being finished. Prior to this phone conversation he had been blowing up my phone with text messages, threatening to call the police put a lien on the house, etc. etc. all the ranting and raving of a common con artist within the next two days he sent his crew back out there and made things right, but take it for me. Do not I repeat do not hire these people and if for some bizarre reason, you do absolutely do not give them any money until the job is complete. It will be the only leverage you have to try and make a terrible effort looks somewhat right.

Grounds Guys of St. Augustine - not recommending

See their reply to my Google Maps review. Open Gogle Maps and search for Grounds Guys review. It is pretty telling their focus is not on customer service but getting a contract.

They advertised on Facebook and looked like a full service yard company. I signed a contract to have my yard fertilizer, pest, and weed control done by their lawn certified technician. I stipulated that I wanted a summary and action report after each visit.

I paid my first month and about 3 or 4 week later called to see when treatment would begin. They said they had fertilized the yard about 5 days earlier. I had been working in my front yard most of that day and I had seen nobody.

I was told they had time and GPS data to show the technician had been at the address. There was no offer to check witht he tech or to fix the issue. Just a surly reply that their GPS data showed it had been done. I said I was unhappy and there was no reply so I hung up.

I have a doorbell and front driveway cameras. I checked them for that day and I did not see anyone but me and my dogs after 8am.

They then wrote a letter stating they had serviced the wrong house but did not offer to make up the missed service. I replied to the email the next email I got was they terminated the contract.

Summary: Grounds Guys did not do the work they told me they did. They did not offer to make it right. They unilaterally cancelled the contract. I should have done some research as there are many negative reviews on this non-local company.

Rip off artists.

Not only did it take weeks to get my “free estimate,” but they raised the proposed price five fold from last year.

Unprofessional and rip off artists. I’ll take my business elsewhere and recommend you all do the same.

A waste of time.

Don't hire Ground Guys Under Any Circumstance

I hired Grounds Guys of New Lenox to repair the turf in my HOA (6 buildings). They used substandard dirt and now our lawns are full of huge weeds and look 100% worse than they did when the grass was sparce. I contacted my rep numerous times. The first time he responded that he escalated the issue up. I waited a few weeks and reached out again. He responded that he was out of town and would check the status when he returned. I waited another two weeks and reached out again, this time no response. I WOULD NOT HIRE THIS COMPANY TO SCOOP DOG CRAP!

Horrible company

Horrible company. They were hired to take care of our garden and the only thing they will do is just blow the dead leaves. My garden is ruined.
Don’t trust this company if you care about your garden!

I live off the Red Rock exit

My name is Carmela Ortiz I live off the Red Rock exit. I have lived here for a little over a year with my family. I walk my two Dobermans over off Resource Drive due to many have fears of my dogs due to there size and breed. I have walked them in this area since we’ve moved here with not one issue until today. As I rounded the corner of Resource Drive I seen three gentleman standing on the sidewalk with blowers and weed whackers from this company at this point in probably a good 30 feet from these gentleman and I asked if they could please step aside so my 5year old daughter, myself and my two dogs may walk by without an issue. Two of three of the men stepped off the sidewalk walk and one refused to move until we got closer. The two kind gentleman turned off the engines so we could walk by and of course the one whom was about to be a problem did not. As we are approaching closer I asked again if this man could move. Instead of being kind and just moving; he created an issue. Immediately he started bad mouthing my animals stating he “hoped they would bite him so he could sue me” called me a “stupid b*tch”. By this time I’m approaching the trailer and he stepped onto the trailer. Engine is now being revved by this man almost to an antagonizing demeanor. I am passing the front of the truck at this time trying to ignore this very rude man. When he exits the trailer behind me, he is still revving his engine to his weed whacker walking after me “stating come here stupid b*tch I want your dogs to bite me”. My dogs, of course at this point because they are being followed, and antagonize are getting very riled up are starting to lunge at the gentleman walking after me with the weedwhacker, saying foul things to me in front of my five-year-old daughter who at this point is starting to cry because she is getting so scared. Although I called and pleaded my case and spoke to the owner, Frank. He did absolutely nothing not even an apology to me or my husband stated He had spoken with that gentleman, and according to him, he had a different story of what happened. Of course he would What kind of sick man chases a pregnant woman and her five-year-old daughter just trying to walk peacefully as they do almost every other day if not everyday in that area. Once I explained to Frank that I have a recording of this gentleman in the foul language, she was using to me in front of my daughter, he asked if he could be sent a copy, which I replied, of course. Then explain to him that I had already made a police report sent a copy over to the police department. Unfortunately, because this is the first incident, Reno PD is not able to do very much. Unless this issue happens more than once. As I’m in the middle of explaining this He begins to grow irritated with me And begins to talk loudly over me. At this point I explained to him that this call is also being recorded on my end. Love that feature with iPhone by the way. Once that came out of my mouth, he disconnected the call. This company may provide very great landscaping services, however to treat a woman and her child like this it should be unacceptable and the owner doesn’t seem to care in any way shape or form maybe use a more local company with better family values

“The Ground Guys screwed up my yard

“The Ground Guys of Mobile screwed up my yard, admitted it, then have horrible customer service!! They gave my grass a buzz cut, shaved it to the roots, even though the contract said it would be 3.5 inches high, in the middle of summer. It dried out and burnt in several areas. The owner responded initially, promised to follow up, then ignored all calls, texts, and emails. DO NOT TRUST them!” It is almost October 2025. The issue occurred July 9 2025, after I paid them several thousand dollars to prepare my yard only to have the yard destroyed by them without the integrity of taking care of the mistake as agreed.

We are located in Boiling Springs

We are located in Boiling Springs, SC. We initially began dealing with Ground Guys in April of 2024. We requested a full landscape remodel. We agreed to the work based 100% on their recommendations. They did not start the job until mid September 2024.

Now, 10 months later, we have a yard full of dead plants. The beds have look this way since the Spring. We requested a meeting with the owner for several weeks. He never agreed to any of our suggested times, offered no alternatives and completely refused to meet with us.

He did send over 50 text messages in 1 day defending his actions. He sent almost as many two days prior.

We know these facts due to having other landscaper look at our property:

- Full sun plants planted in shade/ will not survive
- Shade plants planted in full sun / will not survive
Spacing and plant selection will not work
Replacing same plants in same places is stupid!

We found this out too late.

Daryl has yet to acknowledge the errors he has made and STILL refuses to talk face to face with us- only text!

We have tried repeatedly to contact the Corporate office with no success. No calls returned, no emails acknowledged.

We are out over $16,000 due to this company. Stay away from this company. We fired Daryl Turner yesterday. Should have fired him last fall.

Do not let them lie to you and take your money.

Beware in signing a contract with The Ground Guys Canton, OH.

This is in regard to The Ground Guys of Canton, OH. I approved the "Make Over Spring Cleanup" proposed contract on April 2, 2025 and paid the invoice for 50% of the project costs on April 9th. I made one adjustment to the proposed plan - only remove 2 shrubs instead of 4 as proposed. That should have been slightly less work for them. However, there was no change in the invoice amount. I then waited for work to be done. When I did not receive a phone call or email, I called at the end of April to see what was going on and why no work was started. I then called again at the beginning of May and was told it would most likely be the following week. That puts it at 1 month after I confirmed the contract and paid the invoice. Work was started on May 8th. I followed up and was not satisfied with the "Spring Cleanup" that was conducted and I made a complaint - there were still leaves and sticks everywhere and there was a fair amount of trimmings on top of the shrubs at the back of the property (photos sent). In good faith I paid at that time, half of the final invoice sent to me (in which the actually amount increased since the original contract did not include the tax). I was informed that the workers ran out of the allotted time for the work, the grass was almost a foot high and the property should have been maintained until they got there. I am sorry but that is a ludicrous excuse. That is why I hired them to begin with. And it is not my fault that it took them a month to get to this project. If they did not have time to do the work, they should have never proposed doing it. Never the less, a crew returned to do more cleaning of the property. They were there on May 15th. Again I followed up on the work on Friday, May 16th. Again, I was not satisfied with the work. I raked the front and side yard areas myself (an area of less than 3000 sf) and collected 3 trash cans full of leaves, sticks and debris. If they think that is acceptable, they are in the wrong business.

The contracted stated that you would clear away leaves, branches and clutter along with other extensive work. My complaint is in regard to the clearing away of leaves, branches and debris. Everything else appeared acceptable, with maybe the pruning of the flowering azalea bushes, which I believe may have been anything but a light pruning. But that is another matter. No where in the contract does it state that the work is based on 6 or 8 or whatever hours of work. I paid by the contract, not by the hour. If their evaluator miscalculated, that is his fault, not mine. I paid for the work to be done, a complete job according to the customer, not according to the business.

Unreliable.

I needed a seasonal yard cleanup, curb appeal improvement, redefining beds, mulch. Some plants
GG guy came out and we went over the property. Said I'd get a prompt estimate.
Never received any follow-up. After about a week, I called. Was told someone would get back to me. Never happened.
This is just plain rude, wasting my time like that. A thirty second call to tell me they didn't want the job would have been fine. But instead, they blew me off. Twice!
There's something wrong with them.

Disappointed by Poor Service and High Costs

I contacted The Grounds Guys of Burleson for help with a flower bed in front of my home. John Mills, the sales representative, came out and provided me with an estimate of approximately $1,100. I explained to him that the flower bed collects water whether it rains or I water my lawn. I asked him to help identify the cause, and he told me the bed likely needed to be raised and sloped properly. He said he would provide an estimate for that, along with raising the stone border and completing a few other updates. He also gave me a separate estimate for installing a drain.

This morning, I sent him a video showing how the area looked immediately after watering. Instead of discussing it further or offering a solution, he abruptly told me I would probably need to contact a plumber, assuming incorrectly that the water had been sitting there for days. It had not.

He also made a few unprofessional and unnecessary comments that came across as condescending. I shared that other landscapers suggested starting with tilling and adding soil to help improve drainage. He quickly dismissed the idea, saying it would not meet their service minimum.

We are talking about a very small flower bed, yet with the drain installation and basic adjustments, the total estimate was approaching $4,000. That is unreasonable for such a limited space.

If you do not want to be overcharged or treated disrespectfully, I would strongly recommend looking elsewhere. There are trustworthy and professional landscapers out there who treat their customers with fairness and respect. Unfortunately, that was not my experience with this company.

Would NOT recommend

I wouldn't recommend this company to anyone. I had an appointment with the Ground Guys & they were no shows. Not even a callback as to why the no show. I even called to confirm before our appointment so there were no issues & still never received a call back. I'd look elsewhere for better service.

INSANE

This is a corporate company that he sub contracts, none of the pictures on YELP are from his jobsites. I would not be surprised at all if this guy ends up in prison some day. I worked for him over the summer and I often felt like he was insane. On my first day, he called guys from Iowa a bunch of, "mama's boys". I once watched him yell to a telemarketer that he would hunt them down and kill them. He would also often lay on his horn and scream at people in traffic, in a company vehicle. He treated his employees awful and would often lose his temper on them. He would also make inappropriate jokes when he had to use the bathroom. Among many other reasons I suggest you stay as far away from this guy as possible.

Overpriced

Discontinued The Grounds Guys, Buda, TX lawncare services after the first month. The owner and crew were nice-enough, but the work product was just average and they are very over-priced. I've since hired a new company that is doing comparable or better work for much less.

Friendly workers and great workers

GREAT LANDSCAPER The two workers were not only friendly but good at listening to what I wanted done. They often had me check on the work, even offering advice. I have been here many years, and this is the first time that I feel like I am working with those that want to do a good job. Also, the owner of the business is treating this like a business with correspondence and the trucks identifying the company.
