Unresolved project and outstanding work – Griffin Construction / GriffinRock
We engaged with Andre Fourie / Melandre Fourie trading as Griffin Construction (now GriffinRock) in July 2021 for a building project.
After the builders’ break in December 2021, the project experienced repeated delays. Despite almost full payment being made, we had to continuously request that the company return to site to complete outstanding work. We received multiple assurances and promises, including commitments in writing, but the work was not completed.
Nearly three years later, the project remains unfinished. We experienced workmanship issues including but not limited to hollow garage floor, cracks in walls, a leaking roof, swelling of roof beams due to incorrect placement and treatment and in general substandard finishes. Certain items that were paid for were not supplied, including but not limited to garage door motors and a fire door. Additional items such as gutters, bargeboards, soffits, and other finishes were left incomplete.
Quoting was also not accurate, measurements for tiling and paving was not correct, and then wanted to issue more invoices to complete this work as well. Measurements was not checked by them on-site, that also cost us R20k in extra work.
We were informed in October 2023 that the project would be finalized by November 2023. Since then, our messages and follow-ups have not received responses.
At one point, we had to halt work because required council inspections for sewer connections had not been arranged. We were ultimately left with over R60,000 worth of work that we had already paid for, which we then had to complete using other contractors.
We also became aware that Griffin Construction was placed under self-liquidation and closed, after which GriffinRock began operating. We also found out that they have done this to more people. Based on our experience, we would not recommend using this company.
We are posting this to share our experience and to encourage potential clients to proceed with caution, or better not to proceed at all.
