While we don't verify specific claims because reviewers' opinions are their own, we may label reviews as "Verified" when we can confirm a business interaction took place. Read more

This website it's a scam

This website it's a scam. After you make a "free account" they tell you for 0$ reservation for your name, after next steep they want all your info credit card etc... I do not recommend using this website. Not even for your avatar.

User data leak

I was informed today by my Firewall that my data was leaked due to this service.
+ I got additional info about it: In October 2020, this "profile add-on" online avatar creation service was compromised, with 167 million names, usernames, and MD5 email address hashes scraped and distributed between hackers. The scraped data didn't include anything not already publically visible, but the company stated, "we did not intend for the API to be used in this way." The incident was considered a "misuse" of service instead of a hack. But while no security protocols were breached, it still led to 114 million MD5 hashes being cracked and distributed.

DON'T REGISTER ON GRAVATAR. It's a dangerous automated scamming system.

I signed up on Gravatar using my company's official email account so there's an avatar displayed every time we send out emails to our subscribers. This email account was created a month ago, was in use, but there wasn't even a SINGLE spam email in our inbox. The MOMENT we were registered with this stupid gravatar service, we INSTANTLY received dozens of spam emails from india. SHAME ON YOU GRAVATAR.

No DNS Settings

Registering a domain name is free for the first year, but it comes with limited options for more technical features, such as DNS settings. You do not have access to these settings, and even the name servers are managed by WordPress. Unfortunately, they cannot provide access to these settings as they are controlled by Gravatar.

It is peculiar that, despite their partnership with WordPress, you cannot transfer your domain to another registrar until the 60-day period is over. While they do have a helpdesk that tries to assist with what they can, for more advanced needs, I would recommend seeking a better service elsewhere.

Unsecure and no choice

I didn't even chose to use gravatar, my data was sent there from another service. You can't delete your data from them.
And then, gravatar doesn't know how to keep data secure: The data they had stolen from me was part of a breach and is now public.

Leaked data

Leaked data. Pathetic data privacy. Truely an embarrassment. Company provides no value.

Gravatar doesn't work at all…

Gravatar should work with your wordpress site login. Well it doesn't. Resetting your passwords doesn't work because the mail to verify is not being received. Gravatar doesn't see the correct mailadres that my wordpress account is linked to. It only sees my username. So cannot change anything. Keep running in circles. And you cannot find anywhere how to solve this. No support or helpdesk. So you are not able to update your profile. This sucks big time.

Gravatar data breach

I don't have an account with Gravatar, I have never visited their web site, I had no idea who they were until FireFox emailed me to say that my email address had been compromised by this site. "Have I been pwned" confimed this data breach.

How did Gravatar even get my email address in the first place?? This is all very suspicious behaviour.
