Last year, I was assured my new kitchen would be ready by Christmas if I paid the deposit quickly. With no start date in sight, they have now refused to refund my deposit
Last year following a friend's recommendation, I contracted Godalming Kitchens to redo my kitchen.
Having been told they needed my deposit by a certain date so they could have my kitchen done by Christmas, I made sure they had the deposit in time. Then I had to make another one or two decisions in very short time, despite me asking for notice, each time pressure was put on me for the decision, or else, i was told, my kitchen would not be complete by Christmas.
Each time I provided the information, and so, a short time after my deposit being paid, and ensuring I had not caused any delay, I was told that my kitchen would not be started before Christmas, and that no date was given for when it would be started or complete.
I wrote, explaining that this was a breach of contract that I was not happy with, and that they now needed to provide a way of convincing me that they were the right company - or I would be looking for a full refund plus compensation. I also pointed out that I would not make a decision until after Christmas. They did nothing to appease a very disgruntled customer, nor did they dispute that I would have every right to reclaim my deposit.
They told me that I was losing my full deposit. I pointed out that they were in breach of contract, which they denied, despite there being clear evidence in the emails.
It now looks like I will have to employ a lawyer to recover my monies, with the additional costs that will incur.
Therefore, I would not recommend Godalming Kitchens at all, despite my friend's kitchen looking good.
