I set up Gocardless to take payments from my customers for my new plumbing company at the time the company was only 12 days old gocardless stated taking payments from my customers but then decided I didn’t pass the verification stage as I didn’t have an online presence (due to being a very new company and not having set up my social media yet) once I had been notified that I hadn’t passed the verification stage my account was disabled and I had lost access to all the money that had been paid into the gocardless system.
After trying to phone the support team I was told they couldn’t help and to email the verification team, after over 2 weeks of back and forth they were extremely unhelpful and I would have a reply a day dragging the whole process out.
Their solution was for my customers to contact their banks and request the a charge back causing massive inconvenience for myself and my customers.
If you value your time and your customers I would avoid

I am in my 4th year of using this company and I cannot fault them. Really easy to set up and use, easy to download and fast what info you need. Highly recommend to take out the stress of collecting customers subscriptions.

Cancelled all our DD’s without informing us, due to some (newly required) missing info, which was simply an address update!!
Consequently, 2 months worth of DD’s weren’t taken, and more annoyingly, they contacted our customers to say that we had cancelled their DD’s and that our charges no longer applied.
Appalling service.

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE
As a start up they were good. Now acquired they are world class awful. Close your accounts without notice with active mandates and could not give a fig that they destroy your business and relationship with customers as a result. All they tell you is open another one. What a total and complete joke. Do not go near them and save yourself a major headache.

This experience with GoCardless has been extremely frustrating.
Our company has been trading for six years with no issue with other companies.
We signed up to GoCardless last month and received a single payment through the platform from a new customer wishing to purchase branded clothing for her gym.
The customers payment (£500) was held while checks were completed, which we understood.
However, our account was later rejected and closed.
Since then, we have repeatedly contacted GoCardless to ask when the £500 will be returned to the customer or otherwise resolved.
Unfortunately, we have received no clear explanation or timeline. The only responses we have received are generic emails confirming that the account has been closed.
At this point, there has been no clear communication about what happens to the funds that are currently being held.
Because of this lack of transparency, we have now contacted the Financial Ombudsman Service to investigate the matter.
Businesses rely on timely access to their funds, and holding money without clear communication is unacceptable. Unless this is resolved quickly, we will be forced to pursue further action.
Steer clear.

I paid for building materials to a local company who use this payment method, go card less accepted my payment and then sent an email to the supplier saying they no longer supported his business and he would not get the funds. The money is now sat in limbo and after a phone call to go card less support (a very loose term) I was told that they would not refund.
This has left the project at a standstill and made the supplier look totally unprofessional, if you are a supplier looking for a payment method I would strongly advise that these hopeless, unhelpful and dismissive bunch are at the very bottom of your list.
#EDIT# Automated bs response, go card less are telling my supplier that my bank needs to reclaim the funds whilst my bank is saying that they need to just refund. I've called and emailed to which I've just been fobbed off with empty words and excuses, in this day and age where I can send money in seconds, the bs that this can't happen in the other direction is just utter rubbish.

Absolute waste of time and money. Avoid GoCardless. Signed up, sold my first product to a new client and then my account was immediately deactivated with no reason given and the client wasn’t given their money back. Really dodgy. The whole situation is very embarrassing to deal with and just makes a terrible first impression with this client. If you’re thinking about giving this company a go, just avoid honestly, it’s been nothing but a headache, and it’s certainly not worth risking your company reputation, time, and money on such a poor service.
