Firefly malaga. They tried to stress us and force an extra 90€ cost on us at the desk all the while having a bad attitude. They told us we cant report existing damage to them that day but instead we must send an email with photos to an email adress on the contract. A somewhat strange email thai is easy to misspell.
We haven’t returned the car yet but picking up the car left us with a very bad feeling that they will try to force lots of cost on us when we drop off the car.
We are using norwegian and their partner cartrawler to book and used their full insurance. That insurance according to the firefly clerk is not valid since the insurance company doesn’t have the license number of the car.
It would be better if cartrawler and norwegian would stop using firefly and instead use companies that dont try to trick you on arrival. The rating of firefly on cartrawler was an 8 out of 10 which to me sounds madly high.

Booked through rentalcars.com and paid upfront. After returning the car I was charged with a fee for premium road service I did not agree to. It was equal to half of the rental price. After studying the rental agreement I found the charge on there. This is really unethical behaviour. The rental was really cheap. Just charge me more but be transparent about it. Stop tricking customers.

Don't be deceived by the low rates this company offers. I went to Malaga for a holiday in the last quarter of 2023 and used a price comparison tool. Firefly turned out to be the cheapest rental company.
However, if you rent a car with them, they'll exploit any minor issue—like in my case, where they claimed a slightly crooked keyhole I hadn’t noticed—to try and extort hundreds of Euros on top of the rental price.
When you pick up the car, they aren't very concerned about its condition and don't accompany you, insisting the car is fine. But when you return it at the end of the rental period, it's a different story. The lady at the return office was overly fussy, unpleasant, and desperate to find any insignificant issue.
She didn't follow the standard procedure; she neither signed the vehicle condition report nor asked me to do so, and I left with a blank report. In a rush to catch my flight, I didn’t pay much attention and went on my way. It was only two weeks after I returned home that I received an email from the legal and debt recovery department of the parent company (HERTZ) in Ireland, demanding €250 for a damaged keyhole.
You can imagine the stress and the back-and-forth email exchanges in English (which isn't my native language) as I tried to present my side of the story. I eventually succeeded in getting the claim cancelled, though I’m still not sure how I managed it. It might have been because I stayed persistent and threatened to involve the European Car Rental Conciliation Service, as outlined in the parent company's policies.
If you want to avoid any hassle, choose a reputable car rental company. With a few clicks online, you'll easily find one with a very high rating. It might cost you an extra €100 for your rental, but you won’t have to endure the nightmare I went through.

Charged additional fee despite car being returned on time, with full tank and zero damage. Don’t rent your car from this firm. Totally unreliable and untrustworthy.

The worst rental company ever - they charge for everything, without informing the client. They even charge for managing the fine, even when Herz company handled the fine and we paid the cost for this fine to Herz. Firefly claimed that they are also entilted for the fee for the fine, but they did nothing in the process. I do not recommend at all! Please avoid!

Don’t use they’ll rip you off for insurance without informing you

SHAMEFUL SCAM: they sell you an insurance without informing you or asking you. The amount is charged AFTER return of the car, thus you only realize too late. Hopefully one day they will be condemned for such practices.

They charge money out of your account without telling you what it’s for. They force you to get a different insurance when you are there. I booked through rental cars.com. They wil sell you an insurance that you have no use for and you have to try and get your money back. Don’t use rental cars. Com or firefly. They are a part off Hertz and they are known for scamming people.

My rental at Alicante Airport in October 2023 is a classic experience of their insurance scam.
Since I always get third party insurance when I book, I always decline the annoying salespitch used by many companys in Spain.
This time, though, the person at Firefly didn´t even ask. He just gave me papers to sign, without any explanations. The result was a hefty charge of more than the actual car hire, that turned up on my credit card some days after my return home.
Needless to say, Firefly and Hertz, their owner, refuse to discuss my case.
These insurance scams are a general problem. A system which undoubtably continues due to huge kickbacks to both company and employee is unacceptable and obviously needs looking into by legislators as well as consumer organisations.

If you could give 0 stars I would. Horrendous company. Customer serve was atrocious. They have taken money from our credit card without telling us what it was for (we presume fuel) The car was returned to them in immaculate condition and had been filled with fuel within 3 miles of Alicante airport. Now they keep forwarding our complaint emails to other members of staff who are ignoring them. I have sent a photo of the fuel receipt to them 3 or 4 times. Will never use them again and never recommend them

Hired a car through Carjet, got a really good deal, 75.00 euro for 7 day car hire (excl ins excess) in Alicante, GREAT, but, on arrival it appears my rental voucher was only a piece of paper that had loads of extras excluded, like airport charge 45.99?? Out of hours 33.00????, service charge 41.28????? add vat totals 108.70??? That added to my "RENTAL price amounts to 183.70??? Are these people for real? ABSOLUTE SCAM, and should not be permitted, and you only get to see the terms and conditions of the rental AFTER you have paid as an addendum to you Hire car voucher.
Do not entertain this shower of cowboys with a USA registered OFFICE, and owned by HERTZ, can someone STOP this ripping off people, vary underhand, and of course they have your cr card details so they've got you by the. balls. Scammers under the umbrella of a registered company! These practices have got to be stopped.

Absolutely shocking. Charged 2x over, make you think one thing and you sign for another. It’s appalling, I wish I recorded the over the desk conversation. Scammers

Positives first - Yes they were the cheapest and the car was great.

But I have had extra charges which I have been told was in the "small print".

£40ish refueling charge - regardless if you return it full. Basically it is a charge you can't avoid.
£30 your choice - no idea what this is and can't find it explained anywhere on their website. The company I booked the car from said it was because I choose the car.... Yes on your website.......
15£ for extra management fee - again isn't included in the price as advised.

Can I say the experience with the company was good. Getting lumped with am extra £80 isn't honest.

wish I had read reviews as well, same thing. booked 2 cars through discover cars, receipt says nothing to pay. got to the desk, told to sign here here and here, nothing explained, all in Spanish no idea what i'm signing. Got home to £107 charges on both our CC's. called firefly soooo many times, never answer their phones. Emailed discover cars and they just sent me a copy of the invoice I initialed unknowingly - I swear this part wasnt even me who had initialed that part and someone has copied the other places I did initial. Not hard to copy a JG is it! AWFUL avoid!!

a scam, we thought we were paying for the deposit, but it was an obscure insurance they do not want to give it back, I should have read the online reviews beforehand. They are a real scam, this business should close down, it is a danger for society.

Another horror Car Rental Company at Malaga airport. I'm a frequent traveller using app 10 rentals a year. This time I gave it a go to Firefly. Bought rental via third party with full cover. At Firefly airport desk I've mentioned my package purchase but they still trying to twist you to get their own insurance as not happy they make not enough money. I refused, agent was not very happy, gave me a contract to sign 5 times in different section. They also ring-fence 1000euros deposit which I agree in case of any damage. From now on, the moment they have full power of managing your money here is where freestyle starts as no one is governing this, they are judges in their own case.
Car was returned spotless, fully tanked as agreed. As it did not give them any leverage to charge yet like a rabbit from a hat a line called SCDWK appears next to one of signatures which apparently stands for Supercover!!!! (Although it was stressed out to the agent at the counter before rental that full insurance package is already purchased and no need of another one as you can make only 1 claim in case of accident anyway. Customer service is absolutely blind on your points keep pasting screenshots of your signature as a proof of acceptance. Typical scam using their own abbreviations known to themselves only just to catch you so they make extra 200 euros off the booking!! Avoid at any costs unless you want to tress for weeks after your holidays trying to fight your own money back!!

SCAM - DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. The are a disgrace!!! They make you buy insurance and won’t give you the car without it (even though I already had premium insurance). Complete con artists. Still haven’t received my deposit even though I returned car in immaculate condition with full fuel. They don’t have a working telephone number and don’t reply to emails.

What a scam, we gave the car back with fuel topped back up, no damages either and they have gave me back less than half of my deposit! No explanation, and impossible to get a hold of them, avoid this company!!!

Wish I had read the reviews. Total scam, woman at the desk was all nice and friendly until we didn't want the extra insurance as we already have car excess cover on our travel insurance then became very rude and aggressive. Then tried to add extra refueling charges that were more than the insurance if we didn't pay for their insurance. How are those two things related? Charge to refuel the car (not the actual fuel) cost more than the rental! Man at desk outside was very unfriendly and refused to help us, made us go back to security and get escorted with security back to the desk inside as he refused to help us. Avoid at all costs, pay a bit more to go with a reputable company as at least you know what you will pay rather than try to scam you after you've already booked.
