Almost 4 years ago, my 12 year old grandaughter came to me with a picture of a cream colored Doberman. She had contacted the owner who told her the Dobie was $90. I then contacted the owner and arranged to meet to see the dog. When we met, the owner explained that she had lost her job and couldn't afford to feed the dog. I immediately knew the dog was coming home with me because it's ribs and hip bones were showing and it looked like the dog was starving. Although she stated the cost was $90, I gave her $200 because of her situation and because she had two small girls, maybe 4 and 6 (I'm guessing) with her who were crying and upset at losing their pet. Now I had never heard of "Get Your Pet" up to this point because my grandaughter who was 12, only brought me a picture and contact information for the owner. The owner stated that there was a pet adoption company that she had the dog listed on but that she would take care of the fees. Then, a few weeks later, my grandaughter started getting threatening emails from Get Your Pet, so I looked them up. According to their info, all pets are checked by a vet prior to listing. There is no way any responsible vet would have cleared a dog that was clearly undernurished and sickly. In the mean time, we took the dog, "Champ" to the vet to get all of his shots, and start him on a weight gain plan. After about 6 months, Champ had gained the weight and appeared healthy. We then had him neutered. Then my 12 year old granddaughter started getting calls from a collection agency. I then spoke to them and explained the situation and also advised them that although GYP states all dogs are vet checked, that was obviously false. I also advised them that the original owner stated they would take care of the $90 fee and that GYP can contact her. Since then, I have received numerous emails and calls from a collection agency asking for or emailing my grandaughter. Every time, I explain things to them yet we still get the emails and calls. About 1 year ago, Champ was diagnosed with advanced lymphoma and after numerous medications and vet visits, it got to the point that Champ had to be put down. Now I understand that GYP is out $90 but I also know that Champ was never checked by a vet as they claim and since the original owner stated that they would take care of the fee out of the $200 I gave her, I am NOT going to pay any money to GYP. The fact that harassing emails and phone calls were directed at my grandaughter even after I advised all involved that she was 12 years old and to contact me, they still keep sending emails and calling her. It's only $90 and it's not that I can't afford it but it will be a cold day in H&$L before I give one cent to a company that acts this way. If they would have just contacted me (I provided all my contact info) instead of harassing a 12 year old, and were nice about it, I would have paid even though I already paid the owner. Now....no.

I found my light and joy through this site, Koda. Most marketplace sites you go on have scammers, that’s the unfortunate truth, but they are far from masterminds. It really only takes common sense to recognize a scam, so while I feel for those who were scammed the website literally states that payments only go through the website (you only pay $100 (which is what I paid at the time) for your dog) and not through any other method. That’s it. I got a beautiful pup, his cage, food, bowls, leash and collar and toys all for $100. Sucks to say but don’t trust everyone you speak to, especially if money is involved.
No issues here.
I had a great experience with get your pet. I'm sure it's directly related with the pet owner, how your experience will be. I had 0 issues. Met owner half way and got my senior chihuahua. I loved him so very much. Sorry to see this site go.
It is true the site was full of liars…
It is true the site was full of liars and scammers people asking for money to bring the dog to you or if it was a puppy , than lying about the health of the animal , I personally had this issue with this site , I had one person who literally told me that they would not bring me the puppy unless I gave them cash , I ended up reporting the situation and I know there were others this is most likely why it was shut down fortunately I did get my forever pet a beautiful red and white American bully puppy who was six months old when he adopted me and is now over a year old and is my big baby
I got my Shih Tzu October 2023
I got my Shih Tzu October 2023 through GET YOUR PET after being disappointed by MANY online sites as well as a reputable, local breeder. I loss my 13 yo Yorkie in 2019 to cancer, then I had surgery during COVID and decided it was time for another fur-kid. The process was seamless! I met the owner in my church parking lot along with my pastor. We both agreed this would be the dog for me!
Not sure what problems these posters encountered but everything from the initial meeting to the FREE vet visit was PERFECT. I am so very sorry that the opinions of a few as well as the questionable behavior of many has caused this organization to fold. Way too many pets going into shelters with horrible end of life :-(
I had a choice of 3 different dogs but LEO chose ME ;-)
Sad to see you go getyourpet.com
The company provided a great service. I got my pet through them. They were as legit as they come. I paid a small fee AFTER the adoption. I was able to meet my doggie and his former mommy before adopting. After adoption, I paid the fee and got the free vet visit as promised. If scammers decided to take advantage of the noble service this company was providing it should not be a reflection of the company. Too bad the people that have provided negative reviews can't make that distinction. Perhaps they are one and the same as the scammers! If you really love pets, this was a way for animals to stay in their home until adopted without having to go to shelter. Sad to see you go Getyourpet.com.
I rescued my best friend from this…
I rescued my best friend from this site. I lost her 4 years later (she was an older Golden) and I am now ready to rescue and not sure where to turn to. You offered us pets that were still in homes that we could find out if raised with children, etc... i've tried rescues but they have no idea about their pets history. Where can i go from here? I even let her original owner know of her passing and he was so sad but glad i let him know
Had great experience. It’s sad to hear that scammers put this…
It’s sad to hear that scammers put this site out of business. I adopted 2 dogs from Get Your Pet and it was a great experience. Met with owners in their home, saw how well cared for the dogs were and owner shared information, food, snacks and supplies. Came back to adopt another and the site is gone. Assuming it’s because of the scammers after reading reviews

Trying to scam me
I gave 1 point because there is no Zero. I wanted to adopt a puppy but it turned into a scam. They wanted money first before they brought the puppy to me. They gave me diferent peoples acct that did not work. I informed get a pet but the puppy is still there. There are actually 3 pictures pictures of the same dog with 3 different name. It was all a scam.
I want to give NO stars
I want to give NO stars! Person named Jenamarie out of Los Angeles is a scammer on the Get Your Pet website! Not sure how people get to advertise and scam people and not be screened to be on what I thought was reputable website. This is why I HATE people (for the most part) :(
Dog scammers
I wanted to get a small dog I saw, I had the same incident, like everybody else was saying how these this lady was keep pressure me to send $100 for a change of ownership and then sending a different emails that didn’t make sense. Thank goodness PayPal was blocking the transaction and I got my money back even though I lost some money I blocked her and they keep contacting me different numbers.
Crap site
Crap site, two scammer asked me.to send money to ensure i will show up. I caught their bluff but to my surprise i was blocked by the site.
Terrible
Too Many Scammers = no one‘s home at this animal rehoming site
This company sells itself as a way for people who have to give up a pet or ‘Guardians’ to connect with possible new ‘Adopters’ people looking for a pet. The problem is — it’s so easy now to generate fake AI images of dogs and cats that look like the same creature from different angles. Beware, scammers are all over the place here.
My first two posts got quick responses. After some back and forth with questions, I set up times to meet with the two different guardians and their pets. Although both these pet owners were in different places with different animals, I got exactly the same response from each. Same layout, same content. I was asked for additional personal information, and was told I needed to submit payment to a Venmo account for important paperwork associated with the pet’s change in ownership before the meet-up could take place.
The site explicitly states guardians are not supposed to ask for payment. Adopters submit payment to the site (to keep the site up and running) once they actually adopt the pet from the guardian. The site seems like a great idea for a service - but is there actually anyone at getyourpet managing the site? Send a message about the scammers to the helpline - you won’t get a response.
So not only are there scammers posting pet pictures and trying to get you to send them money before you’re even set to go meet with the maybe real, perhaps AI generated dog or cat — but the site itself might also be a bit of a scam in that all email responses are autogenerated.
Pretty discouraging if you’re somebody looking for a new pet and trying to make sure that someone who has a pet to rehome doesn’t have to traumatize an animal by taking it to a shelter. While there may be some real pet owners here who are trying to connect with people like me, seems BRIAN ERIKSEN, JEFF TUCKER and ANGELA MARCUS aren’t home at their animal rehoming site.
Horrible website
Horrible website! Terrible, or should I say no customer service. I came across a kitten (purebred Ragdoll) and inquired about said kitten. The guy who I was conversing with was very pushy, which I ignored. First mistake. Gave me some sob story on how his wife died & he couldn’t bare to look at the kitten. We made a plan to meet at a public place, which I made the “meet me” through the website. After I did that, the guy was insisting that I hurry up on the paperwork to get things rolling. He gave me an email address for Zelle (which was some women’s name), it didn’t work. I told him how the emails he were providing weren’t valid. He made it seem like I was the problem. I started getting a bad feeling about this and informed him I didn’t want to continue in the process. He flipped. Told me that he would take the kitten off the website & we could “adopt” her off the website. I have reached out to customer service 5 times, and haven’t heard back. Thankfully I didn’t send him any money. But this website needs to be taken down. It’s nothing but scammers!
Some real owners but many SCAMMERS
The first 6 or 7 pet owners/pets I inquired about were scams. Owner demanding $100 via VENMO to even "meet" the pet or to "process paperwork" - or asking for $650 for me to buy the pet directly from them- and the pets obviously did not exist. I alerted GetYourPet and they blocked a few of them - but have let so many of these scams stay on the site for weeks and weeks. I did talk to 1 obvious real owner, and there are real owners on the site but if it's a pic of an adorable purebred-looking puppy it's most likely a scam. I just wish the people running the site would police it better!
I had a fantastic experience
I had a fantastic experience, but you MUST be careful. The owner and I texted multiple times for several weeks, and I was NEVER asked for money. After I adopted the dog, I paid the fee on website, which was $99. If anyone asks you for money directly or seems shady, don’t do it. Maybe I was lucky — I am definitely a lucky dog mom of a now 5 year old.
Don't get scammed!!!
If I could give no stars, I would. This is a scam dominant site. Too many fake purebred puppies. The "guardian" asked for money to process paperwork and to hold a pet. There are also puppy brokers on here as they add their phone number to the photo. A simple Google image search showed several were stock photos or taken from other websites. The dog I was interested in had a completely different name on the tag in the photo than in the listing. I contacted their customer service and no on replied. There is no proper vetting of "guardians' or policing of listing. If I, a potential adopter, can find several scams in under 30 minutes, it should be no problem for the people who run the site. I'm concerned an older person or someone less savvy about online scams is going to fall for it. FYI, Since I complained about the listing, besides no response from their customer service, the listing is still up and the number of inquiries has tripled. That's a lot of people being scammed. And from the previous comments here, it's being going on for too long.
Was almost scamed
Was al.ost scared by a guy who was trying to give up a golden puppy.
He want me to send money to his veterinary for paper work a transfer if ownership.
Don't fall for his scam
Beware SCAM
I was asked to send money to the vet for records and papers in the amount of 100 using paypal, when i tried doing this paypal denied the transaction. They kept sending me different emails to try which made me question this. Thank god for paypal looking out for their customers. My mom taught me if its too good to be true...They were offering me a shitz shu at 4 months for 199 when others are charging way more than that. Yes I felt stupid for falling for this. Also for others information I was told by my significant other no vet would use gmail or hotmail addresses. Hope this helps.
