Just don't

People say it's good but my experience was absolutely horrible. there's no language changing meaning everything was stuck in POLISH because of windows not wanting to switch to english, copy pasting is REALLY difficult because you selected a background you deleted 15 times before, scaling makes things REALLY blurry and i couldn't even find the settings to change it! there's also no alpha lock and the UIs are confusing. please, just get anything else.

Great app

Great app. not 5/5 because it's really missing the feature of resizing the canvas by dragging the corners like in paint, which would make editing a lot quicker and easier.

Paint.NET is an excellent graphics tool…

Paint.NET is an excellent graphics tool that has become one of my go‑to choices for quick and effective image editing on Windows. What stands out the most is how intuitive it is to use. The interface is clean, logical, and easy to navigate, so even more advanced edits feel approachable and fast to perform.

For more complex operations, the documentation and online guides are a huge help. The instructions are clearly written, well structured, and walk you through step by step, which makes it much easier to fully use features like layers, adjustments, special effects, and more advanced tools.
Performance is great as well – the program is lightweight, fast to start, and responsive even with larger files. Features like layers, unlimited history, a wide range of effects, and support for many file formats (PNG, JPG, WebP, TIFF, etc.) make it more than powerful enough for most everyday design and photo-editing tasks.

One of Paint.NET’s strengths is also its extensibility. There is a rich ecosystem of plugins that add extra effects, tools, and file format support, so you can really customize the program for your needs.

Great app

This app is great! Users are reporting that it will crash on them but it's from pressing file and hovering over acquire. This is caused because it's trying to find a scanner/camera or a device and it can't so instead it gives up on life. Instead just press file, and hover as quick as you can to save. Apparently that works. If they moved Acquire to another location it would fix most peoples issues and it wouldn't crash when hovering over this. That's why I didn't give it the extra star.

Great app, I switched from Ibispaint Windows to this Paint.net due to the 1 hour daily limit on the Ibis.

Easy to use, hard to master

Paint.NET is an editing program which adapts to your knowledge and needs.

In my case, it being easy enough to get into and understand but also with possibilities that run deep to create semi-profesional content helped me learn how to edit photos, create elaborate memes, learn about layers, all sorts of snipping tools and provided me with a playground and "toys" to create especially memes to be shared with friends, used in presentations or just to create them for the sake of creating something.

It's an easy program to learn how to use, but I would argue that it's one difficult to master, meaning that it can offer many possibilities.

Happy editing to everyone!

Been using for 5 years. IM IN LOVE

Where do i even begin...
I owe this software my career at this point.
I'm a content creator. I've started using this back in 2017, although i made crap designs, the software NEVER lagged. Worked flawlessly and fast. ITS FREE AS WELL :D

This software not only beats the competition, but it leaves it in the dust, the ability to add custom mods/plugins is AMAZING, you can make easy drop shadows, easy outlines and etc. This is great if you don't want to pay for photoshop.

Idk how this is for artists, because im a Graphic Designer, but i've heard its not the best with drawing tables. But i'm not gonna argue on that since i don't own one myself.

Although this is an amazing software, its missing some features from the competition:
3D Viewer
Texture editor
Extra tools (although, can be accessed from plugins)

Overall, a 5/5 for me. TOTALLY RECCOMEND to everyone looking to get into GFX and other stuff.

This program is GARBAGE

This use to be my go to program for certain quick edits. Now its just garbage. EVERY single time I try saving my edited file it crashs. It even crashes if I try to make an unusual or less common edit it crashes. I have been reading online a lot of people have the the same experience. Furthermore it would appear any customer support you might get is garbage as well. I couldn't get this off my laptop fast enough. Don't waste your time. Its actually worse than GARBAGE!

Paintdotnet is completely free

Paintdotnet is completely free, so there is no point in being harsh in any way as people have gone to trouble of providing working software at no cost to the end user.

The software itself is exceptional and will meet the needs of non professional users without any issues.

I have been using it for quite some years, there are plenty of free addons for the program too. There are advantages and disadvantages to the program depending on what you want to do. For example, at the time of writing, there still is no blur brush for blurring the edges of pixels.

It will suit most amateurs and probably some experts. If all you want to do is simply crop an image, rotate it, make it black and white or add some minor effects, it will more than make that easy, if you want to remove a background, then the magic wand works very well too.

There are a lot of effects included and many plugins available for free, since I have many plugins I got elsewhere I can't remember which are included by default.

The user interface is intuitive, you can work with layers and have settings for different layers, including a multitude of modes for mixing one layer with another.

Text is a disadvantage, if you are wanting to add text to an image, yes it is easy, however, editing said text at a later stage, does not seem possible. This is one advantage the likes of Gimp has over paintdotnet.

An advantage paintdotnet has over Gimp though, is that you do not need to export a project, you can simply "Save as", Gimp works much like photoshop and others that if you want to save as PNG or JPG you have to export, of course this only takes marginally longer, however it is a feature of paintdotnet I like.

Although I do have Serif Affinity Photo for more advanced stuff, if I want to do something more simplistic, I always opt for Paintdotnet and the vast majority of users will find it useful. Kudos to the creators for making the software free.
