Sounds great until you have to make a claim, then it turns out it's utterly useless... After a number of years being insured as a digital marketing freelancer, Dinghy and ARAG have decided that my... See more

Dinghy seems to understand the freelancer roles in creative media like other insurers just don't. For example my role, video editor, does not even exist in the lookup of job types for most insurers or... See more

They sell themselves in the vein of…

They sell themselves in the vein of similar disruptive digital fintech apps, with easy signup, all service done online or to through a mobile app, but once you sign up there is very poor customer support, and they look more like any traditional financial/insurance company, making difficult or unclear how to pause or stop your policy while charging you nonetheless.

Hello. Sorry to hear that you have had issues with our customer support. Please can you email us at hello@getdinghy.com and we can investigate this with you further.

We offer Live Chat, telephone and email support through normal office hours. There have been challenges in the past year with staff absences due to the pandemic, but I'd appreciate the opportunity to discuss your situation with you personally.

We strive to make the pause process as clear and transparent as possible in your Self Service area which is available 24 hours a day. I'm sorry to hear that you had diificulties with it. Again, I would appreciate the opportunity to find out from you where we can improve. We value all feedback, particularly those areas which help us improve our product for our customers.

Very easy to use service

Very easy to use service, I discovered this through the starling mobile app, in the marketplace. I like the fact that you can share a dedicated page, and that you can add on extra insurances as and when required. I wish I had found this last year! very impressed.

Absolutely couldn't be easier to sort out insurances. Creating the policies an extremely easy process - in the nicest possible way, look forward to not having any dealings with the team - I hope I'll never have the need to.

Called 7 times to speak to someone to…

Called 7 times to speak to someone to check you can be insured if you are a Ltd Co, and to just get some reassurance given the comparably cheap price, but every time the call would be answered, there would be a very short burst of some random noise and then the phone would be hung up. Not very reassuring at all.

Hi Angela

I'm so sorry to hear that you have had difficulties with calling our phone. You are right that there is an error with our phone system and we are investigating as a matter of urgency.

You can contact us with our live chat, which is located in the bottom right corner - this will connect through to a real person that you can speak with; and you can always email us too.

With regards to your question, yes we do cover Limited Companies where there isn't a need for Employers Liability insurance. For instance, if it is just you with your your own Limited Company then we can insure you. We currently do not offer Employers Liability insurance so if that is a requirement then we cannot cover you.

Piece of cake to set up

Piece of cake to set up. Easier than a piece of cake, actually. Pieces of cake can be messy things. Very affordable. We freelancers aren't all rolling in money but we still have to be insured up to our eye-balls in order to take on work, so you guys just made that a whole lot easier for me. I love that I can switch on and off as required. Not all clients demand indemnity insurance, so I can switch on for those that do, and off for those that don't. Win-win. It's almost as if you understand the needs of freelancers...

Smooth, Slick and Super Easy... So Far

I can't offer 5 stars having literally just set up an account and as I haven't had to call on the services yet, if I could just give a 5 for the concept and easiness of getting setup then I certainly would give that.

Insurance is a minefield the things I like about Dhingy so far are:

- It took less than 5 minutes to set up, seriously, fumbling for my credit card was probably the biggest friction in my journey
- It makes it REALLY clear to see what insurance you need
- There are no fees for changing things
- If I have no work I can pause it immediately, so I am not tied into a lengthy contract and exit fees
- You get a dedicated landing page that you can somewhat customise to display and make potential clients feel more confident that you have protection even if it's self-fulfilling, badges like that help when putting yourself out there for sure!

I'm sure there are more reasons but that gives you a good flavour, obviously, the proof is in the pudding for if you actually need to call upon the service but I think it's a fairly calculated good risk to take given the experience so far.

Incredibly easy to use

Incredibly easy to use, and made the hassle of having to get insurance for a low-paid temp contract a breeze and wasn't the eyewatering price I'd been dreading. Thanks Dinghy for making it much simpler and safer to be a contractor :-)
