If you are hospitalized, call the hotline as soon as possible (or ask the hospital or a family member to call on your behalf). Our assistance team can guarantee payment to the hospital (otherwise they might refuse to start treatment until you pay cash) and have all the bills sent directly to us. They also monitor the quality of your care, and can arrange to transport you to another hospital or back home if needed.

Loved the services of Genki Insurance

Loved the services of Genki Insurance. Easy to sign up worldwide. Perfect for Asia travelers. Easy in communication. No hidden nuances in the policy. The only issue that coverings may take a while. Overall happy with experience.

The 50 euro deductible is a problem.

Was very happy in 2024 with them, had many unexpected medical costs, they paid them all back and the process was very easy. Now in 2025 the 50 euro deductible is a problem. Unless you have something serious that requires a lot of invoices for the same condition, you will lose 50 euros every time you consult a doctor. Not great for young people.

Our travel health insurance products—including Genki Explorer—apply a €50 deductible per insurance case, not per bill. This means the deductible is only applied once per illness or accident, even if multiple invoices are submitted. You’ll find this clearly explained during sign-up, in your policy documents, and in the Member Center.

A €50 deductible is below the industry average for this type of coverage and helps to maintain a balance between comprehensive coverage and an affordable premium.

Thankfully, I've never needed to file a claim with Genki but my experience with the company has been consistently excellent. Their communication is prompt and efficient – they keep you well-informed about any changes, and provide a lot of useful travel-related information. I would confidently recommend them to others seeking good coverage at a reasonable price.

Great support for Japan medical costs

My wife had some ligament issues in her foot while in Japan and had to have tests and treatment at two clinics. Genki was great in working with us on the documentation and ultimately covering all expenses. Great service

excellent insurance, always received compensation within a few weeks, made an appointment with a doctor, paid the bill myself, then quickly and conveniently applied for compensation through the website, within a few weeks the money arrived on the card. never had any refusals

We traveled for over a year and found…

We traveled for over a year and found our Genki Adventure plan to be a good fit for our time abroad. Fortunately, we didn't require filing a claim during our time away, but it provided ease of mind on our travels and upon our return to our home country. We would use again and recommend!

The interaction process has become much slower

How convenient it was to work with the Air Doctor application (I considered your company to be the best in the world for this service) and how strikingly inconvenient it is now (it took me a few days to fill out all the documents ). If I may compare it with cars , it 's like changing from a brand-new Mercedes to a bus that still needs to get into after standing in line at the bus stop . I apologize for this comparison, but I hope my review, as one of many, will allow you to improve your service and I will recommend you again as the best insurance in the world. I sincerely wish you prosperity.

I understand that you are not happy with pre-payment not being available with the Air Doctor app

Outpatient pre-payments are not guaranteed in Genki Explorer's terms and conditions. This option was available with the Air Doctor app as an extra service.

A pre-payment option not being available at the moment does not affect the overall outpatient coverage. You can choose any local doctor at your disposal, pay the costs upfront, and submit a claim for reimbursement.

We are actively working on improving the product. We also do not want customers to pay upfront for outpatient treatments.


Only for hospitalizations and surgeries, there is no need to pay upfront. In such cases, you would call the 24/7 emergency assistance. They coordinate the entire process and payment with the hospital.

Amazing Emergency Coverage

I was hospitalized in Japan for 19 days after a serious accident on my bicycle. It was difficult at first to connect the insurance with the hospital due to language barriers, but once connected, the process was simple and stress free. All expenses were covered quickly, including surgery. I can easily recommend Genki for anyone needing emergency coverage overseas.
