Boiler installation by Gary McGowan

Gas-Elec provided Gary McGowan to install a new boiler. He was excited about the installation as we were. Over two days he did a first rate job with a smile and humour. Thans Gary for the excellent job you did.

Gary McGowan - Informative and inspiring

It has been our good fortune to be customers of Gas-Elec and even more fortunate to have Senior Engineer Gary McGowan, so dedicated and so knowledgeable about his trade. He has done a great job in replacing and updating all of our radiators in our home, as well as taking the time to explain to us how the system works best, in a friendly manner with such patience. He is most certainly worthy of 5 stars.

Amazing service

Gary M installed my boiler and found him professional, efficient and respectful of myself and property. Explained everything in detail and ensured I understand the system. Highly recommend! Amazing service!

Very poor performance

Five years ago, this company came to my flat and gave me EICR certificate. This year I needed to renew the certificate. I called them back in Feb 2026. They told me I needed to pay them the money first. So I paid them £210. A few days later they called me and said they can not do the work as it was, unless I changed the meter location in the electrical cupboard. I asked them to refund my money so I could arrange for another company to do the inspection. Although I called their customer service and asked for my money, I have not received it yet. It seems they are not going to refund my money.

Senior Engineer Gary McGowan attended…

Senior Engineer Gary McGowan attended my property to carry out our annual boiler check. He was on time and called before he attended. He was polite and explained to us how to use the boiler and room stat to be more efficient than we have been doing. Lovely gentleman and look forward to having him back again.

Used Gas-elec for our annual boiler service. Engineer (Gary McGowan) arrived as requested. Gary explained what he would be doing and carried out the service in a clean and timely manner. Will definitely use again.

1 star – Appalling service and poor client care

I paid for a gas safety certificate through a company that uses subcontractors, and the service I received has been completely unacceptable.

It took nearly two weeks for the gas contractor to contact me after payment. When they eventually did, I booked an appointment and took half a day off work, as I have no one else who can access my property.

On the day of the appointment, I waited over three hours with no communication whatsoever — no text, no time window, no update from the engineer. I only received an automated confirmation message.

At around 4:00 pm, after waiting all afternoon, I had to chase the company myself to find out whether the engineer was even attending. Shortly after, I received a text message saying my appointment had been cancelled and needed to be rebooked.

The main issue is that once work is passed to subcontractors, clients are clearly not looked after as if they were direct clients. There is no ownership, no accountability, and no basic customer care.

This is especially unacceptable because I had already paid and urgently needed the certificate for legal purposes. Taking time off work only to have an appointment cancelled without notice is not reasonable.

This experience caused unnecessary stress, wasted time, and disruption. I would strongly advise others not to use this service.

Not helpful

Used this company a few times on various properties and our own home. Recently they were booked for gas service which was cancelled as engineer went on a last minute holiday! Appointment pushed back 3 weeks. In the meantime the boiler broke down. I rang to see if someone could call as customer is elderly 87, lives alone but told no help, look up trust a trader for someone else. Not friendly on phone. Not good enough, will not use again. We have rental properties which need Epc reports but will never use this mob again.

Very reliable company.

I've used Gas Elec for many years now for our rental property. When required the service has always been easy to use reliable and trustworthy. Peter has been carrying out our annual gas and electric check since we bought the property. We are very grateful for his time and experience.

Have been without an oven for...

Have been without an oven for nearly a month due to this company's incompetence. Contacted the company with my problem, was told unable to help promptly due to staff on holiday.
Booked an appointment for 29 Sept 25.
Then received confirmation of an appointment on the 30 Sept 25. Don't know what happened to the previous appointment.
The electrician was scheduled to arrive between 0900 and 1200.
No sign of electrician at 1130, called company and was told they have no details about this appointment, even though I had an email confirmation from them. They said they would make another appointment for 7 Oct 25.
To put salt on the wound they informed me of a £75 call out charge, even though I paid over a thousand pounds for electrical work in my new home to them, only a few months ago. Not happy.

Zero care for peoples time, Zero communication, Zero customer service

I made an appointment for Aug, the engineer did not show and did not bother to let me know.
Made a 2nd appointment for Sep and confirmed 2 days before and the engineer did not turn up and did not let me know again.
A 3rd appointment was offered for October!

Despite knowing the urgency due to a deadline, no one in any of the teams made any effort to check that a engineer would arrived as promised or to check in with me.
