Training with Gareth
Gareth is incredibly knowledgeable, always brings such good energy and every session is well structured and tailored to your needs. He always pushes you in the best way, I couldn’t recommend Gareth enough!
Amazing PT
Gareth is such a great PT! He really listens to and understands your goals and creates a program to help you achieve those goals. He is lovely and bubbly and personable which makes training each week so much fun!
First Class Online Coaching - Supportive, Knowledgeable and Results-Driven
I’ve worked with Gareth online for a while now, and 100% reccomend.
From the start, he took the time to understand my goals, training history, and lifestyle; then tailored and personalised everything to me.
His programming is clever and progressive and adapted when needed to keep things fresh. A big standout out of the package Gareth offers, is the support both from himself and the community he has made. Gareth makes himself approachable, contactable and always there —quick to respond and genuinely invested in my progress.
I've seen massive improvements not just physically, but in my mindset and confidence also.
If you’re thinking about it: go for it. You won’t regret it.
Says all the right things
I weighed myself this morning, and for the first time since before Covid, I'm under nine stone! After feeling a bit rough last week, your words made a difference, and I know what to do if I feel that way again. On a walk, I noticed I feel stronger and healthier. Walking up the hills on my usual route feels much easier. The weather not being awful helped, of course, but I truly feel I've found a good consistent place, which has always been my biggest challenge.
Last year, when I had my tonsils out, you spoke to me before I went through with it because I was unsure. You told me it made sense, and having them out was one of the best decisions I've ever made. Thank you for that.
Everything's going in the right direction. I'm getting more comfortable counting calories in a healthy, non-restrictive way, and eating better so I feel fuller when making food choices. I have a holiday to Greece in a couple of weeks, and I'm looking forward to drinking all the wine and eating all the bread. I've also already made plans to stay active and get my steps in while I'm there. My husband and mum will be with me, and we all like to be active, which is good.
Oh, and and , I've just tried on a dress that I've not been in for ages, and I can zip it up on my own without any help from anyone, which is an achievement in itself!
So yeah, I'm feeling pretty great right now.
Thanks!
Brilliant professional and lovely guy
I had never seen a PT before as I had always been put off by so many I would see around gyms over the years. But a complimentary session with Gareth when I joined a new gym changed my mind as Gareth put me at ease straight away, never making me feel weak or self conscious. I ended up seeing him for 12 months which I never imagined I would and it was a really great experience. He changed my outlook on strength training, gave me confidence I could do it and always did so with a smile on his face and a super positive attitude (even on dark early winter mornings). His app is also really good and Gareth helped me a lot with my nutrition. Overall result was exceeding my target weight loss and being significantly stronger. Would highly recommend and thank you Gareth!!
10/10
Gareth was my Coach for a year. In that time I got the best shape in my life. I hit many milestones and PBs. He tailored the program to suit my needs and responded quickly whenever I had questions or queries. Anyone looking to make improvements to their life I would definitely recommend choosing Gareth.
Amazing professional
Amazing professional! Makes the sessions enjoyable while still seeing progress fast!
Relentless Positivity
Gareth is an excellent and committed PT, supporting both with workouts and nutritional advice and guidance. His relentless positivity and enthusiasm drives commitment and is very motivating.
I loved training with Gareth
I absolutely loved training with Gareth! In a short space of time, I gained so much strength, which has not only improved my overall fitness but also my performance in other sports like yoga, running and pilates as well as my mental health. Gareth guided me to set goals which were achievable and enjoyable. His range of exercises were diverse and flexible to suit my personal needs. Gareth's training app is incredible too.
Great progress doing PT session with Gareth
Gareth is friendly and professional. He listened and adapt the training towards the goal I want to achieve. I saw lots of progress since I joined the PT session with him. I was so surprised of myself pushing heavier weight. Definitely i recommend him.
Highly skilled, professional and empathetic PT who has given be incredible results!
I've been training with Gareth for almost a year now - I only intended to do a few months as this was my first experience having a PT but the sessions have been so transformative for both my physical and mental health I'm reluctant to let them go!
My original aim was simply to improve my lower body training and get more comfortable on the gym floor -I've always enjoyed classes but found the gym floor intimidating and like I'd look silly figuring out the machines. The amount of times I used to think about going to the gym floor and chickening out was insane - then just defaulting to the same old group classes because they were my comfort zone, meaning my training stagnated as a consequence.
Now I train 4 times a week (3 of which are on my own) and have no problem navigating a busy gym floor and feeling like I absolutely should be there. I've also become so much stronger since starting with Gareth and get lots of lovely compliments on my physique on a regular basis - which was never the main aim but a very enjoyable side effect!
I'd describe Gareth's training style as both disciplined but warm - he pushes me hard every single session and makes sure I'm challenging myself, even on days when I don't believe I can do it. At the same time, he is incredibly empathetic and compassionate meaning I never feel intimidated or uncomfortable. As a woman with a male PT, I really appreciate his professionalism and how safe I feel when training and taking direction from him. He's also mindful of things like my cycle and how that'll affect my training, which means we have a really open dialogue and I never cancel a session because I feel he won't get that I feel weaker at certain points in my cycle or that I might have a little cry while warming up (that has happened lol).
Gareth goes above and beyond to always explain to me how the various exercises and sessions we are doing are contributing to my goals. He always corrects my form when needed and is true educator - he helps you to really understand which muscles you are targeting and gives tips and advice on things like recovery, sleep and diet. He switches up my plan every 6 weeks and does regular check ins with me to ensure I am feeling on track and gives me an opportunity to give him feedback. When I've felt a certain machine or exercise doesn't work for me, he is always happy to offer alternatives and does so without judgement.
Finally, my sessions with Gareth are FUN. In between grunts and feeling like I have jelly legs, I'm usually in fits of laughter - it's a great way to start my day. He simply does not allow my negative self-talk and is the voice of belief and positivity I didn't know I needed. The physical results are undoubtedly there, but if anything it is the process of growing stronger and having a skilled, kind and motivating companion to help me get there that I enjoy the most.
Unwanted physical contact + music loud enough to cause hearing damage
I attended a boxing skills class at 'Sweat By BXR' Canary Wharf on 26 Feb 2024. Unfortunately, my experience was negative due to Gareth Thoo's behaviour.
When a fellow class attendee politely requested that Gareth lower the excessively loud music (loud enough to cause hearing damage), he responded disrespectfully by laughing at the request (whilst turning away from us). Gareth's dismissive attitude created an unwelcome environment.
After making the music even louder, Gareth returned to us and suggested using earplugs to mitigate the loud music. However, using earplugs caused more issues, such as making it harder or impossible for us to understand new instructions from Gareth. The earplugs also potentially impacted our balance, which is imperative for any exercise class, not least a boxing fitness one.
Unwanted physical contact:
During the class, Gareth approached me from behind and slapped my upper back with moderate force, which was inappropriate and uncomfortable. My autism means that I am sensitive to personal space violations from strangers. This was my first time meeting Gareth, so there was no existing relationship, bond, or comfort.
After I told Gareth not to hit my back, Gareth continued unwanted physical contact by placing his hand on my upper body despite my repeated requests for him to stop touching me. This was somewhat intimidating on Gareth's part. Gareth eventually stopped touching me and apologised (repeatedly), but these apologies felt forced and disingenuous.
While I appreciate Gareth's allowing me to bring in my duffel bag with boxing gear, water, etcetera for my first visit, the negative aspects of my experience in his class outweighed this courtesy.
Gareth's unprofessional conduct, lack of respect for our genuine concerns, and inappropriate physical contact created an unsafe and uncomfortable environment.
I would not recommend Gareth Thoo's classes or PT to others.

Reply from Gareth Thoo Personal Trainer
Gareth Thoo: PT legend.
When I asked Gareth to provide me with PT, I had a number of objectives. I was recovering from an ankle injury which had limited my running. I was also very new to strength training and I wanted to be able to lift safely and set realistic and attainable goals. Finally, I wanted to enjoy the limited time I had to train.
Having had a couple of group sessions at Hero Training Club I knew that I had found an excellent gym to train at. However, a lot of the activities were new to me and I wanted to make sure that I was getting it right and ensuring that I worked out safely. Gareth was one of the trainers in the group sessions. I found his energy and his outlook to be highly motivating.
Under Gareth's supervision and encouragement I got fitter and stronger. I rehabilitated my ankle and got back to running pre-injury distances and intensities. Gareth's good humour and enthusiam are infectious. He was able to encourage me beyond my expectations. I loved his no-nonsense, straight-forward, plain-speaking motivation. He has a gift for making the pain-cave habitable. I found Gareth to be an inspiration. Our one-on-one sessions were exhilarting and challenging. He was a brilliant coach and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend him to anyone no matter what level they are at!
My good experience with gareth
I came to Gareth because I was experiencing back pain when doing some of the exercises in group classes and to give me guidance on how to lose some weight. In our sessions he improved my technique on all exercises and also gave me specific exercises that helped with my back pain and improved my strength, which I could notice almost immediately. He also created a plan and helped me to lose some weight around my busy University schedule. I really enjoyed training with Gareth and would recommend him for anyone looking for an experienced and friendly personal trainer!
Highly recommended!
I’ve been training using Gareth’s personalised programme for a few years now and I’m the strongest, healthiest and most confident in my body I’ve ever been. Gareth has given me the knowledge, skills and confidence to lift heavy but safely and achieve my physical goals. Gareth always listens to my specific needs and goals and tailors my programme appropriately, making it challenging but enjoyable too. Couldn’t recommend him enough!
Best person trainer
I came to Gareth to lose weight and get fit. I started with his group boxing classes and absolutely loved them so decided to try personal training to improve my boxing technique, lose weight, build strength and to have guidance and accountability with my nutrition.
Gareth has been so helpful throughout my fitness journey. During my sessions, he always motivates me and supports me. I feel really safe lifting heavy weights with him and I enjoy getting stronger every session. Training is fun and he always cheers me up, pushes me to the limit, encourages me and trusts me to do things that I don’t even believe I can do myself. He is very knowledgeable about training and exercise and always knows how to help me if I’m in pain.
I’m very sad to see Gareth move to another city as I might not be able to find another personal trainer as good as him. He is really helpful, a great listener, always takes my needs into consideration and he changes the training program and nutrition targets based on my goal.
Gareth is a great personal trainer and friend who has helped me maintain a healthier lifestyle!
Gareth’s constant motivation and…
Gareth’s constant motivation and encouragement pushed me to lose 3 stone and to have a healthier body and mind through exercise, eating well, and getting enough sleep.

I enjoyed several months training with Gareth. I also learned a lot and became the strongest I have ever been. He understood my personality and lifestyle well which was factored into my program. I felt like I was getting a tailored and customised plan which had the right balance of including things I enjoy and pushing me out of my comfort zone.
