Knowledge, Impartiality and Broad View
Furbnow have been instrumental in ensuring I make the right upgrades to my home.
I appreciate their focus on the overall environmental impact of each change, not just whether it saves money. The Home Energy Plan made complete sense and left me confident we knew what we were going to do. The team have also been accommodating and happy to go at our pace, making it easy to fit our project around other priorities - the kids.
The main benefit of Furbnow is knowledge and impartiality.. Furbnow provide impartial assessment with a broad view, putting information in a way that makes sense so I can make the best decisions.

Great support with retrofitting
Furbnow have given great support with retrofitting my house with insulation. They completed a survey of the house to identify potential measures, explaining the options available, then project managed the work. I wouldn't have known where to start or felt confident making decisions about who to use, so having them to work with made it much easier, as did knowing that all the detailed planning was covered. I'd definitely recommend them to anyone wanting to improve their home's energy efficiency but unsure where to start.

Furbnow - a safe pair of hands
Furbnow have been really helpful in explaining the whole process clearly. Lots of builders we spoke to when trying to do retrofitting ourselves didn't seem to know what they were talking about. I know we're in safe hands with Furbnow.

Furbnow phase 1 complete
I have completed phase 1 of the Furbnow service. A retrofit survey was carried out at my property to understand its current condition and a Home Energy Plan has been produced. I can now decide whether I want to progress with the plan myself or pay Furbnow to design the retrofit solutions (phase 2) and/or project manage the whole project (phase 3). Overall service has been excellent with 1 star being taken off due to the surveyor neglecting to let me know he had concerns there may be a leak in my roof when he was at the property. I recommend Furbnow if you lack confidence in how to upgrade the efficiency of your property.

A Thoughtful, Client Focussed Company
Thoughtful, experienced and friendly staff. Ben was appointed our surveyor for a home energy efficiency assessment. He listened carefully to our thoughts about the work we felt we should do and tailored a very thorough home survey to focus on those aspects that were important to us. There were two follow up calls - one just ahead of issuing the survey report and one after. At no time did we feel pressured and we found the end report most helpful in guiding our priorities for improvement work including items related to air quality in the house - we had not considered this but we were happy to see the recommendations in the report. We had the opportunity to talk to other members of the Furbnow team and again were impressed at their professionalism. We are now considering how we might using Furbnow to tender and project manage some elements of the work that has been identified.

Home Energy Plan and Retrofit Co-ordinator
We initially bought a Home Energy Plan from Furbnow, and we've since engaged them for a second phase to 'Confirm specification and installers'.
Initially we weren't really sure how useful Furbnow would be, because we had a good idea of what we wanted to do. But their prices weren't too high so we gave it a go, and we're really glad we did. The Home Energy Plan helped us to understand the likely costs and savings of the different measures - and the quotes that have recently started to come through from suppliers are pretty close to the estimates in the Plan.
Furbnow has vetted industry contacts which means that we were shielded from the baffling experience of having to identify potential suppliers to tender for the work. Although these suppliers haven't installed anything yet, I can see they have good reputations and the right certification - which I wouldn't have known to look for if we'd been doing this without Furbnow.
Our retrofit coordinator is experienced in the construction sector and with energy efficiency projects like this. She clearly knows what she's talking about and is very helpful, so we can draw on all of that experience in making decisions about our project. She's also been identifying interfaces between our energy efficiency project and our separate renovation project, and has a plan to help our builder coordinate with the suppliers installing our energy efficiency measures.
Our project isn't over yet - there is another phase where we could involve Furbnow to manage the installation. We're not sure whether we will yet, but that's because of the nature of our project rather than anything else. And I think it's good that they are flexible and you can choose whether to involve them in different phases of your project.

Providing an all round energy review
I believe Furbnow is committed to providing a very useful service to improve energy efficiencies in residential properties (and perhaps other things). They also provide a holistic service which I have not found elsewhere. For various reasons we have yet to proceed with the project but the fact they have asked us why and how they can improve makes us feel even more positive. Finally, a special shout out goes to Heather Fox who proved to be both exceptionally knowledgeable and patient in explaining the details. Hopefully we will proceed eventually.

Furbnow have exceeded our expectations, worth the investment.
My wife and I bought a retirement bungalow two years ago in our preferred location and after two winters, we felt that the house got very cold very quickly , we were also experiencing mould on some of the exterior walls. As this is our forever home, we needed to address these issues. I spent days on the internet trying to research this subject but just found that I was becoming more confused, the more that I read, and very nervous about contacting contractors who I knew nothing about. I contacted my local Council who were providing a free service to provide some guidance as to how to navigate through this difficult subject area. I explained that I wanted an independent company to survey my house, identify the issues and recommend the right contractors to put things right. They recommended Furbnow as the place to start, and I booked a survey through them.
The whole experience with Furbnow to date has been outstanding. Our surveyor Ivan took around 3 hours to complete the survey, he was extremely professional and at the end of the survey, he provided a brief summary of his findings, in non-technical language that I understood. He explained that the next steps were that a colleague would contact me to talk me through the findings and the recommended solutions.
Ben made contact with me within two weeks and provided a draft energy plan which he then took me through. The plan has an easy to read summary which lists the improvement recommended, the estimated cost, the savings and payback. The finalised plan was then delivered to me a few days later. After I had gone through it, Ben contacted me to arrange a follow up call which gave me the opportunity to ask questions and seek his recommendations. He has been excellent throughout this process, no pressure at all and given me the confidence to make informed decisions on the next steps.
I couldn’t be more delighted with the service I have received from Furbnow, they have exceeded my expectations and we are looking forward to the project phase with their support and guidance to make our forever home, a warmer home.

Stepped in to help after a year of me trying by myself
I have been trying to retrofit my house by myself for about a year, but at every turn I've run into difficulties finding the right tradespeople, and in getting good, honest advice about what I should be doing to bring down my energy bills.
Furbnow helped cut through that, sorting me out with cavity wall insulation and solar panels, and hopefully soon, a heat pump.
After a year of floundering around by myself, it was a real relief to not have a hard sell, but just a clear explanation of what would actually help retrofit the house - and then to have their help finding traders who could do the work.

Honest advice given and no fee taken
I signed up for a green home survey and report/recommendations. I had already had a previous survey and the options were pretty straightforward, so Furbnow advised that I was best to to engage a supplier. They refunded the fee and made a referral to a trusted supplier.

Great home assessment.
After struggling to find anyone who could properly assess our grade two listed Victorian era home in Wales, I was relieved and delighted to discover Furbnow.
Joanne conducted an incredibly thorough survey of our property - her attention to detail was remarkable. She spent several hours examining every aspect of the house, documenting everything meticulously.
Joanne's expertise helped us understand the specific challenges of improving energy efficiency in a period property, and she identified issues we hadn't even considered. She put me at ease, and I felt able to ask all the questions I needed to, and she explained everything in a way that was clear and made sense.
It's clear that Furbnow have a genuine commitment to getting things right. They provided clear, practical solutions tailored to our home's unique characteristics.
The detailed report we received gave us complete confidence in planning our next steps. Thank you Furbnow, and especially Joanne, for making what seemed like an impossible task feel achievable. I would absolutely recommend Furbnow to anyone looking to improve their period property.

Really pleased with my recent…
Really pleased with my recent experience with Furbnow. Freddie spent about 3 hours going around my house and explaining what he was finding as he went along. After the survey, Adam walked me through their report on Zoom - turns out our walls are letting out most of our heat and our loft insulation is way below the recommended depth. They've suggested we tackle the loft and external wall insulation along with replacing old windows first so that in a few years (when we have the budget) we can get a heat pump. Nice to have a clear plan instead of just guessing what to do. The process so far has been thorough and educational - definitely worth the money if you're trying to figure out why your house is cold and what to actually do about it.
We are now making good progress with installers and hope to see the improvements installed soon!

Not an end to end service, deeply disappointing.
We engaged Furbnow to prepare an assessment of our property with a view to carrying out progressive insulation and retrofitting of our property. There was a degree of chasing involved in getting things organised but we did get the report we paid for. There was further chasing in terms of arranging a discussion with the assessor to consider our options. Having had that discussion, things have ground to a halt and we have sent countless emails with a view to looking at how we take the next steps with them which occasionally were answered but have never taken us any further forward. We contacted the assessor who tried to make progress, said that he would speak to Furbnow but that has not helped. We have had emails from Furbnow promising us that they would give us the information we needed to make choices but that has not happened. It would almost have been more polite of them to say that they simply did not want to do the work (we live in an early 1900s property which has some challenges in terms of retrofitting but is far from atypical). Things dragged on for over a year until we now take the view that they are not interested.
It is deeply disappointing that what promised to be an end to end service basically entailed us getting the easy bit - an assessment report which we paid for - but for whatever reason no service whatsoever thereafter just a lot of chasing to no avail.

OK at the start, then all trust was destroyed
I was happy to engage Furbnow to get independent advice on home energy efficiency. I was happy with the survey and assessment that was carried out by an associated contractor. I then waited a long time for their report.
On reviewing the report and recommendations I found that they were advising installation of extra ventilation when our home has forced air air-conditioning. They recommended replacing windows with an energy and cost saving that would take over 40 years to recover and they recommended exterior wall insulation which would be inappropriate and where the cost would again take 40+ years to recover.
Oddly, the recommendations did not include cavity wall insulation which I had specifically pointed out to their surveyor and he had confirmed.
Finally, they offer a link on their website to book a consultation, but that was broken for weeks.

Cavity wall issues
We had issues with the cavity wall insulation in our mid-80's house. We could ourselves find no firm willing to look into this. Furbnow provided us with an array of specialist firms who providing detailed surveys. Furbnow provided the experstise for us to fully understand the surveys and their sometime conflicting advice.
Without Furbnow we would not have arrived at the right solution for our circumstances. Overall an excellent service.
