Free Speech TV (FSTV) is one of the last standing national, independent news networks committed to advancing progressive social change. As the alternative to media companies owned by billionaires and influenced by governments and corporations, FSTV amplifies underrepresented voices and those working on the front lines of social, economic and environmental justice. Mission — Through bold storytelling and independent media, Free Speech TV’s mission is to empower ordinary people to engage in collective civic action toward a more sustainable and just society. Vision — Our vision is an equitable, kind, and sustainable multiracial democracy in the U.S. —powered by fearless truth-telling, surprising conversations, and the voices of people from every walk of life. Values — FSTV is rooted in the movement to build a just and sustainable multiracial democracy. We recognize that systemic inequities—the legacies of colonization, enslavement, and white supremacy—continue to actively harm our society and many millions of people and their communities. We aim to do our part by confronting harmful systems that impact our organization, staff, and viewers. We will inevitably make mistakes along the way, and remain open to learning and improving our policies and practices. Our Commitment — Honor Indigenous Sovereignty FSTV is headquartered in Denver, Colorado, on lands originally stewarded by the Ute, Cheyenne, and Arapaho peoples. We honor this history by amplifying the voices of Indigenous communities—alongside Black, Brown, Asian, LGBTQ+, immigrant, and working-class people—whose stories are too often erased or silenced. We strive to spotlight not just injustice, but the beauty, ingenuity, and strength in how people survive, create, and build a better future together. Keep Learning — We all come to FSTV from different backgrounds, but while we’re here together, we commit to ongoing learning about systemic racism, colonization, and other forms of oppression. We share as we are comfortable and listen to learn. We strive to receive feedback and new information with openness and to make space and time for personal growth. Foster Connection — Our team is committed to fostering an organizational culture where every team member is valued, supported, and empowered to thrive. This is an ideal, and although we won’t always be perfect, we commit to always seeking a deeper understanding of each other, challenging biases, and addressing harmful behaviors transparently and constructively. We also strive to create opportunities for viewers to connect with one another and grassroots movement organizations to expand and deepen the impact of the FSTV community. Focus on Impact — We prioritize experience, skills, qualities, transparency, and equity in our hiring, promotions, and pay practices. We amplify movements for social and environmental justices by covering their events and broadcasting their messages and calls to action. We uplift storytellers by paying to license their content and distributing it to new audiences. We bring people together with common values to build power, and we connect viewers with opportunities to get closer to people with the influence like elected representatives to make fundamental changes. We aim to do at least one project per year that serves our home in Denver, Colorado. Put Money Back Into the Hands of the People — We aim to partner with vendors that are here in our local community and are either worker-owned and/or Black-, woman-, LGBTQ+, and/or Indigenous-led.
