Be careful when you hire a car from…

Be careful when you hire a car from this company.

Car delivered by non identified individual in a car park as there is no airport representation.

This is not a regular hire car... it is a car borrow scheme piggybacking onto a drive by the hour scheme.
IT setup for customer communication confusing and threatening (multiple emails received telling me my booking would be cancelled for non payment of deposit... it had been paid! Eventually found a number to contact the company who told me it was an ongoing error).

Person who delivered car was unidentified: no ID... just handed over keys and left. They never checked my documents/hire agreement.
Car was not well cleaned.

We cleaned the car on return, took photos as evidence. Another unidentified person took back the car, checked it, took photos and confirmed that everything was good.

Three months later my card is debited with €48 for 'cleaning fee'.

They cannot provide before and after pictures with time/ date stamps to back up their claim, but have taken payment in any case.

An absolute scam and abysmal costumer service.

Easy and uncomplicated car rental

We rented a car from them at Tirana Airport, booked a day earlier online via DiscoverCars (the free2move website was a little difficult to navigate, and multilingual for some reason). Pick up and drop off were uncomplicated and easy. They have good protocols in place for the bureaucratic stuff, they photograph the whole car, send you a report with the pictures etc... When we returned the car it was a little dirty because we couldn't find an open carwash (they want you to return it washed) but they said it was fine since it wasn't much. The staff was friendly and competent.

Beware of geographic limitations

Beware of geographic limitations - I used the car well within the districts in Vienna (close to the Lainer Tiergarten in Ober St. Veit) to then notice that I'm far outside of their geographical limitations. So instead of parking the car I had to drive back to where I just came from and then take a bus. Very inconvenient. The car itself was also fairly dirty. I raised this with customer support, and in their Germanic way, they referred to the Terms and Conditions which of course nobody looks at before you start the car. I've delete the app now and will use the car rentals from city of Vienna (google wienmobil auto).

I booked and fully paid for a rental car through Free2Move at Hertz Brussels Airport, and when I arrived, Hertz refused to give me the car because I didn’t have a flight ticket.

This condition was never clearly shown before payment — only hidden in small print after the booking was completed.
I had all the required documents (ID, driver’s licence, credit card, prepaid voucher), yet the rental was refused.

When I contacted Free2Move for help, they told me to “talk to Hertz,” even though I paid Free2Move directly. That’s not how consumer protection works — Free2Move should take responsibility for the service it sells, not pass the problem to someone else.

Very disappointing experience — lack of transparency, poor customer support, and no refund so far.
If you value your time and money, avoid Free2Move until they start treating customers honestly and take responsibility for their partners’ actions.

Excellent service

Excellent service! The car we were offered is really great. Cheyma welcomed us with professionalism and kindness. She took the time to explain everything clearly and answered all of our questions. Despite our delay due to traffic, she kindly waited for us beyond her working hours. A big thank you to her for her patience and thoughtfulness!

Scam outfit...AVOID

I rented a car in France in July 2025 for a pick up at Paris Beauvais airport. The rental office (kip) was off airport and the instructions from Freetomove upon landing were to call a local phone number for bus transfer. This is where the fiasco started with them. I was told told to go to a car park barrier and wait there for a bus...long story short this took hours to sort out. Then picked up a car that had a CV joint rattling for the entire rental period. Returned car at the end of my trip and was told that I was good to go.....until I got a €50 cleaning charge and a €35 service charge to my credit card over 2 months later...This company is a con job, a dodge, a scam outfit. Avoid at all costs and stay mainstream...Cheap for a reason!!!

The price is right

The price is right, and location is great. I was totally disappointed with check in! I pre-register for quick drop off and had to do all over again at arrival, almost missed my flight because the time and confusion. So what's the point of pre-register???

Absolutely the worst experience we have…

Absolutely the worst experience we have had with any car rental company across all of our travels.

Shocking customer service. Due to a booking change made by one of their customer service staff members, free2move ended up charging us more than double the quoted amount, and then refused to listen to their own telephone recording of the conversation to confirm, which we know IS there, as I even had to PRESS 1, to confirm that I agreed to the call being recorded!!!

VERY DISAPPOINTING

VERY DISAPPOINTING! At the airport the pick up instructions were sent while we were in flight so they didn't download at the airport. We finally found our car and the operator tried to charge me another £40. I refused to pay but was charged subsequently without my permission. The car was dirty inside and out. THEN 4 weeks after being home they have charged me £100 for cleaning inside and out the car and taken the payment without asking on the card I paid with for the booking on Kayak. I have emailed and 2 weeks on, I have still heard nothing. AVOID THESE CROOKS!!!!

AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE

AVOID
Worst experience with car hire I've ever had. Incredibly rude staff, unclear instructions about document upload and deposit payment ahead of time meant it took nearly two hours for us to get the car - and then were forced to pay a late charge. Car was only 38% charged when we received it. Would never ever use again.

Unhelpful and inflexible

Terribile Company. They don't tell you clearly where the cars are. You only have a one-hour window to pick up your car, and then it's made available to other people and you are charged a no-show fee. Absolutely to be avoided. Customer service is not helpful at all, despite being fully aware of the situation.

STAY AWAY

The quote for hiring a car in Germany for our 4 day trips to the the castles of Bavaria was by far the cheapest quote so we took it. Upon arrival at the airport there were no clear instructions as to where to collect the car. In addition, there were construction works in the car park so we wondered around for a good 45 minutes before we contact Free2move's customer service. We were collect a car but that our booking had expired. After explaining our situation, the customer service advisor said he would reinstate our booking and throw in some free hours by way of an apology. We collected our car and drove off. During our travels it became apparent that the car would not unlock or lock if there was no WiFi despite the website FAQ stating that all that was needed was bluetooth. We travelled way less than the 8,000kms included in the quote and returned the car as per our original booking (before it was due back). We then received a huge shock: Free2move took more than double the amount that was quoted off our credit card and has refused to look into this matter and resolve it. Will never use them again and would strongly warn others against falling for the 'cheap quote'
