Received expired (or replaced?) product

I bought a few Shea Moisture products from ForCurls in late 2021. I recently flipped one of the containers over, and noticed a half-erased expiration date ending with 2016. Upon closer inspection, the other container has the same expiration date, erased a bit more thoroughly. The products came with no security seal.

This makes me suspect one of two things may have happened:
1. I was sold products that expired 6 years ago, which seems unlikely, as even sealed & unopened natural organic hair products spoil after 3 years and shea butter starts smelling rancid. These products smelled perfumed, but not spoiled. If they are so old, however, they could be a health hazard.
2. The contents of old containers were replaced with a different product. What product? What's in it? I don't know. My hair and my scalp are not taking well to whatever is in there.

I'm open to other convincing explanations.
