Securely packaged. Dense plants.

Overall very happy with my plants.
Shipping had been rough with my package and the plants arrived very dirty (from soil spilling out), but otherwise completely unharmed.
They were securely packaged in a plastic frame, plants facing inward to avoid shipping damage, and pots enclosed in bags.

I bought 5 plants and all received were correct.

They all had minor cosmetic damage one would expect from a nursery: a few leaves nippled at, small rips or spots. I'd have been a bit bothered by it if the plants were sparse, but the 12cm potted plants I got are so dense! With plenty of healthy leaves and new growth on the way.
Given a bit of acclimation time and an up-potting, they'll be damage free stunners in no time.

Buy at your own risk

Pros:
I ordered several plants in October. The package arrived with free heat packs, and all plants were packed very securely. Shipping itself was handled well.

Cons:
Unfortunately, all plants arrived extremely overwatered. The ZZ plant was potted in a very dense soil mix that never dried out. Within the first month it started losing leaves. When I took it out of the pot on day 28, several rhizomes were already rotten. To be fair, I did receive a full refund for this plant. However, the remaining rhizomes continued to rot even after repotting into a much chunkier mix and withholding watering.

One philodendron arrived with damaged, “bitten-looking” lower leaves. At first I assumed it might be EFNs or damage from a past pest issue. I inspected this plant (and all others) every other day and didn’t see any pests. While still in quarantine, it started losing its lower leaves, but I thought nothing of it. I considered underwatering or low humidity. I have another philo of a similar type (not from this store) that was doing fine in a different spot. So I moved it to my other philo but it continued to lose leaves and newer leaves were coming out deformed and underdeveloped.
Eventually, on January 26, a severe thrips infestation became visible. This purchase was the most recent addition to my collection, and before that I had never had thrips on any of my plants. My other plants were not infested before. I had to toss the plant, as I didn’t have the mental capacity to deal with an infestation at the moment.

Overall:
Good packaging and customer support, but serious issues with overwatering, substrate quality, and plant health. I’d recommend improving soil mixes and more thorough pest checks before shipping. If a plant doesn't look good, please, don't ship it.

Thank you for the detailed feedback, and for acknowledging the secure packaging and heat packs. We’re also glad we could fully refund the ZZ plant under our 28-day guarantee.

A quick clarification on substrate: we ship plants exactly as we receive them from professional growers, in the original nursery pots and the same propagation/growing mix they’ve been rooted and developed in (often from very early stages). We don’t repot before shipping, because disturbing the root system right before transport increases stress and failure rates. That also means the “soil mix” you receive is the grower’s greenhouse mix, not something we changed or “potted up” ourselves.

On the “overwatered on arrival” concern: winter parcels are insulated and sealed for transit, which drastically reduces evaporation and can make any pot feel wetter when unpacked than it would under normal home airflow. ZZ plants are especially sensitive to cool, stagnant moisture; once rhizome tissue is affected, remaining sections can continue to decline even after repotting unless all compromised tissue is removed and conditions are kept stable.

On pests/thrips: we weren’t contacted about any pest suspicion at delivery or within the guarantee window, so we didn’t have a chance to assess the plant while the timeline was still clear and evidence could be documented. For your information: thrips don’t have a months-long “incubation.” Eggs hatch within days, and in typical indoor conditions thrips go through multiple generations within a few weeks. Because of that, a severe infestation only becoming clearly visible around January 26, roughly three months after an October delivery, is not something that can be reliably attributed to shipping from us. After that length of time, the more likely explanation is a later introduction (for example via another plant, cut flowers, supermarket herbs, open windows, or other everyday routes), and at minimum it becomes impossible to trace the origin with confidence. Making such claims after three months of receiving the plant is simply neither fair nor based in facts about these pests.

We absolutely understand how stressful pests are, and we’re sorry you had to deal with that. If anything looks off on arrival, including “bitten” leaves, deformation, or suspicion of pests, we ask our customers to message us immediately with photos. Early action makes the biggest difference, and we’re always happy to help (as we did with the ZZ plant, where we offered a refund/replacement within the covered period).

Update: fantastic customer service!

I ordered an Alocasia heterophylla during the summer. It came looking okay-ish but started to go downhill fast. It then died within a week. I reached out to Foliage Factory seeking advice on how to save my plant, but they never responded. Based on my experience, I am hesitant to order again.

Well... Foliage Factory reached out to me. There was a communication mishap that led to a missed email, and a bit of mistrust on my side. We cleared up the misunderstanding and they even refunded me! I was not expecting this, especially four months after my purchase.

This is great because now I probably will order from them again and they have a huge selection.

In your original email you mentioned Alocasia heterophylla arrived with multiple healthy leaves, and that it was repotted into a smaller pot shortly after arrival. With Alocasia, that early root disturbance right after transport can trigger a very fast decline, because the fine feeder roots are easy to damage and the plant is already adjusting to a new environment. For that reason, our 28-day guarantee requires keeping plants in the original pot and substrate during the guarantee period, so we can troubleshoot without adding extra stress factors.

If you’re willing, please reach out again and we’ll pick this up properly to help with realistic recovery advice for what’s left.

I had a problem with the delivery of the flowers, and I wrote to them that it had arrived damaged. They were very kind and within 3-4 days the new flower arrived completely free of charge.

Beautiful plants and excellent customer service

Had a great time ordering several tropical houseplants from Foilage-factory.com. All but one arrived in great condition. After contacting customer service, I quickly got detailed help nursing the plant back to full health. Never experienced such service before! I also want to highlight the excellent blogposts/guides on the Foilage-factory.com website. They are incredibly well written, probably the best i've found on the internet and completely for free!

10/10 experience

The plants that I ordered were shipped very fast and arrived in great condition although the Carrier kind of „squished“ the package but the plants were packaged nicely so nothing happened to them. ☺️ I had to send a Message to the customer service to ask a question regarding one plant that I actually didn’t order (no complaint though!) and the reply came almost immediately, which was super helpful and now I get to keep the plant without any hassle. Thank you again Jan!
Overall 10/10 experience for me. I‘ll definitely order again soon. The plants also have a great size, healthy roots and I cannot wait to see them grow!

Bad plants, service & communication

Most plants arrived in bad shape - mold, rot, bugs & pests. No reply for days, so I repotted them to stop the spread. Refund only possible if returned in “original soil & pot” and arriving in “acceptable” condition, which was impossible.

They flagged my previous long detailed review 4 times. I had to submit evidence and fight AGAIN and AGAIN just to share my bad experience. Hopefully this one stays up long enough to help other buyers.

DO NOT RECOMMEND!!!
