Several years ago we set out to create the language-learning program we had always wanted for ourselves. In the eight years since then we’ve handcrafted seven language programs, each one individually tailored to the needs of real learners. We spent all that time carving a unique path through each language to allow English-speakers to learn better and faster. While teaching Mandarin as if it was Spanish is very common, it wasn't good enough for us. Languages are the result of billions of conversations over hundreds, even thousands of years. This is the complexity that makes them beautiful and which tempts so many of us to take up the challenge of learning them. Of course it’s possible to play with an App and pick up a few words, but to actually retain enough Spanish to ask questions, give and receive directions, and have a conversation in a real setting takes a lot more than that. It takes a great teacher, the kind who leads, inspires, and challenges us to fluency. Conveying the magic of a great one-on-one tutorial in a digital program begins by placing the tutor at the center of learning—even on the iPhone. For those who really want to learn, our great teachers, our great explanations, and the way each language is carefully taught can make all the difference in the world. And that's what inspires our work. One more thing. While engaging, beautiful design is often dismissed as irrelevant in education, we beg to differ.

Great language learning system

The design of this system is excellent. Each lesson is a brief intro, conversation, detailed explanation of the conversation, and many, varied exercises. The rate and order of presentation of new concepts was perfect for me. The explanations were very clear. The exercises kept me engaged and worked: after each lesson the vocabulary and concept stuck with me.
I took Italian 1, 2, and 3 before going to Italy, and my ability to express my and my friends' questions and needs went far to improve our experience. Surprisingly, my listening skills were not as good as my speaking skills, so I think that some supplemental listening exercises would be a nice addition.
This was definitely worth the money!

Fluenz Spanish !

I have completed level 1, Spanish 1. I have been using the program for 15 weeks and have learned a lot. I enjoy the format and methodology being used to help me learn. If you follow along and proceed as the lessons are presented, I found that I have been able to retain more than I thought I would.
So far I feel very confident using what I have learned to date, and I will continue using the program to improve my Spanish speaking and understanding.
For me the Fluenz program is very positive and I would recommend it to anyone looking to improve their Spanish.

The best language program/course I have seen

I have been VERY impressed and pleased with Fluenz. Very well thought out. Each lesson is just the right size to keep you progressing without feeling overwhelmed. The drill studies are excellent for solidifying vocabulary and learning a variety of usage. EXCELLENT COURSE!

Excellent way of learning a language

I am learning German and Italian.
I spent many, but many hours trying to learn German using Rosetta Stone, and it was impossible. The structure of the language is very difficult and I could never get it. I would say that I wasted many hours. I am sorry I didn't know about Fluenz.
In Fluenz the instruction sessions are very good and the practice sessions very helpful.
When I am not at home, then I usually go on line and do the session. This is an excellent way. This is also a great advantage over Rosetta Stone which doesn't allow us, as regular users, to consult on line.
I think that reading and listening are very important. I would like to have more reading material. Like short stories.

Fluenz is a great program for when you're traveling abroad.

I have tried many different language courses and Fluenz I thought was a simple course that can be done at any time during my free time. I just spent an hour a day on each lesson and it helped me to learn a lot. Fluenz is pretty similar to Rosetta Stone, but it also has some differences. Fluenz is a good program is you are traveling abroad.

My Story

I have been working through the program for about 3 months. I have found it very user friendly and appropriate for my level (beginner). I enjoy the interactive approach. I plan to visit Mexico again in the relatively near future and hope by then to be able to make myself understood in most everyday activities.

This is excellent but I Fluenz would have added one more thing....

This is a very good program, better than most self taught language courses.
I like that Fluenz takes you right to the spot where you left off. I like the way new vocabulary is introduced and reintroduced in later lessons so you don't forget the previous words while learning new ones. The grammar interspersed with the exercises instead of a list of rules to learn makes it easy to learn the language structure
The only thing I would change is, when trying to pronounce the words in a long sentence I wish the "backward build up" method would be used. I have found this to be an almost magic way of being able to master a difficult set of words. For those not familiar with this method, you start with pronouncing the last word in the sentence. Then you say the next to the last word and the last word again each time you add the next word until you have gotten to the beginning of the sentence. It is remarkable how the sentence seems to flow after you have done this. I wish in the pronunciation part of the exercises you do this. It is very helpful.

FLuenz Parts 1 and 2

So far, the course has been very good. It is exactly as advertised and the lessons are well done. I have tried to keep going at a rate of 4 or 5 lessons biweekly. I am not yet ready to take on French speaking only but have learned enough to understand the writing ok. I am still planning to go to a French city where I can be immersed and try to become more able to communicate with French speakers.

Best video software program I have used.

Fluenz provides a dialogue with each practice and also includes a variety of new words and grammar along with review in a variety of exercises that support learning. Language acquisition is also supported with direct teaching and support on video clips inbedded in each lesson. Language acquisition is thankfully NOT immersion without instruction. Fluenz creators and instructors understand that Immersion is not effective in the context of a stand alone instruction program. Fluenz provides instruction and practice in careful measure.
Thank you Fluenz!

Excellent Teaching Poor Technical

Teaching methods are excellent.. but the technical support is poor and makes it difficult to access the material in most browsers... Firefox no way.. will not work.. Chrome .. sometimes.. so we at a lose... it is on and off... should of given it 2.5 stars ...
