A virus in a machine can be very stubborn to efficient functionality of a computer. In the recent past, my computer got infected with a virus that could make it restart anytime without sending a notification. In most cases especially for typing work, could be forced to start the work afresh since it would completely disappear from the saved icons and at sometimes get deleted permanently in my PC. My mother bought a rather high priced computer a couple years ago with the express purpose of playing little Publishers Clearing House games on it.
