I booked an infant car seat for up to 12 months-old, but on arrival in Athens they only had a forward-facing toddler seat for 15+ months. Unsafe and not what I booked. I had no choice but to buy a new... See more

Very rude staff don't know how to talk to customers.
Charge me extra had pay because it was late i needed the car they take your advantage.
Rude staff
I recently rented a vehicle from Europcar, and I must say it was one of the most frustrating experiences I've had with a car hire company.
Firstly, the staff at the location were very rude and non-cooperative. When I arrived to pick up my vehicle, I encountered a lack of professionalism that was shocking. Instead of receiving assistance, the staff seemed disinterested and dismissive, making the entire process uncomfortable and stressful.
The pick-up process itself was disorganized and took much longer than expected. I had to wait an excessive amount of time, which was compounded by the staff's unhelpful attitude.
Additionally, the car I received was not in great condition. It had visible damage that wasn’t properly documented, and the cleanliness left much to be desired.
Overall, my experience with Europcar was disappointing. I expected better service and support, especially given their reputation. I would not recommend this company based on my experience.
Changed the car in the last minute…
Changed the car in the last minute without notice. Dissapointed
A dangerous car to drive.
I was given a different car than the one I chose. The car was in a terrible conditions and dangerous to drive with the wheels being extremely old and slippery. The petrol was not full when I picked up the car as promised and the car was dirty and full of marks.
Also customer service was rude and always had to wait a few minutes to get hold of them.
I recommend them
very kind, attentive to the customer. they waited for us beyond the established time. I recommend them. thanks guys.
Avoid this scamming company when you go…
Avoid this scamming company when you book through Expedia, Booking.com or any third party avoid choosing them.
Our experience on the 26th June was nasty this is borderline scamming tourists there aren't ashamed
Who has 2500 Euros in Greece 😄 to pay as deposit, charging people extra insurance for nothing really ??
DO NOT RENT A CAR HERE
This is unrealistic
Excellent customer service
The car was in great working condition and came at an good price. When we returned the vehicle, we had a quick question about the contract, as there was a photo showing a pre-existing damage. Aimilia, who assisted us, was incredibly helpful and clarified everything for us right away. She was extremely kind and professional. Highly recommended
Worst rental experience I've ever had
Worst rental experience I've ever had. I strongly recommend finding a different company to rent from.
The service was terrible. I was charged extra fees for getting a flat tire, even though I had purchased the "zero excess insurance." On top of that, I received a car from a completely different price class than the one I paid for.
I booked through Europcar.com, but they claimed the reservation was made via a broker. As a result, the "additional driver" I had already paid for was not included. After some discussion, they eventually agreed to honor it - but they were not honoring anything. I had already paid for it.
The credit card that I used when booking, could not be used when arriving for pick up, since it had to be the main drivers credit card. This was not stated when booking the car, and in your booking confirmation it states "Credit card used for this booking in the name of the main driver". Thus, I was not able to pay the deposit with the credit card used for the booking since it with a credit card that wasn't the main drivers card. The main driver did not have a credit card - but a debit card - but then we had to pay 170 EUR to use that one. We asked them to change the main driver, but this was not an option, since they claimed it was booked via a "broker".
It was an absurd situation, especially considering we booked directly through their website.
The service was non-existent, and the staff at the branch showed no understanding of our situation. We arrived in the evening, and at 22:50 after discussing forth and back they told us they were closing in 10 minutes—despite the fact that their official closing time was 23:30. Yet another lie.
In the end, we had to pay the additional €170 fee for each of the two cars we booked to get the cars. We had no alternative.
The car we received was in a completely different price class than what we paid for—worth about half the value of the selected model. Had I known this, I would never have paid a premium for a better car. I would have just chosen the cheaper option.
I have submitted a claim to the company and they have not shown any understanding of the situation. Actually they only made it was by lying in their answer to the claim. They claim that the card you use - when paying for the booking online - is only for verification purposes. It is not. That is the card that have paid the bookings.
All in all, we felt scammed and. I strongly advise you to rent a car from anywhere else.
Rude service
I’ve rented from Europcar in other EU countries many times and was always satisfied. But Europcar Greece delivered the worst car rental experience I’ve ever had, and I feel obligated to warn other travelers.
I booked a car via Booking.com (June 4, 2025) with all standard documents: a physical Visa credit card issued by Revolut, passport, and driver’s license. Upon arrival in Athens, the Europcar desk refused my card, claiming Revolut cards aren't accepted for the deposit — something that was never mentioned during the booking process. The policy they referred to is buried on their own website but not included in the Booking.com rental terms, which I was given.
Their staff were rude, impatient, and completely unhelpful, even as I stood there with my wife and young child. I explained that I couldn’t cancel the booking without losing money and asked for support. Instead, they pressured me into buying full insurance (€388.91) to "allow" the use of the same card they just rejected — and then charged a €290 deposit to it anyway, contradicting their earlier excuse.
Since then, I’ve sent multiple emails to Europcar Greece, trying to resolve the issue. Their replies were nothing but standard copy-paste answers, full of contradictions and zero willingness to help or take responsibility. Even after proving that no Revolut restriction was shown at booking, they just closed the case and refused a refund.
This has been a fraudulent and deeply frustrating experience, and I will now proceed with formal complaints through Booking.com, consumer protection authorities, and my credit card provider.
If you’re booking with Europcar Greece, be extremely careful. If anything goes wrong, you will be left completely alone — no real customer service, no accountability, and no honesty. I strongly recommend avoiding them.
Helpful English speaking rep
Clear instructions and clean car- no fuss.Helpful English lady on desk.
Could have been given better brief on how to locate the site- it is a couple of hundred yards outside the airport ( Booked through Booking.com)Easy walk but you need to know where it is!
AVOID - the 3/4 tank scam
The queque for collection at the airport desk took an hour, although only 4 couples in front. No explanation or apology. The agent tried to force me to take additional excess cover citing a EURO1300 excess -not as per their booking details. The car was handed over '6/8 full', the latest scam of car hire companies given refilling to that exact measure almost impossible. Again booking details cite 'full to full'.
On returning the vehicle, the tank was full and the car with no damages. I was told there would be an additional cleaning charge - no reason given when the car was virtually clean. I then asked for the excess fuel to be repaid to me but 'policy' is they keep the overages, of course. Eventually the cleaning fee was waived. Apparently the deposit takes 5 to 25 days to return. Yep, they don't return the interest they take in that period on your (ie not their) money.
Europcar Greece no longer worth the hassle
I held off writing a bad review as I have generally received good service in the last 4 years of using Euopcar Greece over some 20 or so bookings, however the real measure and test of a company is when you need to engage customer service and see how much they care to provide that service.
In short, Europcar Greece now charge an arbitrary Credit Card Fee for Amex of 20 EUR inc VAT which they just "announced". They have said that users are informed of this when booking - they are not as my booking said the exact amount to pay and said all Credit Cards are welcome, and they state that this is a published policy - it is not and no one can point you to this at all.
I wrote to Customer service as apparently the store staff cant remove this charge as the "system adds it", not the person clicking it in the store. I wrote not to ask for a refund but to request the written policy and some other fair questions on when it was introduced and why existing bookings were being amended. They have ignored this email.
When I called customer service the agent wrapped himself in knots trying to explain that it was written down but he couldn’t send it to me. In the end he conceded this is not a written policy but that I needed to write to them. Cue a Kafkaesque conversation. What a joke.
Companies that hold you to ransom at the check out counter are not worth it at all and sadly now Europcar Greece fall into that category.
The cars are good and maintained and the staff in the shop nice. Such a shame that the corporate side of the company are not quite up to the same standard. Europcar were first on my list to check and rent with but no longer will be.
Excellent agency
We picked up our car at the Karpathos airport (AOK) from the station manager Vangelis Roditakis. He was probably the most professional, competent, and nicest car rental agent I have ever worked with. He went out of his way to assure that our visit was perfect. I could not recommend this agency more highly. The car was clean, well maintained, and we had no problems during the week rental.
Additional fees secretly added
Booked an electric car to pickup from the airport via a third party website (all fees included) with Keddy by Europcar. Upon arriving to collect the car from the Airport, additional fees were added without the staff member discussing them first - a cleaning fee and an electric car refuel fee. When I later queried these fees I was told they are mandatory in the Terms & Conditions, yet they weren't quoted in the initial price of the car.
Poor aftercare!
Still trying to get in contact with office. The documentation of the damage has not been sent to my email. No phone call received as was promised and still require my deposit back. Customer service contact form on website is useless. Have been waiting for more than three weeks for a response now.
Excellent Service and Amazing Staff
Excellent Service and Amazing Staff
I had a great experience renting from Europcar in Heraklion. The car was in perfect condition, clean and ready on time, but what really made the difference was the staff. Everyone was extremely friendly, professional, and genuinely willing to help. They explained everything clearly and made me feel very welcome. Their kindness and efficiency turned a simple car rental into a truly pleasant start to my trip. Highly recommended!
Great team service
Amazing service from the team at Europcar Kalamata. Drop off and pick up were very smooth and they were also great when I needed to call them for advice. Whilst not “on airport”, you can see the Europcar signs from the arrivals terminal and it is a very short walk- they even had someone at the airport to point the way! Great work, thanks all!

Reply from Europcar Greece

They charged me 900 euros for the full…
They charged me 900 euros for the full replacement of a windshield !!! A small impact we were absolutely not aware and responsible for !!! Instead of trying to fix it like every company like Carglass would do for 50 euros , they charged us 900 euros for full replacement !!!! And guess what …despite taking the mid range insurance , Europcar Mykonos don’t even propose a full insuring covering glass and windshields ! Such a shame ! One thing is sure … I will never rent a car with Europcar anymore … first time I did it but I will continue with Sixt next time . Very pour way to end holidays
Prepaid rental ignored. Car not received. Money lost.
Car pick-up online booking made after business hours (23:30 vs. 23:00) due to late flight arrival. EUROPCAR CHQ Chania Airport manager alerted via phone and declared: "You cannot retrieve the car because you will not find anyone or come next day."
Next morning the same office landline was strangely not responsive as from 07:00am published office opening, despite succesive attempts. When reporting in person at 10am same manager ignored the original booking and asked for double the rate for a new rental notwithstanding still within the original rental day (less than 12 hours).
No way of course we would have accepted such practice not fitting a global brand as EUROPCAR.
Result rental fee lost: EUR38 (24 hours rental due funeral attendance). Lesson learned though.
==========================================
MONZA next door walking from Chania airport terminal promptly offered a car for a nominal rate EXCESS INCLUDED as opposed to the excess exclusive EUROPCAR rate.
Moreover, MONZA are next door walking from CHQ airport terminal as opposed to Europcar requiring a shuttle. Monza welcoming professional team made the difference and saved the honor of Cretan Filotimo.
When renting cars in Chania, Crete go to MONZA.
