I booked an infant car seat for up to 12 months-old, but on arrival in Athens they only had a forward-facing toddler seat for 15+ months. Unsafe and not what I booked. I had no choice but to buy a new... See more

very disappointing last night Europcar…
very disappointing last night Europcar didn't deliver the car to me at 2am having two tired little kids waiting, apparently your company block my profile due a dispute with one of your employee in the cabin a month ago but this is totally rejected and unacceptable, this is my first attempt for a resolution before I take you to the court and I am not joking.
First of all your employee should be fired due her attitude against me forcing me to pay a parking fee while I was there to renew a contract with you, she didn’t let me to go out from your parking but forced me to go out from the paid one, this was triggered my justify upset.
Second, you stoled my Odos Attiki device after I returned my last car, once I asked you by email to check for it in my rental car your employee used it twice in the motorway, I have the electronic proof and also I got the confirmation from Odos Attiki, this is stealing.
Third, last time you block my account despite you confirmed my booking, you let me waiting 1 hour in the queue at 2am with two little kids tired for telling me “sorry your profile is blocked”! You don’t confirm a booking in advance if you don’t give a car, you don’t do at last minute forcing me to rent a more expensive car elsewhere!
I am not seeking legal compensations
Avoid this car rental company in Rhodes
Avoid this car rental company in Rhodes. My experience was very disappointing. They took up almost half a day of my vacation, even though I had booked the car in advance.
When I decided to cancel, they initially refused to refund my money, even though I had never received the car. After a lot of discussion and several hours of waiting, I finally got my money back.
I found the staff unfriendly, and the information I received was contradictory. On top of that, they wanted to charge me additional fees that would have made the total cost almost twice the price I had originally booked.
Do yourself a favor and go across the street to J&D Rent a Car instead. My experience there was like night and day. The staff were friendly and professional, the process was quick and smooth, and a more comprehensive insurance policy was included without the high deductible that Europcar offered me. The customer experience at J&D Rent a Car was outstanding by comparison.
Unfortunately, based on my own experience, I cannot recommend Europcar.
Avoid this company at all costs
Avoid this company at all costs! A franchise that is a disgrace to the brand name! The depot is not at the airport so you have to call and request pick up, to which they act like you are an inconvenience. Then they make it a point to stress that their T&Cs are not the same as any other Europcar brand, weird! They will then put you in a “better, upgraded car” at no extra cost. Well it turns out they just pick one that is clearly on its way out. We were only taking the car for 48hrs so didn’t think too much to the fact it was not driving all that well. Then everything went downhill when you have a breakdown. This company will leave you stranded, there is no breakdown information in the car, you call the branch and they give you a number to call… it was the insurance company! Thankfully someone offered to help translate to find this out but the insurance company just transferred them to the leasing company and back again. After nearly 2hrs we finally got the recovery agents number. When it comes to the end of the rental there was no apology for the issues, no apology or care that we were all stranded late at night and they made a mistake to tell us to call the insurance company! They are exceptionally rude, blaming us for mechanical damage, the “full protection” you purchase only covers cosmetic damage, well if you rent a car from these scammers make sure you’re a qualified mechanic who is able to strip the car down to the chassis and inspect the lot because they will make you responsible for ALL damage any previous renter has caused to that car!! Reporting them to the ECRCS!
Terrible experience with very rude…
Terrible experience with very rude staff at Zakynthos airport.
They refused to let me a car after I prepaid in full the money for renting car and I left with a loss of 160 pounds. They said is because I have no credit card but on the booking confirmation it’s stated I can pay the deposit with the payment card used when making the booking
The staff was really rude with my pregnant wife and they refused to let her sit on a desk and at a moment they even refused to let us leave. These people should not be employed and I will file a official complaint as I lost my money and freedom for a time because the staff locked us in their premises
Absolutely gobsmacked by my experience…
Absolutely gobsmacked by my experience returning a hire car at the Rhodes office.
During the return inspection, the staff member immediately got down on the floor and started taking photos of the underside of the vehicle with her phone before accusing me of causing scratches underneath the car. Given that I had filmed and photographed the vehicle myself, I knew this wasn’t damage I had caused.
What made the situation even more concerning was that the underside of the vehicle was never shown to me or photographed in my presence when I collected the car. Yet somehow, this hidden area was the first place inspected on return.
After a lengthy discussion, the staff member eventually acknowledged that the damage was already there before my rental. I was then told that the company takes photographs of the underside of vehicles but doesn’t share them with customers.
Seriously, what kind of process is that?
If you’re documenting areas of a vehicle for potential damage claims, customers should be given access to those photographs from the outset. Trying to attribute damage in areas customers were never shown is completely unacceptable.
In the end, the accusation was unfounded, but the whole experience left a very sour taste. What should have been a simple vehicle return became an unnecessary and stressful confrontation.
I would strongly advise anyone hiring here to take comprehensive videos and photographs of every inch of the vehicle and get on your hands and knees to do underneath before driving away. Read the other reviews. Appears this is a normal scam from these guys!
Line to pick up the keys
Line to pick up the keys: 1hr15min.
Employee: in a non apologetic tone :'you should see in a month or so, it will be 2 hours wait time'
I made a reservation via booking + full insurance.
Employee: no, you're not covered so I took a 'medium' insurance (44€) to discover back home that I was well completely covered.
Car: no water in the tank, not a full gas tank, ...
conclusion : cheap but you get what you pay for. Last time with Europcar
Ps: same sort of experience in Lisbon 2 years ago.
Avoid at all costs
Avoid at all costs - The car broke down. Road Assistance picked up the car and I stayed 3 days without a car. I was chasing them to either get a replacement or a refund. I 've contacted multiples time the support which it was quite impossible to get hold off them. Someone from the airport branch named 'Ilias' said he was going to process my claim - I've sent multiple follow up and emails but nothing happened really. So not only I had no car but I incurred massive extra costs using cabs and taxis. Avoid Europe Car Greece 100%
Good experience
I had a great experience with Europcar at kalamata airport renting a Fiat Panda May 2026 for two weeks. The cost (booked in advance) was reasonable, 24 hour recovery and assistance was included in the basic price, collection and return were well managed and the vehicle itself was all in good order. On arrival at the airport there was a staff member to meet and greet, then I walked around 100m to their compound immediately adjacent to collect the vehicle (with an almost full tank of fuel). Return was also straightforward, with no unwarranted charges.
Very disappointing and disturbing experience with Europcar Thessaloniki Airport.
On 23 May 2026 at approximately 13:41 Cyprus time, my wife contacted the Thessaloniki Airport office to request information and a quotation for renting a car in Greece and travelling to North Macedonia. Since border crossing requires additional documentation, we simply needed professional guidance from the rental office.
My wife politely greeted the employee in Greek and explained our travel plans. However, the moment the employee heard the words “North Macedonia,” his behavior changed completely. Instead of assisting us, he began making political and nationalist comments, stating that “there is only one Macedonia and it is Greek” and insisting that the country should be called “Skopje.”
This was entirely inappropriate, discriminatory, and unrelated to customer service. My wife calmly explained that this was not a political discussion and requested to speak to a manager. The employee, who identified himself as Apostolos, responded that we could complain to anyone and that he did not care, before abruptly hanging up the phone.
As a Greek Cypriot myself, I found this incident particularly embarrassing and disappointing. Personal political opinions should never interfere with customer service, especially within an international company.
This type of behavior damages the reputation of the Europcar brand and creates the impression that customers may be treated differently based on nationality or political sensitivities. I sincerely hope Europcar investigates this incident seriously and takes appropriate action.
Avoid europcar at all costs
Avoid europcar at all costs. You would be better walking 100 miles with all your cases than using these scamming xon artists.
We paid the full price in the uk and checked everything and printed out every document but when.we getbto kos europcar they have different paperwork you cant see or print monthly can then scam you out doiluble the original price. We paid 3 times as much in the end for a week amd they want almost a thousand pound deposit.
They were well reversed in this scam and knew exactly how to take advantage of someone who has just landed in a foreign country with no transfer as we cancled it.
Our car was smaller as they said they had ran out, but we made the booking through jet2 and theybsaid take it up with them.
So they can take another 1 and a half thousand from me but cant refund a single penny.
They are professional con men.
They ruin people's holidays and are threatening and rude and they speak treat ladies worse than they would a dog on the street with rabies.
There words are 'we can help you, but you need to payout this amount, and you can take a car' there were 3 other family's with people crying with the same.thing happening as they couldn't afford to do it, lost there original money and had no.transfer and had to pay for a mini bus taxi for 80 euros to get to there hotel.
They are horrible people and if it was in the uk, they would be on crime watch or rogue traders bcos thats exactly what they are. I wishbi could give less than 1 star. They deserve minus starts for everything apart from full stars for ripping of vulnerable people.
Do not use this company a total con
Can i leave less than 1 star? DO NOT use this company. Absolutely terrible service. We booked through Jet2 so they were totally unhelpful and told us to cancel our booking through them when we arrived and they needed €850 additionally and wouldnt take our card. We couldnt cancel the original booking as of course they have a 24 hour cancellation policy and we are now in Greece missed our free transfer and need a car. So our choice was to loose the money we had paid for the booking or of course the only'help' they could offer us was by upgrading our booking at a huge additional cost that was over double the additional cost of the car. We booked a car for ease after a period of serious illness and added huge stress to the holiday experience. Staff were incredibly rude and dismissive. There are so many other car hire companies at the airport avoid Europcar at all costs.
Very disappointing experience with this…
Very disappointing experience with this rental company. I rented a car from this well known company believing its safe.
However, noticed clutch problems immediately during the first drive. The next day, the clutch failed completely and the car was no longer usable (at this point I did drive only from the airport to the hotel about 60km). Instead of taking responsibility for a pre-existing mechanical issue, they try to charge me for the damage saying, I broke it on purpose.
I would advise future customers to skip this rental office. When renting a car, carefully inspect the vehicle, document any problems immediately, and make sure all issues are reported in writing.
Based on my experience, customer service and fairness in handling this case were poor.
Bad behaviour of employee
After booking a car the previous day through DiscoverCars and purchasing the full extra insurance package — which cost almost as much as the car rental itself — I arrived at Athens Airport to pick up the vehicle.
There was an employee at the desk who informed me that I needed a credit card instead of a debit card. To be fair, I had not noticed this condition when making the booking. However, as someone who rents cars very frequently for business trips using a debit card, I never imagined this would be such a major issue.
The employee told me that I could still rent the car with a debit card, as long as I purchase the full insurance package. That is where the whole unpleasant experience began.
I explained that I had already purchased the extra insurance, and she replied in a very rude tone that “this is from a third-party website and does not count — you have to buy it again.” She even implied that it was my fault for booking through a third-party platform.
I told her that if they disagree with this practice, then they should not list their cars on such platforms. A customer simply searches on Google and books a car; they may not even realize whether the insurance is offered by Europcar or DiscoverCars. Also, if the company has issues with the policies of its partners who sell additional insurance, those matters should be resolved between the companies — not at the expense of the customer, who ends up paying twice.
I explained that I found it unfair to pay again, but that I would still do it because I needed the car to get to work. I also mentioned that I intended to write about this experience on a review platform so that future customers would be aware before booking. At that point, she accused me of “threatening” her and said that she could refuse to give me the car if she wanted.
This was the first example of bullying behavior toward a customer who had spoken politely the entire time, never raised his voice, never insulted anyone, and was simply trying to defend his position with reasonable arguments.
As the process continued and she entered my details into the system, she noticed that I had previously rented from Europcar through another platform. Ironically, she laughed and said: “Ha, the platform you booked through last year has gone bankrupt”.
I replied: “Why are you telling me this? It's your companies responsibility to check the third parties that it cooperate with and be more careful to ensure it chooses partners that are reliable.”
At that point she started shouting and said: “I’m not serving you. Leave.”
Again, this was directed at a customer who had not been offensive, aggressive, or loud. Despite the fact that I had already paid for the rental and she had already confirmed there was a way to proceed, she effectively punished me simply because I responded with an obvious and reasonable comment.
When I asked for her name — something she is legally required to provide — she mocked me and gave a sarcastic fake name instead.
If your car is to be collected after 9pm you will be charged €60 out.of hours charge
We booked our holiday including hire car through Jet2, so Jet2 booked the car.
The collection.time was 9.15pm.
With.all the kerfuffle these days with passport control taking an age to.get through (it took.us 45 minutes. We arrived at Europcar at 9.22 the process was quite fast but I was never run through the controls of the car. Told to.take a picture.of the fuel gauge to show them when I return the car, plus any damage that was in the car as it was dark.
Then I was asked for €60 for out.of hours fee. Firstly as the car was booked for 9.15pm ( is this something the late fee had to be.paid ?) Nowhere.on the.paperwork I received from Jet2 stated anything about this charge.
When I challenged Jet2 they fobbed me off saying I would have to speak to Europcar....some hope of them refunding me.
Luckily I booked this holiday through my travel agent. He is refunding me the charge.
So be warned, if you have a hire car booked here be sure to have an earlier booking but it obviously depends on.what time your flight lands or take the chance maybe and walk in off the street for a car that might work.
Use someone else
Our pick up service was brilliant, even though we did have to wait for collection and to be driven to the office off site from the airport. Car was great, I chose Europcar as I wanted to use a reputable company to avoid hidden charges.
When we got back however there was a dispute over the fuel level. The gauge would only read just below full despite me brimming the tank. I was told I either had to put more fuel in before dropping off or pay the penalty charge. I drove to Shell about a 10 minute drive away, and squeezed 3 EUR back into the tank but the needle still didn't move. I showed them the receipt to prove it, then it took a while to check the car for damage. The worst part however was the shuttle back to the airport where the driver told us that he hated tourists! He told us his house has no water or electric in the summer "because of tourists". He then cut up another hire car driven by a female and said "Roads should be for Greeks as tourists are all bad drivers".
We had a 10 day stay in Rhodes, ruined by the last 1 hour. We won't be using Europcar in Greece again.
I booked and fully prepaid an Audi Q3…
I booked and fully prepaid an Audi Q3 through Booking.com for pickup at Athens Airport on 04.04.2026.
When I arrived at the Europcar desk:They did not have the car I paid for.
The staff deliberately stalled at the counter for 10-15 minutes, then told me to wait another 45 minutes to "to wash the car".
Eventually they offered me a Ford Kuga instead — a car that is 2.5–3 times cheaper on the market and much lower in class and comfort.
This is not a simple delay.
This is a failure to provide the service I paid for. I refused the inferior car and had to cancel the booking.
Now booking.cim and Europcar refusing to give a refund.
As a result, I wasted over an hour at the airport, experienced a lot of stress, and my work plans were disrupted.
Europcar clearly overbooks large cars they cannot deliver.
Very disappointing experience.
I will never rent from Europcar again, especially in Athens.

Ripped off!! No deposit returned.
I hired a car in march and was told my 260 euro deposit would be returned after 4 business days. 30 business days later, I am STILL waiting. No response to emails; nothing. They ignore Whatsapp messages about this.
Utterly shocking. I would highly recommend looking elsewhere for a car rental. Go for a LOCAL company which is locally owned and operated instead that does not require a deposit. In fact, as I had FULL insurance, I should not have needed to even pay a deposit!! I transited through Athens recently and went to enquire as to why I still didn't have my deposit. They said it HAD been released. My bank however said, they had no deposit at all that had gone through my account. I now have to get a Greek friend involved to help me as I am not a Greek and don't live there! BAD experience! DO NOT HIRE FROM THESE PEOPLE!!
Rental in Athens
Everything over was fine service and solid car.
Unfortunately damage at receival on back door was present. The pointed was initially highlighted unfortunately during return, I was blamed causing it. End of paying such damage. This is not good Customer care & fair treatment.
