The process was fairly easy and straightforward, well structured and thorough explained — which makes it all the more disappointing to then be bombarded during the following week with invitations to complete my application, which made me begin to wonder if it had all gone through!

This was my first time to purchase via Ethex. I am not normally an internet shopper ( except train fares) not am I usually an investor.
I bought a shared in Kent Community Energy roof top solar. I was impressed that the site had lots of information and I was quizzed on it before being allowed to purchase. I only passed third attempt, having just skimmed read first time! But it is good that they ensure that you understand what you are buying and the financial implications

A betrayal of their name
The name Ethex clearly implies an ethical stance, and yet this platform refuses to change to an ethical bank, making a mockery of its own name. The bank they use, Barclays, is the fourth largest bank funder of fossil fuels in Europe, seventh largest bank funder of fossil fuels in the world. It's a contradiction in terms to fund renewable energy projects using Barclays, funds which continue supporting the very fossil fuel companies that are destroying the planet. GET AN ETHICAL BANK, ETHEX.

Thank you for taking the time to share your concerns here and for your email correspondence with our team on this matter. We genuinely understand and respect them. The question of where money is held and the impact that has is an important one, and something we also think about a lot.
To be completely transparent: the reason investor funds currently pass through a Barclays account is not a values-based choice, but a regulatory requirement.
Our payments provider, ShareIn, is a small FCA-regulated organisation, and, as such, the client money we manage during an investment raise must be held briefly in a very specific type of account (a “client money account”) to comply with FCA regulations. Only a very small number of banks offer these, and unfortunately, the more ethical banks we admire and already use ourselves at Ethex, such as Triodos, Co-op Bank and Unity Trust Bank, are currently unable to provide that type of regulated account for ShareIn.
We want to be clear that we wholeheartedly share your ethical concerns. If there were a suitable ethical alternative available today, we would move to it. Our payment services provider, ShareIn, actively reviews other options in the market and is in ongoing conversations to try to find a viable solution that meets the regulatory requirements. If an ethical bank begins offering the necessary client money facilities, we will prioritise making that change.
We’re truly sorry that this situation can feel at odds with our mission. Our intention is always to enable more investment into organisations tackling the climate crisis and strengthening communities, and we never want our operational constraints to undermine that purpose. We appreciate you holding us to account on this.

For future reference, you can view the details of interest paid to you under the "Cash Transactions" section within the "Statements" area of your account. In reference to the investments you mention for which you’ve not yet received interest, this is because they were recent purchases. Interest payments for these will be scheduled for late 2025, while others are due in 2026.

We understand your frustration, as the exact amount available in cash may not be known until existing shares or investments are sold.
Unfortunately, to avoid delays in ISA transfers and possible rejections by their ISA manager, we require a specific figure to transfer from other ISAs to Ethex. We will speak to our ISA Manager to see what we can do to resolve this.

You need to wait 24 hours before making first investment
The only negative is that you need to wait 24 hours until you can make your first investment after being approved/clearing all checks. This meant I missed out on making a more significant investment as the offer was nearing full subscription.
