I had an Enviroshake shingle roof installed on my 175 year old log home in 2007 and in 2008 when we added an addition. The shakes were purchased from Roof Mart in Bradford Ontario. In 2015 we found that the shake began to curl slightly following heavy rains. By January of 2016 the problem was worse. I contacted Enviroshake and they sent a man out to try and solve the problem. The result was that their representative said that the problem could not be corrected and they would replace the roof under warranty. Given the late time of year with winter approaching, I was told to call the company representative I dealt with to arrange an installation date in the following spring. In April 2017 I contacted him but I was told that the company was sold in January and the new owner tightened up the operation and he (the man I was dealing with) was let go and they were not dealing with any warranty issues. I attempted to get some assistance from the new owner but was denied any help. The company now carries on business using the same Enviroshake name and citing it’s history as being in existence since 1997. It’s 50 year warranty is now being called a ‘Lifetime Warranty’.
I now believe that the materials my shakes were made from had a mixture of materials that aged quickly and then began to absorb increasing amounts of water during rainy periods. Eventually the shakes on the entire roof began curling up, became brittle and small pieces began flaking off.
I don’t know if there have been improvements in the current shakes but certainly my experience with this company has been a frustrating and exceptionally expensive adventure.

Best service and best product and long lasting unlike cedar or wallaby shingles as this is not the same quality anymore and you can't tell the difference

Enviroshake is a man made composite shingle which is extremely durable and colourfast. Although the brochure says it’s made to look like natural cedar shakes, our Enviroshakes look more slate like than wood like, which suits us just fine. Our cedar roof lasted about 24 years and it was at the end of its shelf life.
The new product is much more attractive in my opinion, and of course it was be much more durable.
It is an expensive shingle to buy and to install, and Robbs Roofing in brantford is your man to take on this job if you are ready to take the leap. His crew did an excellent job- very polished and professional end result.
Recommend this pricey choice for that unique and special home. Not sure you will ever recoup the costs when you sell the house, but pride of ownership is definitely there.

I researched for over three years, I did my due diligence and believe I found the best product with the best warranty. To be honest the warranty was a bonus as it far exceeds anything I would ever need. The roof looks great, so great that after seeing my roof, my neighbor across the street ordered his Enviroshake roof as well.
I had a cedar shake roof and wanted to maintain the look without the maintenance of cedar, I ended up with a better looking roof with little to no maintenance. Win win for me and my neighbors and for the next owners.
The new roof will also help resale value, another two thumbs up,
Thanks Peakmasters for a job well done.

Was a little cumbersome to get the shakes delivered to my small project site. My limitation is I don't have a forklift to unload. Once I had product on site, installation was great. Needed to match garage with existing cabin so kept the shakes with enviroshake.

The product is easy to work with. I am happy to be able to forget about re roofing for many many years to come. It was a pleasure dealing with the staff, they were professional, courteous and informed. The order did arrive a day earlier than it was supposed to, but it wasn't an issue. Thanks!
Until another roofing job comes along,
Scott

I'm a roofing contractor and came to find this product after looking at varies competitors in the composite slate market and could not find a suitable real looking substitute slate product for my client until discovering Enviroslate. Ashley, Barb, and Kristina have been great to work with from start to finish and answered all my questions or concerns in a very timely manner. Everyone who has seen the project falls in love with the look of this roof. I would definitely recommend this company, product, and it's people to future homeowners. I look forward to working with them in the future.

Love the product but be aware once your check clears your on your own and given the limited installer base if you have any problems there is zero factory support.
We have had a couple sections of roof cap blow off and the factory will use zero effort to help get it repaired

Brad, Anne-Marie and Team were beyond expectations (which were already high!). Workmanship and Clean up was exemplary, personal relations excellent, courtesy and flexibility were outstanding.
We have no hesitation in very highly recommending them.

Replaced cedar shakes with an Enviroshake roof in 2015. Contractor (Peakline Construction) did an excellent job. We live in the Canadian Rockies. That winter, we found that heavy snow slid off the roof so had snow stops inserted. The roof and snow stops have worked well since.

I am very happy I chose to replace my 45 year old cedar "kindling" roof with Enviroshakes last summer. Fortunately, I haven't had to "test" it yet with nearby forest fires. Everyone says it looks so beautiful and I am really glad I spent a little more to keep the esthetic "charm" with my log house. Lorne Mountain Building and Finishing did a fabulous job installing it. I am spreading the word around the neighbourhood about this roofing product.

Excellent product. Appreciated the installer referred by the company. Be sure to use snow guards as the shakes are much more slippery and the snow will come off the roof in substantial batches.

Staff were helpful and professional and the product seems to be good. I have 4 complaints: 1) Samples (before purchase) had no flash (google "flash plastic injection molding" without the quotes), but delivered product had a lot, and much of it was so BAD, I often felt the need to trim it. Installation instructions did not mention flash. 2) Nailing by hand was extremely difficult to impossible, using a nail gun is the only practical way to install this product, but there was no mention of this in the installation instructions. 3) Installation instructions say hand split the shakes at the keyway. [Quoting the instructions: "If you need to split – this can be accomplished by snapping by hand in a quick motion – or by taking a knife and scoring the crease in the keyway and snapping."] But this did not work, because the keyway sidewalls were a lot thinner than the keyway bottom, where you would want the shake to split. The solution would be to have a mold part for the bottom side that matches the mold part for the top side, so that the keyway sidewalls would be at least as thick as the keyway bottoms. To get around this problem, I gave up trying to hand split the shakes as recommended in the installation instructions, instead I used a table saw to cut the shakes. 4) Ridge caps used over ridge vents should be lower pitch than the actual roof pitch. Information on the product should make clear that it is UP TO THE PURCHASER to order lower pitch roof caps, as staff will forget.
