My experience with Engine World was generally good

My experience with Engine World was good.
They handled my purchase professionally and efficiently. The engine was delivered on time and as promised. Unfortunately, the engine I purchased makes a noise that the mechanic calls "piston-slap.". The cost of removing and replacing the engine was approximately 4 times the cost of the engine. Though the engine was warranteed or guaranteed, the cost of replacing it was prohibitive, thus I chose not to exercise the warranty. I have put approximately 8,000 miles on the engine without any problem, but I have no idea how long it will last.

Not customer friendly after payment

Purchase agreement was ok, but they were supposed to meet me at a midpoint for delivery of the engine. 4 hours before we were supposed to meet I was called and told the driver didn't show up so I had to drive all the way up to pick it up from them, twice as far. I asked about when I could have it delivered to midpoint again and they said we cant answer that, it has to be when it is convenient for them. I asked if they could deliver to me since it was their issue, they said no, not without charging me full delivery charge. I decided to go pick up. Once I had my mechanic install, turns out the heads needed resurfacing and they would only replace the engine, no consideration for loss of costs involved with r&r of engine and delivery to me. They wouldn't deliver to me or offer delivery at any discount. I had to pay for delivery, full price, or pick up, AGAIN. They did agree to meet for exchange, at their convenience. AND they wouldn't give me engine without getting defective engine also or charge me for 'core'. I offered to bring it to them afterward, but they wouldn't work with me. They offered to 'allow' me to pay for the second engine and whenever I delivered the first engine they would reimburse me. The second engine gave us some problems but we were lucky and issue worked itself out.

I was scammed

I was scammed. I told them I wanted a h23a1 engine they gave me a h23a3 . They assured me it would work after finding out it doesn't have a knock sensor making the car not pass smog.

Every engine I have gotten has been…

Every engine I have gotten has been great. Delivery has also been great. Lately the pricing seems to be higher than other vendors. The call back time on inquiries seem much longer than in the years past. Due to higher pricing and longer call back times it has caused me to purchase from different vendors. As I said in the first two sentences, I have gotten great engines and propt delivery from engine world.

Find an Engine Elsewhere

What they don't tell you about these low-mileage used engines is that they have no guarantee that they run properly at all! They may come out of cars with less than 60k miles but these engines have been ABUSED. They said they do compression tests and some other "inspections" but really there's no way that's the case for every engine they sell. The first engine I received quickly started burning a ton of oil and overall running like utter garbage, it was undrivable. So, I had to get a replacement engine sent out. The second engine burned slightly less oil, but being without a car so long I just committed to having to put a quart of oil in every week. That was ok to get me by but it still wouldn't pass CA emissions tests. I'm glad I had the help of a mechanic friend and didn't have to pay labor twice to put a piece of junk in my car or I would have been livid. Oh, and they make no effort to compensate you for your time or other expenses when they send a bad engine. I've since gotten rid of the car but would not recommend a "refurbished" or "used" engine from them or anyone for that matter unless they'll show you it's been tested thoroughly.
