I would say it was a waste of money. In January 2026, I paid a consultancy $600 upfront. They also wanted 12% of my paycheck if I got a job. They barely worked on my profile or applied for jobs, so I got fed up and withdrew.

I spoke to other people and learned that the consultancy charged different rates. Some were told they would pay 8% after getting a job, while others were told 10% or 15%. They did not provide proper job training either. They just gave me study materials and expected me to learn on my own.

Based on my experience, I would avoid consultancies that ask for money upfront. An application service that charges only for applying to jobs may be cheaper than giving up 10% to 15% of your paycheck.
