I listed some clothing for sale and decided to 'promote' it. Well, that was a big mistake. If you are a 'digital native', no problem, but if you are a mum and dad seller then look out with ebay's tactics. I have spend hours trying to TURN OFF the promotion and had to contact ebay twice online to fix it. Up shot is I lost $20 and sold nothing!

Failure at every customer service level

This is a multi billion dollar industry and this company has 1 yes one Standard Operating Procedure to unlock and account in regards to verification. Several I am talking 15 years or so ago I set up ebay not used a lot but a little. I changed From telstra to Optus around 10 years ago for better coverage remote. I dont honestly remember that old phone number, they refuse to verify me even though the new number is on the account it was not the one I set up ebay with and they straight face told me they have 0 other way to verify me. How does a company that big be that bad. When I said I want to raise a complaint, oh ok I put a note on file. that is it. Go to amazon... that is my advice.

EBay want your money stolen

EBay are a "company" that will actively aid scammers and help them steal your money via fraudulent transactions. 15 years with eBay, they used to be good. But now, I would encourage both sellers and buyers to boycott EBay. I had a fraudulent transaction made on my account and despite having all the proof of returning the product, even a PDF file containing the signature of the seller signing for the return, eBay denied my refund claim and refuse to help. The "customer service", if you can call them that are full of sub IQ people who completely ignore consumer law and give you the runaround when trying to get a result. Boycott EBay, It'll protect your finances when you do!

ZERO STARS for eBay Customer Service!

We purchased a Samsung Galaxy S24 on 31 January 2025 advertised as a brand-new phone with a 1-yr warranty. We also expected a genuine Samsung warranty from this eBay Seller, box_buy, as nothing to the contrary was advertised. The phone suffered a serious malfunction in early October, so the Seller was contacted. No reply for days, so we contacted Samsung which unsuccessfully tried to rule out causes of the malfunction over the phone. Samsung then instructed us to take the phone to their repair centre which, after 3 days, it was determined the phone was an overseas phone and, as such, was not warrantied by Samsung (repair to cost $750). And BTW, we've owned about 12 Samsung phones over the 15 years, and none until this one needed repair both pre and post warranty, so we suspect we were sold a refurbished phone.

We then contacted eBay twice via chat (since a phone number is no longer available as it once used to be), which finally yielded a response from the Seller who advised us to mail him the phone for a replacement phone (no mention of a brand-new phone). It became clear that the Seller wanted to repair the phone himself and send us a replacement refurbished phone. We wanted our phone repaired by Samsung in the area where we live and be assured it's getting genuine Samsung parts, plus knowing we would be getting our original phone back. The Seller wasn't willing to arrange a Samsung repair in our area, so we demanded a refund which the Seller ignored and then stopped responding to our messages. We checked his reviews and despite having good reviews overall (he sells other items besides phones), he had many negative reviews (if you filter them) regarding selling refurbished phones as new, not supplying genuine parts, not responding to messages, and not providing proper invoices. Some complaints referred to him as a scammer. This only confirmed our resolve for a refund if Samsung could not repair the phone under their warranty.

EBay has been ENTIRELY unhelpful in advocating for us. They repeatedly claim they are not the seller and have no accountability as to the warranty their sellers offer. They repeatedly cite the user agreement signed when we registered with eBay 15 years ago!!! They repeatedly claim they can only intervene within the 30-day period, which as others have stated, isn't even 30 days since the period starts from when you order the item, not when you receive it.

EBay is aiding and abetting these types of unscrupulous sellers whilst profiteering from their fraudulent sales. We will be addressing this issue with the ACCC. There are far too many negative reviews about eBay on this forum, as well as other forums, and it's time eBay, the greedy behemoth it is, be reigned in and held to account for being complicit in these misleading and unconscionable sales and practices. Australian consumer laws must be adhered to, including the 2-year fit-for-purpose warranty that consumer goods in this country are to receive.

So many frauds on ebay

So many frauds on ebay. Rampant with Chinese sellers stating they are in Australia but then you find out they are actually in China. Just dropshippers, scammers, con artists.
Ebay plays dumb and says oh gosh we didn't know that. However they have all details showing where the seller lives.
Once you place an order you get sent where they really are. Not the lie ebay sells you.

Avoid ebay these days

Avoid ebay these days. Full of scammers and counterfeit items. The customer support is terrible. Reporting listings does nothing as it is not reviewed by humans but a completely useless AI automation that informs you nothing is wrong with the listing.

eBay - What a nightmare

just received an email from eBay notifying me that my account has been suspended for allegedly violating their counterfeit policy. All 69 of my listings have been flagged, which is baffling considering every item is genuine and most of them stored in my own garage. No explanation. No details. Just a vague notice with zero context. It honestly feels like someone at eBay hit the suspend button half-asleep last night.
At this point, I don't even know if it's worth wasting time trying to speak with support—they never offer real help anyway. You get the same scripted response over and over, with no accountability, no meaningful resolution, and zero support for genuine sellers.
No wonder so many sellers are packing up and shifting to Amazon, where there's at least a clearer path for growth and some level of seller support that doesn’t feel like shouting into the void.

EBay plus is a hoax

There has to be a way to avoid their Indian call centres. These guys are thieves. They cancelled my eBay Plus subscription during the trial period as requested then reinstated it without me knowing then took my money anyway. I called their cc and the guy said he will refund it as soon as the transaction reflects on their end which was the following day or 2. He said he will call me. Needless to say he did not refund me. I call today, over a week later. He says he is waiting on an invoice for the subscription! What invoice? They are literally stealing. These bottom feeders refuse to put you through to a supervisor. Called my bank and submitting claim for fraudulent activity. There is no such thing as eBay plus. There is no additional service offered. It’s money for nothing and your endless stress for free. These are serious level thrives.

I had a terrible experience with eBay's customer service after it was moved to the Philippines. The agents seemed uninterested in providing good customer service, likely due to inadequate compensation for the work they do. Unfortunately, eBay's platform has significantly declined, which is disappointing, as it was once a reliable and respected service.

Always getting Worse.

Used to be you only had to distrust sellers overblown fake specification's like the 300W wind generator I purchased that produces 10W in a cyclone, I could go on with many other examples and yes it appears I am a sucker for punishment. Now however there are a number of other RED Flag's also.
Items are Pictured and advertised with fake prices, when you click on them now you get presented with a selection window where when you click on the actual product Advertised and Pictured the price goes UP. Many sellers use this con to confuse buyers and you have to sift through too many fake adds to find an honest seller. The other thing is the item is supposed to be at the location specified so you can gauge the time of a delivery trip however more and more items are being marked as posted when it takes days for their actual hand over to a carrier and WORSE many items now are shipped direct from China and not from the actual advertised location. While China Post Is FAST compared to Australia Post it adds another layer of delay and deceit. The final Nail now is the removal or at least the hiding of the resolution center where you could once lodge a complaint and request a refund. Recently I was blocked from making a complaint about a fake item because Ebay claimed I had to wait until the estimated delivery time even though I had the fake item in hand, then I was blocked form making a complaint because I contacted Pay Pal about the fake item, finally even the seller agreed to refund me and apologized but as yet Ebay still have my money and I have not got a refund. This is an appalling company to deal with and clearly crime does pay.

BE WARE no shopper protection

I just want to alert shoppers that I wanted to report eBay Australia to the AFCA because they are refusing to issue me a refund (the typical eBay chat troll) but since eBay is not a member of AFCA, I may not make a complaint.
My item didn't have a tracking number but eBay insisted that I was in good hands LOL LOL LOL
eBay doesn't have a complaint procedure so the only choice is to chat with these chat trolls who know nothing other than picking in their noise while reading non sense and off topic scripts.
So be ware, always and only make transactions with a credit card because you get a shopper protection and avoid wasting your time with ignorant chat trolls.

Of all the e-commerce platforms that I use, and believe there's lots. eBay would be in my top 10 possibly my top 5. I don't go to the shops anymore at all. Everything is on-line, I hate the hassle, crowds, parking and the petrol costs $20 to go shopping anyway.
There is room for a little improvement and I love the new AI generated copy for advertising and information.
I'd love to be able to review some of my suppliers on eBay, who deserve credit where credit's due.

Highly recommend

Ebay should do way more to protect buyers - They do not care.

No Australian phone number for Ebay, dreadful service.
We thought we were buying a new Phillips purifier, but we were sent a filthy worn-out machine. It was not cheap. People should not be able to sell old filthy purifiers with dirty corroded filters. We really are stupid. We will stick to Myer and Harvey Norman. My faith in Ebay is the lowest. Ebay have even stopped handling phone calls to save money to sort out these problems. So, no customer service. We have certainly learned the hard way. Would I recommend others to use Ebay - No way. We cannot believe how we have been fooled. Why doesn't Ebay do more to help and protect the buyers. We are happy to supply photos.

Got ripped of by one of their sellers and tried to contact them and report the seller (sold me a phone with 2yr warrantee phone died after 6mths and wont honor it). I tried to report them but every time I contacted an "agent" they kept sending me links to the ebay contact page I started on then ended "chat", and if I did get through to fill in their report a seller form It wouldn't except it and told me to try again later. There is NO way to report a seller unless it matches the prompts on the page exactly. You can't actually speak to a real person. Bugger 4/03/24 I used them again got scammed again still SFA chance of contacting a PERSON; STILL

eBay loves scammers

The seller contacts you after the purchase saying you have to wait two months for the parts to arrive. They never arrive or even supply you the shipping information. By the time this happens you can no longer leave feedback or get your money back. EBay just sits back and lets it happen. They don’t care about anything other than making money. How sellers behave is of no interest to them.
