Steer Clear

I had high hopes for my solar system installation with Universe Solar, and I believe I am entitled to that, especially after spending over $20,000. My initial interactions with Andrew from Earth and Sun Electrical left me feeling confident, as he appeared knowledgeable and professional. Unfortunately, my experience took a drastic turn for the worse once the installation was complete.

After the installation, I discovered that the changeover switch was placed in an absurdly inaccessible location, making it nearly impossible for me, a 75-year-old, to reach. There was no consultation regarding its placement, which is not just frustrating but unacceptable. I reached out to Universe Solar for assistance, but my calls and messages went unanswered.

Eventually, I contacted Andrew directly, and he "PROMISED" to relocate the switch the next time he was in the area. Anyone focused on customer needs and satisfaction—not just on the dollars earned—would have recognized that the placement of the switch was both dangerous and impractical given my circumstances. While I appreciated his willingness to help, it has now been nearly six months—yes, six months—during which he has been in the area for other installations yet has failed to take any action. All I hear are empty promises of "I’ll be over tomorrow." Despite my numerous follow-ups and his repeated assurances, this issue remains unresolved. The only consistent thing I receive from him is a string of excuses.

Furthermore, during his examination of the system on behalf of Universe Solar, Andrew disclosed that shading from nearby trees would severely impact the battery charging efficiency. This critical information should have been provided upfront, not revealed only after I had paid. A reputable business is expected to provide complete and accurate information from the start, not leave customers in the dark until after the transaction is finalized.

To anyone considering Universe Solar or Earth and Sun Electrical, I strongly encourage you to ask as many questions as possible before making a decision. Be prepared to follow up multiple times, as it seems that essential information will not be shared until after your payment is processed. Unfortunately, they appear to be focused solely on the payment day, leaving you to fend for yourself afterward. This experience has been incredibly stressful and disappointing, and I sincerely hope that future customers do not have to endure what I have.

Do your homework

I had high hopes for my solar system installation with Universe Solar, especially since the initial installer, Andrew from Earth and Sun Electrical, seemed knowledgeable and professional. However, my experience took a turn for the worse once the installation was complete.

After the installation, I discovered that the changeover switch was placed in a ridiculously difficult spot, making it nearly impossible for me (a 75-year-old) to access. There was no consultation regarding its placement, which was frustrating. I reached out to Universe Solar for assistance, but my calls and messages went unanswered.

Eventually, I contacted Andrew directly, and he assured me that he would move the switch the next time he was in the area. I was grateful for his willingness to help, but it has now been nearly six months. Despite numerous follow-ups and promises from him, I am still waiting for this issue to be resolved.

Additionally, during his investigation of the system on behalf of Universe Solar, Andrew mentioned that shading from nearby trees would severely impact the battery charging efficiency. This information was shocking to me, as it was never disclosed prior to the installation. I believe that any reputable business should provide complete and accurate information upfront, rather than only after payment has been made.

To anyone considering using Universe Solar or Earth and Sun Electrical, I strongly advise asking as many questions as possible before making a decision. Be prepared to follow up multiple times, as it seems that information will not be volunteered until after your funds are received. This experience has been disappointing, and I hope future customers have a better experience than I did.

Hi Tony,

We are sorry that you are not satisfied.

With regards to the above, Earth and sun Electrical Pty ltd is disappointed that you are not satisfied with the Installation and the process.
We can only speak for Earth and Sun Electrical and not Universe Solar, we have been approached by Universe Solar to install the Off-Grid systems.
With regards the position of the changeover switch, we have installed the switch at the Main Switch-board, at the time of the installation we did not know of your limited access to this area, in my mind it is easily accessible. The pre-existing generator inlet had been installed in the same area and that didn't seem an issue, nor did you mention that you wanted it elsewhere.
The Generator inlet socket can only be installed in certain areas due to risk of fire and fumes etc that the generator will produce. I know you wanted it on the back deck, I have been quite vocal on many occasions that I will NOT install the socket in a restricted area.

With regards the movement of the changeover switch, this can be done.
As you know living on South Stradbroke Island has its complexities.
The last trip we completed was hampered by rain for most of the trip and put a lot of jobs behind.
As your system was running and producing power the moving of the changeover switch was put on the bottom of the list as there are many other people who still had ZERO power coming into Christmas.
We are sorry we couldn't get the move done in the short week we had on the island, but we are limited by the barge etc

With regards the shading issues, one of the first conversations we had I personally informed you that the system would be impacted by shading.
I was happy to hear that a tree surgeon had been organized, I'm not sure if the tree surgeon every visited the island.

With regards the communication from Earth and Sun Electrical we have always made contact asap and tried are very best to not have unsatisfied customers.

Again, we are sorry with the current outcome, but we feel that a lot of your frustration is NOT due to Earth and Sun Electrical.

Regards
Andrew
