Teaching is pretty solid

Teaching is pretty solid - very talented and intelligent teaching staff. Student support is great. Can’t expect much more from an institution honestly. I appreciated my time there.

Do not have a good word to say about…

Do not have a good word to say about this company. The other reviews are correct. The academics who work there are bullying, lazy and abusive. The degrees are "faked" and not regulated - particularly PhDs. Female students are treated as sex object. Not much better for female staff. The lack of ability of many of the lecturing staff is concerning. Also the lack of dedication. For example rather than take his lectures, one staff member was found to be spending the time in his office with another member of staff in a compromising position. Go to an establishment that is genuine.

Do not send your International kids here

Terrible University for its students, first to go virtual during Covid, my son stranded in Durham in miserable student house with virtually zero support from Uni welfare staff etc. Happy to take (refuse to discuss or reply to my appeals) International fees from us (even though son is British and all my family are British) because we live abroad but no personal support offered during lockdown and isolation.
Now due to Markers’ strike he still has no final degree or mark in October!!! Was supposed to graduate in July - no compensation- nothing. Do not send your International kids to this uncaring institution- 🙏 also, once your kid is over 18 they refuse to talk to parents at all due to the “privacy laws” - even though parents pay the fees and they are in a strange country. I was so proud that my son got into one of the “top 5” Universities in UK, now I feel totally betrayed by Durham University, there is no helpline for parents and I have had zero communication from the University.

Massive negative impact on residents

Is ruining the city with the sheer volume of students in private lets literally taking over whole streets. The issues with noise pollution and litter has to be seen to be believed. The council make so much money from the uni that that are scared to challenge it. Also as an institution guilty of wasting public money on lavish buildings and art work whilst putting up tuition fees and failing to invest in colleges hence why private landlord who don't even pay council tax are raking it in.
Truly horrible people working here as well. Deep routed political nonsense . Used to be the country's third most prestigious univeirsty but rapidly slipping down the ranks.

ACTIONS POTENTIALLY CAUSE MENTAL AND PHYSICAL HARM TO APPLICANTS

Very poor experience with the Durham student entry in August 2023.
On day of the A-level results DURHAM WAS NOT ABLE TO SAY IF THE STUDENT'S PLACE HAS BEEN CONFIRMED
IT QUOTED A WEEK OR MORE BEFORE IT COULD CONFIRM THE PLACE.
This meant the student was unable to go onto the clearing system ans to do so the University had to reject the student at which point the student would get a clearing code.

THE UNIVERSITY HAS PUT STRESS ON THE STUDENT CAUSING SEVER MENTAL ANGUISH AND POSSIBLE PHYSICAL HARM AND INJURY TO THE STUDENT

Every other university has been able to confirm their placements

My view is that to Durham is the last university to consider AND based on its actions it clearly has no concern for the welfare of its applicants.

My view is that given that it knew ahead of time about the A level results and from the experience we have had of Durham we might infer that Durhams management practices are poor and there could be some incompetence in its approach.
