Don’t buy over size 12

My husband bought a pair of Donegal boots quite a few years ago. The upper was still in very good condition but they needed a re-sole. Well out of warranty Dubarry told us that The Leeds boot company did their out of warranty work. We organised this online and sent off the boots only to have the boots sent back with a note saying that they don’t resole boots over size 12! His boots were size 13. We then contacted Dubarry direct and they wouldn’t mend them either (still can’t understand why not) and offered us 20% off a new pair! We did get a prompt refund for everything (postage/mending from the Leeds Boot co….but it was such a waste of time. Moral of our experience….dont buy Dubarry boots over size 12….even though Dubarry continue to make boots over size 12 they won’t mend them.

DUBARRY FOR COMFORT AND SERVICE

After 30 years of service, and twice resoled by Dubarry it was time to upgrade my Ultima boots for a round the world yacht race. No other sail boots come close to the comfort, warmth and durability of these boots. And I've yet to try any other deck shoe as robust or as comfortable as the traditional Dubarry deck shoes. Thank you Dubarry for the products and the exceptional after sales service. I will update this review with an honest appraisal of Dubarry footwear when I return from my round the world adventure next year.

Waterproof boots that soak up water!!

Bought Dubarry Ultima sailing boots in black. They were incredibly expensive but looked amazing. They were easy to get on and off unlike other sailing boots. However the leather on the front of the boot very quickly wore right through. They soaked up water which got right through the boot so spent many hours sailing with very wet feet. Bizarrely the boots when stored below deck were soaked even though entirely dry when stowed. On land, they also seem to absorb moisture from the air! Not what you want from a waterproof boot!! The maintenance kit is also hugely expensive for the tiny amount of product. There are far, far better boots out there for a fraction of the cost - even basic wellingtons perform better at sea!! Not recommended other than for a trip to the shops or a cool party.

Not worth it

Ordered boots a size larger so I could use thick socks, they are too small even with thin socks. Sent back for refund, but tax and shipping not refunded. They do not state this in refund section. Was going to exchange for bigger size, but won't now

Great customer service

I have purchased a gille in January and the lining was loose. I have returned the item after couple of months and the manager Flory was more than willing to help me. She found the receipt as I didn’t have it based on the date of purchase and sent the gille to their fabric for a repair. She has quickly confirmed that all has been done and today I picked the article that was repaired. I would say that the level of service is great and that you are really feeling cosy in their Chelsea store.

Lots of appreciation!

I don’t usually write reviews but I have to acknowledge the helpfulness and follow up from the staff in the Sloane Square branch, most especially by Flory. I had a problem with my order which was quickly and very efficiently resolved, with pleasure! I am addicted to the Dubarry beautifully cut dressage style blouses - they are a super flattering cut and always look so smart- I wear them so often that it’s almost become my trademark. They really showed their appreciation of my custom and loyalty - that means a lot!

Resoling is impossible (and unavailable) in the US

My boots are seven years old and have performed well. What’s disappointing for me is the inability to get them properly serviced. This is due in large part to how and where the shoes are made. These days, Dubarry’s shoes have been offshore to Portugal where they are now mass produced for global demand. Any time any product is changed to churn out more volume, quality always suffers. This is an insufferable truth regardless of whether you are buying shoes or hamburgers.

When my shoes did finally fail and completely separate, I learned that there are no Dubarry facilities in the US that can properly repair them. Based on the construction method utilized, this is likely more the culprit than if my shoes were hand (or even machine) stitched vs high pressure vacuum sealed. Of course there is no cobbler who can service this boot, because it is not meant to be serviced. It is constructed to be used and then thrown away. A big disappointment for a brand that was admired as recently as 20 years ago but has succumbed to greed and efficiency vs quality of construction. I’ve unfortunately owned my last pair if Dubarrys.

Great customer care and service

Despite our handbag being faulty and out of warranty Dubarry couldn't have been more professional and helpful. They sent a replacement bag within a couple of days and we were really pleased with thier customer service and communication. Thank you. We would highly recommend this company.

I bought a pair of Kildare boots…

I bought a pair of Kildare boots several years ago, I barely used them - perhaps two or three times a winter as I had been somewhat disabled and less active at that time. Last week I used them for the first time in a year or so and was dismayed to see that the soles were delaminating . I took them to a shoe repairman and he took one look and said "I can't fix them - the material they used is rotten". He sold me a tube of Shoe Goop which I applied and now the boot is under repair with a cedar insert inside and a 25 lb bag of lead shot applying pressure. In future , I won't spend hundreds of $ on any Dubarry products.

First time purchase (£607 order) - Terrible Experience

Quality of the products is decent, however the customer support and evidently the dispatch team are terrible.

They sent out the wrong sized shirt and then informed me I had to return the shirt and then they would send out the new one. A few issues:
- The packaging they sent out was not accepted by Royal Mail collections. I had to buy more packaging for it.
- The Royal Mail collections just wouldn't work, even after an hour of troubleshooting clearly there was an error on the site with no way to actually book a collection.
- I then had to drop it off at the post office.

It's a shame as I really like the lineup of items that Dubarry has to offer but after this complete nightmare I won't be buying a single thing again - and if you value your time at all I would recommend never stepping foot on their website. Support don't even respond once per day.

Fabulous company with great…

Fabulous company with great correspondence. I asked for advice on my boots as leather was tight over top of one boot. They sent me a returns label to investigate the problem. Regular updates. They stretched the boots and now I can slip the boots on with ease. Many thanks team Dubarry

Shaking with anger at the way I was treated

I have just returned home from what can only be described as a fractious encounter with the manager of the Cheltenham branch. I bought a "top of the range” coat and on getting it home found a couple of buttons were loose. If my review was of my first return visit then it would be 5* as even though I was only asking for the buttons to be fixed, the sales assistant offered to replace the item. However getting the replacement home I found that on both sleeves the lining was so loose that it stuck out from underneath the cuffs whilst wearing.

I took it back today and the manageress made a number of claims. 1: That as they had already exchanged the product I was no longer entitled to a warranty. 2: That as I had left the shop with a faulty product I was no longer entitled to a warranty. 3: As I had worn the product (once) I was no longer entitled to a warranty. 4: That the product wasn't defective even though she'd "sold hundreds of these items and never seen this happened before". 5: That shop staff suggesting "a family member who was good with a needle could stitch it up" wasn't an admission of the item being faulty. And overall the way she spoke to me was insulting and hugely patronising.

Excellent customer service

I have purchased decal product from Dubarry over the years and the quality and service is exceptional. I recently noticed a mark on an item and after sending an email with an image they immediately sent a replacement. There was not questioning. Great customer service from Penny and the team.

Excellent customer service

I purchased a jacket in early Jan from the new Sloane Square location, I found Flory and her team so incredibly accommodating, I had a small issue with my jacket and Flory saw to the concern immediately and a replacement jacket was with me within a week, I received frequent updates from Dubarry reassuring me that the issue was being seen to.

I can’t thank her and the team enough!

Zero integrity- poor customer relations

Recently bought a pair of mens boots (in a sale) and after 3 days the sole came apart , contacted dubarry directly (fully aware I didn't have the contract with them as purchasd from a show shop) to eliminate one party as I thought it would be easier to deal with directly, explain the fault, express my surprise as we've been using dubarry shoes for years, well this is the complete opposite of what happened, not interested in what I had to say , not interested in their long term customer care , at one point actually said to me ....I found the man very rude , dismissive and with a complete lack of customer care ....I was just an annoying person he had to deal with that day . It didn't stop there , I went to return said faulty boots (after 3 days wear ) and the lady in the shoe shop ....said yes I know he'd contacted them to tell them ( what I don't know !) Left it with show shop to be sent back to dubarry , who didn't replace. Shocking level of integrity regarding their said quality brand , well they didn't stand by their faults in the end . I've seen dubarry in a new light. The team needs training regarding customer relations, there's lots of other quality brands similar, don't take your customers for granted dubarry . Very disappointing experience which has left a sour taste
