Review summary

Based on reviews, created with AI

Reviewers had a great experience with this company. Customers praise the app for its ability to track driving habits, provide insights for improvement, and potentially lead to lower insurance premiums. Many users appreciate the detailed driving feedback and the motivation it provides to become a safer driver. The app is often described as easy to use, working unobtrusively in the background, and offering useful ancillary features like fuel price comparisons. However, some people were dissatisfied with the app's accuracy, particularly regarding phone usage detection while being a passenger or misinterpreting acceleration and braking events. A few other people also felt that the insurance quotes offered through the app were not always competitive, sometimes even being more expensive than those found on comparison websites.

About DriveScore

Good Drivers Can Save Money on Car Insurance With DriveScore.

DriveScore is a new app that offers to help users prove and improve their driving skills, enabling them to save money on car insurance quotes and other products. DriveScore uses your phone's sensors to track how you drive, identifying where you could improve.

DriveScore monitors how you drive your car, giving you feedback and insight while building a score that can help you save money with better car insurance deals, by proving to insurers that you’re a good driver.

By putting users in control of data collected as they drive, DriveScore makes driving a safer, cleaner and fairer experience for all. DriveScore studies how you drive, analysing your driving behaviour, giving you valuable insight on your driving style and will directly help you save money on your car insurance.

DriveScore helps you to build better driving habits by offering you personalised driving tips and highlighting areas that you can improve.

FEATURES:

DRIVE
DriveScore automatically measures how you drive, turning your phone into a silent driving coach. It's easy to set up and runs in the background, distraction-free (and won’t drain your battery).

SCORE
Get your own DriveScore, see how you compare and track how your driving changes. See what’s positive and what to work on. Prove how well you drive.

SAVE
Make your miles go further by using DriveScore to shop for better car insurance. Use your score to get enhanced offers from our insurance partners and see if you can save. A smarter, fairer way to buy based on how you drive, not how insurers think you drive.

SEE
View the full details of your trip, including overall drive rating, insights, trip stats and the precise location of each driving event recorded.

FREE
Your data is always in your control and DriveScore will be FREE, forever.

Install DriveScore on your phone, the app will then use the functionality of your smartphone such as the accelerometer, gyroscope, compass and GPS readings to determine when you are undertaking a ‘Trip’ in a vehicle.

DriveScore will use these tools to take and record measurements relating to your driving behaviour, including calculating speed, acceleration, braking, cornering and distance travelled.

Demonstrating lower-risk driving behaviour such as smooth cornering and acceleration will lead to a higher DriveScore, while actions such as sudden braking or excessive speeding will lead to a lower DriveScore.

These are some of the factors that insurers may consider when providing a quote for car insurance premiums. DriveScore offers you the opportunity to understand how your driving behaviour may impact the cost of your car insurance premium.

Take DriveScore for a spin, download the app now and help make car insurance fairer for millions of people.

Become a better driver today.

Inconsistent scoring and lack of transparency

I have been using DriveScore for nearly a month and have completed around 750 tracked miles. Unfortunately, my experience has been disappointing due to inconsistencies in how the app evaluates driving behaviour.

On multiple occasions, I have been flagged for “harsh acceleration” despite the data suggesting otherwise. For example:

Increasing speed from 3–13 mph in 4.0 seconds (~1.1 m/s² or 0.11 G)
5–12 mph in 2.1 seconds (~1.5 m/s² or 0.15 G)
6–15 mph in 2.1 seconds (~1.9 m/s² or 0.19 G)

These values are well within normal and safe driving limits, yet they were still penalised. In one instance, acceleration was flagged without any supporting data at all.

The app also fails to account for real-world conditions such as road gradient. On a downhill stretch near a roundabout on my daily commute, the car can naturally reach 15 mph within a couple of seconds even with minimal throttle input. This is repeatedly flagged as aggressive driving, which is clearly unrealistic.

When I raised this concern, the response I received was generic and did not address the core issue. While the app claims to monitor “patterns” using accelerometer, GPS, and gyroscope data, it provides no transparency on:

What thresholds define “harsh” acceleration, braking, or cornering
Where exactly cornering faults occur (these are not even shown)
How environmental factors are considered (if at all)

What makes this more frustrating is that speed is the only parameter drivers can easily monitor and control. Acceleration, braking, and cornering scores are effectively opaque, leaving users penalised without actionable feedback.

Despite no clear faults being shown, my score currently sits around 660/1000 for cornering. This raises concerns about how fair and accurate the scoring system really is.

Overall, the concept is good, but the execution lacks transparency and realism. Until the scoring system becomes clearer and better aligned with real-world driving conditions, it’s difficult to trust the results.

I love this app! Great feedback and useful tips from the app.

Set up so it tracks each journey and provides this service. Feedback includes things like speed; attentions paid; distance; phone usage; braking feedback…it’s just SO GREAT!

Love looking at feedback available to view after each trip is very useful and easy accessed.

Brilliant service! Thank you!

Cant rate about insurance quotes as not…

Cant rate about insurance quotes as not due yet. Petrol stations is rubish, only a couple shown in my area, guess their only paid advertisers, many others on other sites and they show all their prices from cheapest to dearest within 15 miles. I go to an Esso and Shell garages which are usually 10 - 12pence cheaper than the competition and always have several waiting on every pump. I dont use suppermarket fual, which are only same price as branded stations nearby. I get better performance and about 10% more milage with branded diesel as well. I've been drving 63 years and my lowest score so far is 984 and drive at average speeds and still feel a competent driver and luckily dont need glasses.

Hi there,

Thanks for your review. We appreciate you taking the time to leave us feedback about the fuel insights feature. Right now, we show you the national average fuel price. We have plans to update this feature so that it lets you enter the fuel price you pay.

We're aware that this isn't an ideal feature at the moment, and we're working with UKVD to improve these insights. I'll share your feedback with the team to help make DriveScore better.

We would love to sort this out for you. Could you please email us at feedback@drivescore.com?

Many thanks,
Sami
