Mike who tutored the MMA instructor course at Manchester was a natural. Made me feel at ease throughout and tought the course really well.

Had a great week and a half on the level 2 fitness instructing course.

Initial Review:

1* Appalling company. DO NOT use them. A quick summary:

1) I contacted DL last week regarding how to sit my exams and was told firstly that DL does not even do my course. When I provided evidence of purchase and a screenshot of the online course I was told Student Support would contact me then to discuss it. I didn't receive a call.

2) I then sent an email as the DL online chat wasn't available requesting information on when I would be called and received nothing.

3) I contacted DL again to find out what could be done and was told I would be given a call immediately. I told the rep DL had 15 minutes to call me back before I would get in contact with you again. I received no call.

4) I contacted DL again but this time it was to request a refund for failure to supply the product and adhere to promises made by DL's staff. I was told a refund was not possible and I would get a call from student support, 40 minutes after I was already promised a call. I did not get a call then and still haven't at the time of writing this review. So I then threatened to take DL to court and only then did something happen which was an email pertaining to a phone conversation that never happened with links on how to take my exams.

An utter shambles of a company!

After everything that happened, I finally came to an arrangement that had me complete the course and my anger is placated somewhat. The people I came in contact with were lovely and very helpful and I do truly believe the situation was due to poor management through a transition period. I am also aware that the company is operated through a different company since my experience so I cannot comment on it today.

The people I met from Discovery in London though were incredibly nice people and I would rate them as 5* independently from this review.

That being said, I would not recommend going with Discovery due to my experiences.

A lot of issues, most of then resolved, but still have some unresolved problems. Only when you complain to a manager things seem to work

After deciding that I wanted a career change and wanted to get into the fitness industry I did some online research in relation to different training providers and in relation to courses that I wanted to do.
I decided to go with Discovery Learning and in just over a year I completed 7 Courses. All the tutors I had were very good, helpful and knowledgeable.
I have read some of the comments on here about Discovery and can say that my personal experience was good with the tutors and admin staff.

I did all my courses in West London and had no issues. Maybe the 'issues' some other students experienced were to do with other locations and some of the tutors at other centres.

Only feedback to those looking to book courses do it ASAP, don't put it off, 3 of my courses got moved due to being over subscribed, if I booked earlier this could have been avoided ?.

I highly recommend the MMA CPD Course, the tutor we had was Marc Edwards 10/10 !.

Good teaching techniques ensure you remember the information, and the variations of lessons keep you switched on.

I am doing my level 3 (online learning) and I've filed A&P. I've asked the student support to let me know in which module I've make more mistakes in order to know what to revise....Well they said that they are not allowed to do that, they cannot tell students what areas they do need to improve on..

How can someone improved and passed the exams if we don't know what to revise?
It doesn't sound to me legit, it defeats the purpose of learning but in this way surely the company makes lots of money, you failed you resit, you failed you resit, and this can go on and on and on forever!!!!

Great course with extensive study material, good classroom environment, and up-to-date gym for the practical side. Rob, our tutor, made the lessons fun and memorable, using visual aids and videos instead of just reading through the book, and made sure we all knew our stuff before taking the exams and practical assessment. All the staff were friendly and down-to-Earth, keeping us motivated the whole time. Recommended course provider!

In my course we had three different tutors teaching very different things also 9months on still waiting for my certificates as is another from my course I have a slight feeling they have been lost due to going through so many hands now I could be jobless outrageous!!!

I am just completing my Gym Instructor Level 2 certificate with Discovery Learning. After being out of the classroom for over 25 years I was a little anxious about going back to school. I needn't have been. Ricardo Walker and Tim Thresher reignited my passion for learning. In fact they actually facilitated me discovering it for the first time (I was never enthusiastic at school). At the age of 42 I have realised what people mean when they talk about a good teacher. The lessons have been fun, interactive, inspiring and engaging. I have felt fully supported, which is vital, as the amount of information I have digested over the last week is phenomenal - I would never have thought I could do it before this week.

The online support information provided by Discovery has been extremely helpful, although it does need to be updated and is full of numerous glitches and inconsistencies. I have been informed that this is happening soon though.

However, with any organisation it is the people who make it great, and Discovery has some absolute superstars working for it. I can highly recommend this course, and especially Tim and Ricardo as excellent teachers. They don't just want to turn out the average Personal Trainer; they want to create trainers who can think at a much deeper level for their clients and offer much more than an hour of work in the gym.

There are lots of courses out there to choose from, so go for one where the teachers go the extra mile for each and every student. I'm signing up with Discovery for my level 3 now!

I did the L2 Online Fitness Instructor course, while the content online was fine and straight forward the support team were appalling. They were slow to respond to enquiries, often gave conflicting advice and there seemed to be no communication between the team with follow up answers to emails that had already been answered. I decided to take the L3 PT in person on a full time course and have to say my instructor was superb, very knowledgeable, loads of practical advice and made for a really enjoyable course. Again the support team weren’t the greatest and I had to follow up quite a few times, even after they had said we will send you your temporary certificate by the end of the day, and several weeks later, and several emails later, I still hadn’t received it. All in all the in person course was superb, but the student support needs improving on. I wouldn't recommend the online courses to people.

I recently completed my Level 2 and 3 with Discovery Learning and had a great experience. The tutors (Ricardo and Tim) were amazing and they both went above and beyond to give us the knowledge to pass the course and actually be ready and confident to start a PT career. The atmosphere was really relaxed but we also got so much done.

I felt the course could have been updated/modernised somewhat in some areas but other than that I felt it gave a good overview of the knowledge needed to become a PT.

Discovery Learning has been amazing, the tutors are very knowledgeable and engaging giving clear concise information at a good pace to enable you to take it all in. The only negative is that the online video tutorials only seem to work on a chrome book. It would be really helpful if they were ipad compatible. I would definitely recommend Discovery Learing to anyone wishing to pursue a career in the fitness industry.

A wonderful experience with Discovery Learning while completing my Level 2 gym instructor and Level 3 personal training course. The Tutors Ricardo Walker and Tim Thresher were brilliant, they made me feel so at ease and welcome when first starting the course. As well as being incredibly friendly and supportive throughout my time there and couldn’t have done it without them. Sincerely grateful for all their help.

WOW! What an experience. I recently completed the L2 Gym Instructor course and it was fantastic? Why? The tutors were incredibly patient and their passion for fitness and health was contagious! As someone who suffered from 'gymtimidation', I now feel equipped and confident about using the gym equipment and training others. I learnt so much in 8 days e.g. anatomy, physiology, concepts of fitness and met some lovely people. If you are considering training in the field of fitness, whether a complete novice like me or a seasoned professional, I encourage you to try Discovery Learning. I cannot thank them enough.

I recently did my level 2 and 3 personal training and gym instructors courses, full time with discovery learning in birmingham. The instructor was great and I was instantly put at ease and felt very comfortable in the environment. I have also since done a CPD course in strength training which was to the same high standard as the full time courses. The teaching is great and again relaxed, everything was explained and reiterated numerous times. Nothing was too much to ask. I would highly recommend using this company.

Face to face element if the course - perfect! Both people I had taking level 2 and 3 were great.
Sadly it's the communication side of phones and emails that really let this down .
I passed all of my level 2 course in January, but couldn't receive a confirmation email that I had passed until APRIL due to my practical paper work going missing. Luckily I had taken copies of this so happily emailed them forward to student support. What really frustrated me was no one replied to say they had received this despite the fact I emailed them 3 times asking so!
Now for my level 3, I submitted the last of my portfolio work 3 weeks ago. I have passed my theory and practical exams but still waiting on confirmation of my A&P exam. I have made two phone calls and sent two emails asking for confirmation that my portfolio has definitely been received and asking what the waiting time is for marking and so far the emails have been ignored and the phone call went a bit like this 'ermm.... yeah I think so.' That does not fill me with confidence whatsoever!
I have been offered a job but they are getting fed up of been fobbed off by me saying 'hopefully it shouldn't be too much longer' and quite frankly I'm embarrassed!
Personally I wouldn't recommend discovery learning to anyone if they want a hassle free service, which is a real shame because the course itself is fantastic.
