Avoid like the plague

I would give zero stars if I could. I used Devacurl for 11 months only to have my hair completely ruined. I’ve lost 75% of my hair, I now have dermatitis and eczema on my scalp and my curl pattern completely destroyed. I have tried to warn people on instagram but they have restricted me and on Facebook where they have blocked me. Four years later my hair has not grown back and my hair is a frizzy mess. I’m devastated and barely leave my home anymore.

I am just hearing about devacurl's bad…

I am just hearing about devacurl's bad rep.
I have used the defining gel and my hair is so crunchy that it feel like it'd going to break.
I emailed them and right off the bat, they bocked me. What the hell is that all about?
When you are selling a product to customers you better answer their emails because you owe us that.
Only a company that has something to hide does that and that is what devacurl is doing to me.
The company is not an honest one and they need to answer to their customers. How does a customer get in touch with them?

DO NOT USE DEVA CURL PRODUCTS!

DO NOT USE DEVA CURL PRODUCTS!! I used their products for years and my hair started falling out in clumps. Once I stopped using it, my hair is just now starting to grow back. They refused to refund my money and told me their products are safe. Their products are NOT SAFE!!! I didn’t know there was lawsuits against them for people, claiming Deva curl products cause them to lose their hair. when I bought the products. Unfortunately I found out too late. Now I am having to pay out-of-pocket for a dermatologist to help me try to get my hair to grow back.

I used deva hair because I was in a…

I used deva hair because I was in a town with out many options for black hair. I had to be in an important interview. It was just a mouse but it made my hair FEEL so bad. It felt plastic-y. I do a lot to take good care of my hair and was surprised and disappointed. My hair felt like how it does if I went swimming in a chlorine filled pool and did condition it for a few days.

Please change the deva curl conditioner pump

I actually love the Deva Curl Conditioning product and have used it for a number of years. I do NOT like the new bottle and pump for the larger deval curl container. I have had a number of malfunctioning pumps that actually don't work and those that have only work until the bottle is about 25% full. It is very difficult to get the rest of the product out of the bottle. The older version was taller and skinner and the pumps worked well....please bring them back. Or, please put a different cap on these bottles to allow one to just squeeze the product into one's hand. I do not use the smaller versions that have this because of the cost and environmental issues of using smaller size products.

Both my daughter and I had terrible scalp issues after using these Devacurl products. Red scaly patches appeared out of nowhere and sudden hair loss. I do not recommend this product at all. After seeing all the reviews it's hard to believe they still make this stuff.

Do Not Recommend

Ok, well here goes. I started using Deva Curl about a couple years ago. At first I Absolutely loved the products. One day my sister told me about reviews that ladies hair were thinning from D.C. I said , oh you can't believe everything. Well, the more I used D.C., the more hair I wiped up from the drain. I also noticed my hair was thinning, I have a lot of hair. Nope, no health issues that way. No Joke. I switched to a different line of hair care just about 5 months ago, Amazingly, my drain is no longer full of hair anymore, just a tiny bit, if any, Just Like Before D.C. My hair is thickening again and feeling more like it used to. I do not recommend this brand, at first it's great but then it goes downhill. I would never lie about this product, as I have no reason to. Just want to warn other ladies/guys.. If I were someone with thinner hair than mine, I would be furious instead of mad.

I ordered a $99 bundle of DevaCurl…

I ordered a $99 bundle of DevaCurl products on Jan 16th and was waiting for them to arrive. Their website showed my order processing for 6 days. By the time I was really wondering where my products are, I heard that they were in a lawsuit (I won't say - you know). I emailed them. No response for another 2 days. Jan 24th - I checked the website again and still showing processing. I called them and told them that this was too long for something that was promised much quicker and customer service emails were not working. Lady said that there was something going on with the warehouse and website dashboard. She said it would arrive that day. No tracking information to view. I had a bad feeling with the accusations and poor service so far that I told her I didn't want it and I would return it as soon as it arrived. They sent me a return label and she said she would start the return. I received package and returned by next day. I assumed that a refund would start the same time as the return like any other good vendor.

During that time of refund/return, I received a response to the first question I had sent many days earlier. I replied and let them know to not bother with answering me because I no longer needed it and returning. Don't be fooled. Returning does not mean a speedy refund. I get back another canned response that says they will get to me within 3 days.

Fast forward to March 3rd, I receive an email that says "Your refund is on the way." And not to expect it until a few days. Really? I did receive the refund on March 3rd.

Buyer beware. If you are risky enough to order from them, good luck if you have to return it. It could take you 1 1/2 months to get your money back and a lot of hassle.

F for clarity & accessibility

I've never felt moved to write a public review like this before, but the lack of accessibility has compelled me. I bought a kit from the Devacurl website to try out the products in January 2020. Used them a few times, then saw so many cautionary reviews online that I decided I wasn't comfortable using them any more. Website says to initiate returns through email, chat, or phone, so I emailed and chatted. Kept getting told to call their phone number instead even when I said I had a cold and lost my voice (I wonder how they'd treat a Deaf or nonverbal customer? Their website talks a big game about accessibility but I'm skeptical. I asked about this via email but it wasn't acknowledged.) Similar to other reviewers, finally called the phone number on 2/27, was on hold for ~10 minutes, then talked with a rep who took down my order number, name, phone number, email, & mailing address and asked me to list the products in the kit and their sizes (which I read off the website). Shouldn't the order number be linked to all that info? I felt so bad for this rep as she was likely employed by a subcontractor and had no fault in this process. Rep said I will get a return box in 7-10 days and refund will be processed 2-4 weeks after return. We'll see. Most companies have an automated/online return process. Company's web presence is so slick and professional but everything about this feels illegitimate and outdated. Product safety aside, I wouldn't recommend this brand based on customer service process alone.
3/12 update: It's been 10 business days and I haven't received a return kit, so I emailed customer support to check in. Received a reply that my return kit should arrive 2-4 weeks from when I called. So it may be 2 more weeks before I receive it. This is wild.
5/4 update: I did finally receive the return kit, which was a number of plastic Ziploc bags to put bottles in, a form to fill out (again with exact descriptions of items being returned), and a shipping label. I followed instructions (had to use my own box) and UPS tracking says my return box was delivered 4/7. Tomorrow it will be 4 weeks since then and I have not heard anything from Devacurl or received a refund yet. Sent an email to check in.
5/6 update: received a reply to my email checking on return status: "Once product has been returned and processed please allow 6-8 weeks for reimbursement in check form." So I may need to wait at least 2-4 more weeks to receive a CHECK. (I understand COVID-19 may create delays but am shook by the check situation. Is this 2020 or 1970?) I reiterate: This. Is. Wild.
Final update: I received a refund check (dated 6/23) in the mail on 6/30. The company name on the check was Stericycle. I looked them up and apparently they "specialize in collecting and disposing regulated substances, such as medical waste and sharps, pharmaceuticals, hazardous waste, and providing services for recalled and expired goods."
Summary: this was the longest & least efficient return and refund process I've ever experienced for any product from any company of any size/budget. It took over 4 months from return initiation to refund, but felt even longer due to poor transparency and shifting information. If products were proven to be 100% safe and effective tomorrow, I would still never buy again due to this ridiculous process. To be clear: I fault the company and its thoughtlessly/hastily designed process, not customer service reps, for this experience.
Bonus September 2021 update: I thought this had been resolved over a year ago, but just got a letter in the mail stating that my return kit is about to expire and has not been received. Clearly an error, but just a cherry on top of this strange encounter with corporate disorganization.

Terrible customer service!

Final update - 1 year later: I continued to make phone calls regarding my refund and was told my case was escalated over the escalation team to highest priority and that someone would call me but as months passed, no one ever did. Cust srvc couldn’t provide me with a name or phone number so basically I hit a brick wall. I went on to DC’s FaceBook page and sent a pm. Someone replied (never got their name) and said they were passing info along. So fast forward a couple weeks later and today - 1 year later - i got my refund check!🎉 the person who emailed me said it was a “glitch” in the system and they were working to make sure it never happened again. Wow - a year later! I never thought i would get it!

Update: After numerous follow up phone calls, I was told today that my refund is in the final stage and in the next week to week and a half, a CHECK should be coming in the mail. I returned this item in March. Over 5 months and still trying to get my refund. The worst!

Terrible customer service!
I ordered the diffuser/dryer kit but decided it wasn't for me so am attempting to return. Contacted the returns email and received a reply back saying someone would get back to me in 72 hours. A week later, I followed up and received the same email reply that someone would get back to me in 72 hours. The email also said I could contact via online chat or via phone. So I go to their online chat and after explaining everything, she tells me I have to call the phone number. Ugh! Ok, I call the number and the woman asks what I want to return - I tell her "the Ultimate Care Kit" and she asks what all was in it? I said, hold on let me look it up on the Devacurl.com website for you... So I read her everything that was in it and she tells me I will receive the return authorization via snail mail in 7-10 days. She said once they receive the returned items, my refund would take another 6 - 8 weeks. WOW!! I'm glad I started this return process early because I only have 60 days to return the item for a refund and I have a feeling I'm going to have to follow up again because I'm not all that convinced my return authorization will show up...We shall see. What a hassle!

In order to write a review I had to…

In order to write a review I had to "star rate" this product line. If I could, I would give it a big fat ZERO! PLEASE, do NOT buy this product!!! I have personally experienced hair loss, irritated scalp, break outs, and most of all LOST MY CURL when I used this product back in 2016 so, it's not something new. I had no clue it was DC but, decided to change my hair care product *just in case*... low and behold... the MASSIVE amount of product users have verified my fear... DevaCurl SUCKS! DO NOT USE THIS PRODUCT!

I have been using deva curl products…

I have been using deva curl products for the past 7 years. Initially it was just one condition and ultra defining gel and after 3 years I added coconut curl cream and be'leave in . I noticed my hair becoming dry for the past one year and tried several deep conditioning treatments. Eventually there was a lot of frizz, dandruff, itching and redness. I stopped using deva for the past two weeks and definitely the redness of scalp got much better but dandruff is still a problem. In addition to that my hair is very dry and my curl pattern is lost. It's so frizzy and my curl definition is lost. I consulted various dermatologists and didn't find a permanent solution to this damage.

Carleen Sanchez: The "Best of the West" of HAIR.

I am proud to say that Carleen Sanchez of Hair Cut/Color/Style in Reno, NV has been my master hair cut/color/stylist for almost 10 years. I am a practical person by nature and had sported the same layered Farrah Fawcett hair style since the age of 14. I had attempted for many consecutive years to grow out the abundance of layers and, at age 50, finally succeeded in growing it all out to one length, keeping some fringe for bangs. With age (and spine surgery) had come a few grays and my hair had grown a darker brown from its original medium brown with natural reddish highlights. I had a desire to cover the grays and add some caramel highlights to refresh my hair and spirit. After the surgery, I was browsing Yelp when I found Carleen's rave reviews. I took a chance and called her and she returned my call and interviewed me over the telephone. She "liked my story", and by some small miracle I made it on to her client list. From my first appointment with her, I could feel how passionate and educated she was about all things hair and the satisfaction she got out of bringing her clients the ultimate in joy-filled satisfying hair experiences. She was soft-spoken but direct, helpful yet never judgmental, obviously a whiz at putting together the many facets it takes for the look I desired (her repertoire for just the right drops of hair color/highlights/glazes/gray resist sprays, etc. is off the charts), and just as important, she was mature and practical about the process. There is quite literally nothing Carleen can't do with hair, but she has never pressured me to try lots of bells and whistles. My hair is naturally curly (well, wavy or swavy would be the categories), and sometimes I use a curling iron (eek!) to get the Hollywood glam, and on the rare occasion, I will straighten (eek!) it all out when I'm in a "Cher" mood. I have also done the "Curly Girl Method" of which Carleen is infamous goddess, and one that many of her clients use on a daily basis. When you visit Carleen in the bright-orange-on-the-outside-but comfy-boho-style-house-with-her-adjoining-professional-salon-on-the-inside, it is a most pleasurable and uplifting "experience". Be prepared to forget all your daily woes, as besides your hair being taken care of by "the Best of the West", you will receive a full head/arm/hand massage, delicious snacks and drinks, your choice of free fun beauty bar services, a salon gift of your choice, hair education, supportive banter, camaraderie, and more! My hair is now long or "mermaid length" as Carleen would call it. That was the goal! The first time Carleen worked her magic on my hair ten years ago random people would come up to me and remark "how beautiful my hair was". That continues today. "How did you get that color?" they ask. And, so I tell them: Carleen Sanchez in Reno, NV. Anyone thinking of becoming a client of Carleen's needs to think long-term. She does have a wait-list and schedules clients for an entire year's worth of appointments in advance, so get on that wait-list NOW. And, I can't stress the fact that "you get what you pay for". You'll love her assistants as she screens and educates them carefully to go on to open salons of their own. They are Carleen Sanchez protoges. So, here's to Jessi (jack of all trades and still there), Loni, Anna, Skye, Kate, Lori, Katie, Deana, and anyone else's name that escapes me who has enriched my experience with Carleen. And Carleen, you are one in a million. Truly the best....... hands-down. A++++++++++++++++++++++, A zillion stars******************************* You have been blessed with magic fingers and intuition, girl!

Devacurl (Devachan) on 79 street

I made an appointment with Brian from Diva curls. I thought this will be a way for me to begin caring better for my hair.
When I got to the salon 15 minutes early, I was told he will see me at my schedule appointment\, I say okay and sat down to wait.
when Brian came to see me, he introduced himself and took me to the back.

with discuss in his look and sat me down and look at my hair. I have curly hair and all I wanted was a few highlights and a cut.

He pull one of my curls and said my hair is to damage and he was not able to do anything with it. I was destroy and in disbelieve that he was taking down to me and in a nasty manner. He said I wasted his time and that he was not able to cut my hair or wash and set.

never again, will I visit DevaCurls. I felt because I am Hispanic and everyone at this locations was white he did not know how to style my kind of hair. he loss

after this horrible experiences, and being refuse services at this salon. I ensure to share this with my friends and families. they all felt that he was not prepare to work with my hair.

they recommended Beleza Natural located in 125 and 8 avenue. i when there with low expectation as I was afraid after my last experience. It was Amazing. they showed me how to care for my hair. Colette my stylist was able to cut my hair and show kindness and respect when speaking to me. This is my place to go.

Worst customer service, bad experience

Had ordered the products with great hope (order# 100324880) but ended up losing the money coz the products never reached me. Partly it was Fedex to blame as they didn't deliver it properly but Devacurl is equally responsible by not providing correct address details (as per Fedex). And to top it when I reach out to Devacurl customer care, they do not have the slightest etiquette to get back and try to address the concern. Didn't bother to respond back after reaching out thrice. Absolutely shameless in these times when delivery standards are so high and customers are valued all over.
