NOISY HOSTEL FULL OF STUDENTS

NOISY HOSTEL. No respect for ordinary turists. THE HOSTEL IS FULL OF DANISH KIDS AND TEENAGERS THAT COME FOR CAMPING VACATIONS TO COPENHAGEN the whole year round.

There is more noise than at the TRAIN STATION DURING WEEKENDS. A wanna be manager who doesn"t speak any scandinavian language, only a miserable english goes round the lobby pushing chairs and tables to show HE IS IN CHARGE DURING THE WEEKENDS. AND THE MANAGER DOESN´T CARE. She, THE MANAGER is at home during the weekends when all this happens. CHOOSE NEXT HOUSE HOSTEL round the corner to live in peace during your holidays

System of Dan Hostel

Review of Dan Hostel – A Frequent Guest's Perspective

I have been coming to Dan Hostel for years now – nearly a decade – so I'm quite used to it. Like any hostel, it has its pros and cons, depending on what you're looking for.

Pros:
The location is excellent, and it's generally cheaper than most hotels and hostels in Copenhagen. That said, prices can spike on weekends, sometimes reaching hotel-like levels.

Cons:
Cleaning is inconsistent. Sometimes rooms look as if they haven't been touched for days. Noise is another issue, especially on weekdays, because the hostel is large and very popular with Danish and international students visiting the city. Early mornings and evenings can be chaotic – the atmosphere and the whole setup for heading out into the city feel disorganized.

The hostel is actually not popular among travelers who want company and fun, particularly among young and senior students. On weekends, many Swedish and other visitors come for enjoyment, and prices nearly double. The kitchen is fine for making tea or a hot meal, but during breakfast and dinner it becomes overcrowded. Cleaning doesn't meet typical hotel or hostel standards, and it's common for guests to take other people's eggs, cheese, etc. from the fridge.

The worst problem – booking system
The hostel's booking system is completely outdated in terms of technology and efficiency. It hasn't been upgraded in years. As a frequent guest, I am not recognized by the system at all. During busy student periods, you can only book for a maximum of two days because the system blocks further reservations. The reception staff can't help – they just tell you to book online. Even when rooms are visibly vacant for two more days, the system refuses to let you book.

Management priorities
The management seems mostly interested in group bookings (schools, student groups). Individual customers are hosted almost randomly – only brought in when groups don't fill the place. This creates real frustration for solo travelers or regulars like me who want to stay longer but get no recognition from management or the system.

Suggestions
The hostel has two options:

Be clear that groups are the priority and inform individual customers that they are not the main target.

Upgrade the system using AI and machine learning to recognize returning guests and give them priority for longer stays.

Staff and training
I've seen the same staff for years, and I honestly don't know if they receive any training or capacity building.

Final verdict
I keep coming back because the hostel is close to my workplace when I'm in Copenhagen. But if I were visiting as a tourist, I would definitely choose a different hotel or hostel.

Reply from Danhostel Copenhagen City

Dear guest,
It means a lot that you have chosen to stay with us over so many years. We're truly grateful for your continued support and for taking the time to share your thoughts with us.

We appreciate both your positive comments and your suggestions for improvement. Feedback from returning guests is especially valuable, as it helps us continue developing the experience we offer. We also understand that prices can vary throughout the year, particularly during busy periods and major events in Copenhagen, and we always strive to offer good value in a central location.

If anything during a future stay does not meet your expectations, please feel free to speak with our reception team while you're here. We're available 24/7 and always happy to help.

We look forward to welcoming you back!

Best regards
Ajay

After staying at Danhostel for 3 months…

After staying at Danhostel for 3 months (solo room) my experience has been:

The location = 10/10
You could not pick a better location.

The reception and bar staff = 15/10
Nothing but a kind and helpful reception. I believe they are the rock of Danhostel.
For a stressful time being rehoused, they really made my stay much better.
The bar is suprisingly great for it's size.

The cleaning = 5/10
The cleaning staff is fast and effective, but unfortunately I experienced several times them walking in on on me while I wasn't ready. They knock but either can't hear or ignore when you ask them to wait a sec. They do not speak English. They are extremely kind though.

The room = 7/10
Everything about the room is great and would have given a 10/10 was it not for the bad sound isolation. People walking or talking in the room above you is a real hazzle. The sound is really loud. The towels, bed sheets, the view, the bathroom etc. are perfect.

Kitchen, laundry and elevators = 8/10
Kitchen is more than great, but be prepared for guests not respecting the facilities unfortunately.
Laundry machines broke often and used too much soap, leaving soap residue on clothes. But a great temporary solution.
The programs of the dryers are poorly programmed. Only program that would actually dry clothes was the 'Time' program, choosing 1½ hour drying.
Elevators are fast and quick, but often mishandled by the school kids that were there. A better system for prioritising longer-visit people or something could have been better. Sometimes it would take 20 minutes to get down or up, if a school had just arrived.

All in all it was a really great stay. Will definitely come back.

Simple and pleasant

We were very happy with the service, the size of the rooms, comfortable beds, the view, the breakfast options and the elevator system. The staff even gave us tips to which busses to take. We highly recommend staying here.
