DO NOT take a loan with this company

DO NOT take a loan with this company. They set an amortization payment over x amount of months but the last payment is more and will not be withdrawn from last payment. Further they report to credit unions of your loan delinquency. I was $1.29 past due and the amortization calculations were set up to fail.

A most unpleasant experience w Customers Bank

On September 2, 2025 I found that someone fraudulently applied for a PPP Loan using my name and former home address as the business address of a used car place of business. Customers Bank approved the loan on 4/21/2021 for the amount of $20,833.
• I have never applied for a PPP loan.
• My former address is a single-family house in a suburban subdivision. I sold the property in August 2016.
• I have never been employed in the used car business. I am a 40-year RN. My credit bureau reports show my healthcare employment.
• Due to previous breeches of my data with a 3rd party healthcare clearinghouse, AT&T, Experian, and the IRS, I am aware my data is on the dark web. My credit bureau accounts have been frozen since 2012.

I have reported the fraudulent PPP loan to the FTC, SBA, and Customers Bank (the lending institution, guaranteed by the SBA). I have reviewed and placed fraud alerts on my 3 credit bureau reports.

All of the above was shared in my initial report to Customers Bank. When I attempted to get info from Customers Bank, the Help Desk rep was evasive and misleading despite multiple emails and attempts to get the information.
• I asked to know if any money was disbursed to the applicant.
• I asked how Customers Bank was able to access my credit bureau reports as all have been frozen since 2012
• I asked where the applicant received their loan documents e.g. email, snail mail.
• I asked with whom I was communicating via the Customers Bank PPP Help Desk (directed to by the FTC).
• I asked for a telephone number so that I could speak with a representative of the Bank.
The rep responded
• using the wrong loan number for “my” account.
• answered only one of my questions – no money was disbursed to the applicant.
• provided a telephone number for the PPP Hotline which was no longer in service.
• asked me to provide my Social Security number via email for validation of my identity.
• Advised that the loan was cancelled because it was not approved. I sent the rep screenshots from the SBA’s myPortal site showing the loan was approved by Customers Bank on 4/21/2021 in the amount of $20,883 with a Maturity Date of 4/21/2026.

I asked for a copy of the Customers Bank loan documents. I was advised that I would need to provide Customers Bank with copies of my police report and my Identity Theft report to the FTC, a copy of my drivers license, and a signed and notarized Affidavit of Identity Theft. IF only Customers Bank would have been so diligent in proving the identity of the fraudulent borrower, we wouldn’t be here today.

Customer Service is the Worst!!!

Customer Service is the Worst!!!
We had a wonderful contact person at the bank, but once she left, the next rep was all about charging outrageously high fees for any type of transaction. They hide their high fees with a simple, "this was part of the contract"; however, their fees feel predatory. They charged $160+ monthly fee for a small business account and said the fee can be waived if the account had a balance of $125K+.

In a nutshell: Terrible bottom feeders

In a nutshell: They market as AI through Upstart, as a data driven business offering the best rates. The reality is they are giving the highest rates for the maximum amount of verification they require. Customer Bank offered $5.5k at ~28%; I was offered $10k at ~15% from a different lender for fewer documents that Upstart/Customer Bank required.

Purely a funnel marketing feeding business. dishonest. Also will not delete your personal financial information when requested. Just avoid.

Funded in reasonable time

I was funded by Customers Bank through Smartbiz for my first draw PPP loan. I applied through Smartbiz 4/28/21 got PN from Customers Bank 6/8 and received funding 6/14/2021. Honestly I applied when it was down to crunch time for the end of funding and considering the amount of applications they had to review and approve I think that this was fair timing and RIGHT ON TIME might I add. Thanks guys!

Customers Bank had me wait for 3 weeks…

Customers Bank had me wait for 3 weeks for my PPP loan and then denied me even though they sent me an email saying the SBA approved me. I was told I was approved and funded. I signed the promissory note and have my copy of it as proof. They have secured my PLP#. I need them to release it immediately so that I may find a reputable bank to serve me in the short period of time I now have left. I've seen others online that have had the same bad experience. Horrible business practice!

I have contacted the bank 3x

I have contacted the bank 3x. Escalated with customer service person answering phone. To date, NO RESPONSE from this bank on my PPP loan that needed a mere date of birth change in the loan document. I filled out their online forms per their request, they advise 48-72 hours. It's been THREE WEEKS, and no response. The SBA should be investigating the business practices of SmartBiz and Customers Bank, they have unscrupulously obtained ALL of my personal info, bank info, financial info, with complete disregard for the intended purpose of securing a loan, which they had no intent to fulfill. I was told my customer service, that the previous 10 people he took calls from, had same complaint as mine. Shame on the SBA for allowing these organizations to 'hoodwink' so many people in dire need for PPP funds.

Customers bank, thank you 🙏🏼

Thank you customers bank for funding my ppp loan a day before the funds were depleted. Thank god I bank with a legit bank like WF and not some run away online bank like chime or varo or whatever. Ppl with those accounts found there funds were returned. It’s not the funding banks fault, it’s yours that you chose a online, not so credible banking service. Signed my documents on 04/15 and got funded 05/04, just like the customers bank agent told me ( he said exactly 20 days after signing). Most thanks to God because I know he made it happen!!!!!
If anyone reading this pls get a legit bank so ur funds are not returned by these short sighted online banks!!

Nightmare

On April 3, 2021 I applied for a PPP loan through smartbiz loans. About three weeks later I received loan documents to sign by the bank, customers bank, that was funding my loan. I signed the papers and on Monday, May 3, 2021 they attempted to fund my chime bank account chime apparently does not except any type of PPP loan so to anybody that is in the same position I am in applying for these loans do not use chime use another bank if you have one. Chime rejected the loan and it was sent back to Customers bank. On the smart biz website it still says that it was funded to me on the third I have tried to reach out to both customers bank reps and smart biz reps And can’t seem to get through or get a response from anyone! I finally reached out yesterday afternoon on customers bank Facebook messenger and spoke with somebody there who told me to email the new banking information to customersbank at smartbizloans com to explain that my chime account rejected and that this was my other back account to send funds too. I was told it would only take a few days but I’m Leary bc NO ONE has replied to any emails or given me an update!!! I desperately need these funds or I’m gonna lose my Business.

PPP loan funding a disaster.

I used Lendio to apply for a PPP loan and they used Customers Bank (CB)to fund the loan. This was my first round and I was told it was approved on 2/23/2021.
a week later I was contacted via Lendio that CB noticed a discrepancy in my listed bank account number and the voided check I sent in with my application. Turns out my account number was missing the last 2 digits on the loan documents. I was asked to resend the voided check. I did and it has just gone downhill from there. Lendio says the hold up in Customers Bank and CB tell me it's Lendios fault. I have had 2 additional sets of loan docs sent and signed and still no funding. All over a clerical error. I have tried reaching out to both institutions and at least Lendio tries to contact CB. CB won't even look at their system and tell me if everything is in order on their system. Stay away.
