Absolute waste of time
Absolute waste of time. I spent dozens of hours studying for tests and qualifications. Was told I passed. Was told to wait for an onboarding email. Then got an email that i was removed for "unresponsiveness" instead. Absolute trash platform. Do not waste your time with them. Delete your account and walk away.
Let me start with their helpless desk
Let me start with their helpless desk. I have yet to get a response back from their support team that has ever resolved a single issue. The responses tend to be auto generated and never address the question. The issues are numerous but the latest is this type example: Every project I have attempted to become a part of tends to end like this. I provide all documentation, I pass all required tests, I submit my very legitimate identification card. After submitting a message appears that states "That’s all we need to start verifying your identity". From that point, everything hits a brick wall and I cannot advance past that point regardless of how many helpdesk tickets I submit requesting some feedback on what the issue is because the ID card is legitimate and the photos are clear and very visible. Every project I have are all stuck at this point and have been for month's with no explanation as to why. It has gotten to the point that I wonder if the corporation is a fraud. They request all this personal information but you never start the first project and the only way to communicate with anyone is thru their support link but you never get any help outside of a generic response stating we have your ticket and someone will be reaching out to you but no one EVER reaches out to you and the ticket eventually gets closed as RESOLVED.
Legit but low quality AI training employer
A close friend and I have both had experience working for Appen/CrowdGen for about a year. During the same period, I have also worked with several other similar platforms. The broader market is quite poor in many, though not all, comparable cases, and that context does raise my relative assessment of CrowdGen to 3 stars. However, this does not mean that my overall experience with the platform has been genuinely positive.
CrowdGen is a legitimate company in the basic sense that, for the most part, it pays what it promises and usually does so on the stated dates. That said, there are some important caveats. For example, I have seen questionable offers, such as the option to let Chinese clients use your IP address for web crawling in exchange for a couple of dollars per day. I also had experience with a project accessed through their platform that redirected to a company in China, where the pay rate was presented as $80/hour. Even a very generous interpretation would have made it closer to $20/hour, but in practice the actual rate was approximately $4/hour. This was a deliberately non-transparent and exploitative way of describing compensation, and essentially modern slavery. Apart from cases like these, the platform’s activity has generally been legitimate, and payments have arrived as promised.
Pay rates vary, but for someone living in a country with a cost-of-living profile similar to Finland, the average realistic expectation is a little over $20/hour. In my case, that is roughly one third of what I earn on average from comparable work on platforms I consider worth my time.
The quality of the platform itself is not that great either. The interface is poorly implemented, and it comes as a surprise when everything works as intended. Bugs and glitches are common, and in some cases they can mean wasting an hour or day on work that cannot be completed or properly submitted.
Another major issue is the number of false calls regarding available work. After receiving an email from CrowdGen saying that tasks are waiting on a specific project, I would estimate there is only about a 5% chance that everything will actually work and real tasks will actually be available. This is a different thing from platforms that might disappoint you for simply having very limited available work over time; here, we're talking about receiving concrete emails about supposedly available tasks, only to find that 19 times out of 20 there is nothing going on. I understand it is not easy to set up a company with such international activity, but being so terribly unreliable in such a terribly trivial matter can definitely be avoided with some testing before spamming around emails and wasting the time of human civilization.
Overall, CrowdGen is a mostly legitimate platform, with some concerning exceptions, but it is poorly built, poorly coordinated, and offers mediocre pay rates. Its business model seems to depend heavily on people who need remote income badly enough to tolerate a certain amount of unpaid mumbo jumbo. That said, it may still be suitable for some people, such as parents who need flexible work they can do in short bursts while caring for children, or anyone looking for occasional remote income from home. However, if other options are available, CrowdGen projects would be among the last places I would choose to spend my working time.
waste of time
they don't care that's the main motto. endless certifications and exams without work. When you are bored by their email, they send a new email you didn't apply to the offer so it does not exist anymore. Keep it. Don't be such ..... Changing the name from appen to crowdgen does not protect your reputation you still have a bad reputation and you waste people's time for nothing. A shame platform
Unrecorded Work and Zero Transparency: The Reality of Working with Appen
I am writing this review to highlight a serious issue regarding work transparency and tracking on the Appen platform, specifically concerning the Sirius project.
During the first part of this month, I successfully completed 27 tasks. However, to this day, these tasks are still not reflected in my work count or user metrics. Leaving independent contractors completely in the dark without any updates for weeks is unacceptable. We have the right to know if our working hours are being tracked correctly before the end of the month, rather than waiting and hoping for an update in June.
I have full evidence and screenshots proving the completion of these 27 tasks, which have already been provided to support.
I have opened a formal inquiry regarding this issue. I sincerely hope Appen takes immediate action to correct my task count and addresses this lack of communication. I will gladly update this review and my rating once the issue is properly resolved and my work is officially recognized.
Complete waste of time.
Complete waste of time. I hope this is not a company that exists simply to collect information but there were many red flags and when I tried to close the account they would not let me. ??
Underpaying by a lot
UHRS Task by Crowdgen- Worked for over…
UHRS Task by Crowdgen- Worked for over a month. As the pay is low still managed to earn some 12-15$ but that disappeared suddenly. When I contacted support on crowdgen they delayed it further and eventually said your record does not exists in our system. They had paid me some 2$ before for another task! Wasted my time and effort and did not pay my earned pennies!!! Pathetic....!@#$

I don't trust this company. As soon as I uploaded my personal information on this platform, it deactivated my account and could not communicate why in detail. I requested my account to be permanently deleted and personal information to be shredded with no response. I hope this is not one of those personal data collection scams! However, this behavior feels predatory.
Don't bother
Got stuck in the ID-verification process so after months of being stuck, i submitted a ticket, they closed the ticket saying it was resolved, which it wasn't. Submitted another one and after weeks they closed it again saying they can't verify me and i won't be able to work for them. So it's been 6 months of nothing and they didn't even try to help me.
There's clearly a big flaw in their ID verification system as i have been able to proceed with other similiar online platforms without problems.
Unreliable, untrustworthy "company"
Joke of a company.
The government ID verification was never confirmed/accepted, despite the site's automated verification system claiming everything was OK. Because of that, I couldn't join any projects.
Of course, I contacted them to understand what the issue was.
At first, they pretended not to understand the issue.
Then, they told me they would transfer my issue to the ID verification team so they can fix it. A week past without any reply and my problem was still there.
So I sent another ticket... which was closed within 12h without even a reply.
They're literally ignoring you when you have a problem.
Avoid at all costs.
Crowdgen should be avoided as a…
Crowdgen should be avoided as a workplace. I recently completed tasks for a project, but some of my completed tasks were removed from the record, and the support team could not offer any reasonable solution. They only insisted that their system records were correct and asked me to provide screenshots as proof, which is unrealistic when their tracking does not match my actual working hours. In the end, they placed all responsibility on me as the worker, which feels very unsafe and creates a real risk of losing income at any time due to their own system failures.
UNBELIEVABLE joke of a "company"!!
UNBELIEVABLE joke of a "company"!!
My passport/ID was under review for weeks and weeks and weeks despite the fact that it should have been a case of 15 minutes - then it said 48 hours.... and then I got fobbed off and fobbed off despite entering a support ticket every other week, with these incompetent people telling me I just had to wait a bit longer. The thing is, the ID check was the last step of SEVEN for a job application - and I just got an email saying that my application was cancelled due to MY UNRESPONSIVENESS ! This is like a bad movie!
Stay away from this absolute joke of a loose association of chaotic incompetence. I will not do it the favour of calling it a company.
scams company
scams company, waste of time for monkey work for complicated tasks that
AVOID AT ALL COSTS!
AVOID AT ALL COSTS!
And I do mean costs, because they are involved. It will cost you hours upon hours of wasted time trying to get the tasks to function properly, trying to get helpdesk to actually help, then eventually saying I quit and still be on their message DLs.
And you won’t have earned one red cent.
Something this broken shouldn’t continue to exist.
Complete scam and a total waste of…
Complete scam and a total waste of time! They kept prompting me over Christmas to finish their elaborate quizes, onboarding and project trainings only to finally find out that there's absolutely no work available and projects to do. I just wish I had never wasted precious time, unpaid hours, and gave away personal information. Don’t bother with them, not even for a minute! Very dissapointing.
Not a scam.
They do pay. But every different project works differently, for some info is clear and for others it's confusing.
I've not worked for about two weeks, yet I was sent feedback (mistakes I've made) for last week...?
But the jobs are interesting.
Waste of Time and Very Unprofessional
I had waited for about 5 weeks for the Project Thyme onboarding email to be sent after completing several qualification steps, quizzes, and identity verification, only to be ignored.
When I reached out to support previously, I was told that I just had to wait, but nothing happened after that.
Instead, I received an automated email informing me that I was no longer eligible for a project I hadn’t even applied to.
This was very unprofessional and a complete waste of time!
Total waste of time
Appen Crowdgen is an absolute waste of time, I signed up over 2 weeks ago, spent hours on tasks I thought were paid work only to not have earned a penny, how is this even legal?
Was showen for several projects
Was selected for several projects, even got a message start earning now! Etc and nothing happened so I reached out and got the answer that even if I qualify and gets chosen , I will not get chosen, so bye bye
