We were in the unfortunate position…

We were in the unfortunate position recently of having to put down two pets within weeks of each other at Cromwell Vets. After noticing some less than stellar reviews on here I thought I would take a minute to praise the excellent care my pets got. They were with them for 19 years and we received nothing but excellent service at both the St Neots and Huntingdon branches.
When the end sadly came for my pets, we were all looked after very well. Good advice, compassion and most importantly, a dignified end for our beloved animals.

Hope These People Are Shut Down

I won’t go into detail about my specific experience, however I had no idea any vets practice could be so corrupt and dishonest.

The only thing they are interested in is money, no professional ethics, complete disregard for animals or their clients.

In my opinion they should be shut down permanently.

It’s always very telling when a company does not even attempt to respond to so many 1 star reviews…. They are just horrendous.

AVOID at all costs if you care about your animal.

I am giving one star as there is no…

I am giving one star as there is no option to give less! We used Cromwell vets for years for all of our pets but service levels started to decline rapidly about 2 years ago which led us to seek another vet in 2024.

Our old dog was on constant meds for various ailments and Cromwell let us down on 9-10 occasions when we ordered repeat prescriptions. We would be informed that meds were ready for collection but when we arrived to collect they were not. This led to several unsuccessful 40 minute round trips to their surgery together with pain and distress for the animal whilst these delays went on.

Our retriever presented with a lump in January 2024 and we called Cromwells who advised us that it was probably a cyst and unless it changed, they would investigate at her next check up. My daughter took her for her check up and the vet declared that she could not find the lump, which was clearly visible on her side. We moved to a new practice and they took a sample from the lump which turned out to be cancerous and operated the next day. Our dog, has thankfully made a full recovery but had we stayed with Cromwell's, the outcome would probably have been that we lost her. I contacted Cromwell's to advise what had happened and received an email from their practice, suggesting that my daughter was to blame for their vet not finding the lump as she had been unable to pinpoint the lump. The fact that my 20 year old daughter is not a trained medical professional and the vet on duty, presumably was seems to be a fact that has completely escaped them!

If I was providing a review for poor service, money grabbing techniques and rudeness, I would be giving them 5 stars.

This was once a good practice but now, they are quite literally only interested in money, they do not give a hoot about their clients or the pets that they treat. I would not use them again if they were the last veterinary practice open in the country and I would certainly not recommend them to anyone.

I would not trust anyone else with my dear Ruby!

We have used the Cromwell practice for over 25 years, they have cared for our cats and now are looking after our nine year old Cockapoo . My main practice is St Neots but on occasions have used Camborne, Huntingdon and Sawtry. I have allways received the very best treatment, from a friendly greeting by the reception staff to professional service from the nurses and Vets. Our Cockapoo is on the all of life plan they offer, for a small monthly fee it includes a great deal and with reminders of routine medication ( Worm, flea treatment) included it’s very useful and I would recommend this. So all in all after. 25 Years I would not trust anyone else with my dear Ruby.

Went to Cromwell vet Huntingdon to have…

Went to Cromwell vet Huntingdon to have my poor doggy put to sleep. The vet Lucy was only interested in payment she asked as soon as she came in the room, then asked three more times about payment before I lost my baby. She then left us alone and said we could have as much time as we liked, three minutes later she was back in the room asking about payment again.Very heartless person all she was interested was payment.

Cromwell vets Ramsey

In April 2024 we took our lame springer to Cromwell vets Huntingdon as our local Cromwell vet in Ramsey did not have a X-ray machine
After the X-ray we were told our dog had arthritis all across he back legs and hips
We then went along a expensive trail of visits and drugs of which 1 drug supplied was £200 which when questioned we then got the same drug on another brand for £38
5 months of visits drugs and physio and making no difference to the dogs limp
I started to not believe the story so I visited the vets and discussed a second opinion
Upon arrival at the specialist directly we were told the X-rays had been requested but not supplied 3 times so while there we and the specialist call Cromwell who were determined at this point that the X-rays had been emailed but they would resend. The receptionist came through a few mins later saying she had a message from Cromwell say they did not have any X-Rays for our dog
Our dog was X-rayed later that day and only arthritis in 1 knee was found but as I suspecting she had a torn cruciate ligament which was repaired and she is now well on the way to a full repair and is drug free and both of our dogs are no longer regd at Cromwell vets

Rude and unhelpful

Rude and unhelpful. Spoke to a girl on the phone. Attitude smelt worse than my rats cage. Zero empathy or care shown. Just money grabbing robots that actually don't care about animals at all. Changing Vets ASAP.

Routine care used as a hard sell platform

My Pet Plan for our dog included anal gland evacuation and I took her for an appointment. The technician asked questions leading me to think my dog had allergies and waxed up ears. She showed me the supposedly dirty ear holes but I've no point of contrast. She recommended I see a vet same day. The vet recommended long term allergy treatments and prescribed initial medication and ear wash. She extolled the virtues of vet approved wash, disappearing out back to loudly say the same (allegedly to a person ordering it in). Despite an £18 a month plan, I ended up paying £98. The receptionist said the expensive antihistomines and blood tests required for longer term allergy treatment could be claimed on insurance.

My dog bites her nails occasionally, scatches a bit and its a spaniel, lots of things probably get in her ears. I strongly suspect I've paid for unnecessary treatment and feel one of two consultation included in my plan have been squandered. Whether required treatment or not, I've almost certainly fallen foul of hard sell tactics. My wife was very annoyed with me.

More interested in money than pet

More interested in money than pet, took £8.5 grand, dog in a terrible state and still wanted to try again for another 2K having told us 1/2 hour before wouldn’t survive anymore treatment. Guess money ment more to them than the fact they killed our dog treating it for something that it didn’t have!

Cromwell Vets threatened to put our dog to sleep if we didn't pay for treatment she didn't even need

Taking our family dog to Cromwell Vets was the biggest mistake I have ever made.

Our first consultation seemed a bit odd. After little more than a glance at our dog the vet immediately presented us with two options: spend several hundred pounds on a set of tests, or think about having her put to sleep. The way this was presented was concerning, we were not given any kind of breakdown of the suggested treatments, there was no communication related to the medical value of any of the treatments and there was absolutely no consideration given to the affordability of these options.

When we made it clear we had a limited budget the vet still didn't offer any additional suggestions or options. We essentially had to specifically ask detailed questions about the treatments being suggested and try to make our own guesses as to the value and priority of these. There was no real medical advice being given here, we were essentially talking to a sales rep in a vet's uniform. After having to work out the best option for ourselves, we opted to have our dog stay in overnight on the understanding that they would only perform a specific set of tests.

We were repeatedly promised a phone call in 'around two hours' to get some initial test results and talk about next steps. The phone call never arrived. After four hours we called and asked for an update, only to be told they were busy and a vet would call back. Finally, over five hours after leaving our dog, we got the phone call.

The pattern here was much the same as the initial 'consultation'. We were essentially bombarded with a list of additional tests and presented with the same type of ultimatum: pay up or have our dog put to sleep. Once again, the vet made no attempt to communicate the relative value, priority or likely outcomes of any specific treatment. Even though we had already made it clear we were on a budget the vet also made absolutely no attempt to work with us to work out a course of treatments that we could afford. It was exactly the same false choice that was presented earlier by a different member of staff: sign the cheque or they pull the trigger.

At this point it became apparent that we were seeing Cromwell Vets' standard sales tactic. It appears to be carefully designed to get the customer to agree to the largest possible range of treatments and it doesn't waste any time on such non-profit-making tasks such as explaining these to the customer. You can see how this works: present the customer with every treatment they can think of and then present the only alternative choice as having your pet put to sleep. This neatly enables Cromwell Vets to generate vast amounts of revenue from customers with the means, or insurance, to pile cash into Cromwell Vet's bank account. For everybody else they still make money by charging customers to have their pets put to sleep. It is a highly efficient cash generating business model.

The big problem here is that this should never be allowed to happen. Staff employed by by Cromwell Vets are supposed to be regulated by the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons, this means that they have committed to following a specific code of professional conduct. I checked the conduct we saw from at least two Cromwells Vets staff members against the 'Veterinary nurses and clients' section of the RCVS code of conduct and found that every single aspect of the code of conduct had been blatantly ignored by the staff. They appear to have conveniently forgotten about their commitment to a code of conduct or, more likely, have been convinced by Cromwell Vets to subscribe to an alternate 'process for maximising profits' based code instead. They essentially appear to have sold themselves out.

At this point we were in a truly horrific position, it felt like Cromwells Vets were holding our family dog to ransom and had no interest whatsoever in her welfare. We were simply required to keep shovelling them cash in order to stop them from killing her. We knew she might be ill, maybe that it was time for her to go to sleep but the realisation that we had delivered our loyal little dog into the hands of people that simply wanted to use her life as a tool to extract money hit exceptionally hard.

At this point we drove to Cromwells Vets and demanded the return of our dog. Getting her back was not easy but we did eventually extract her from Cromwells Vets' ransom cell.

To add insult to injury, it turned out that our dog's health issue was easily identified and easily treated. After seeking alternate advice and few days careful feeding, hydration and pain medication, she is now getting stronger every day.

I consider this to be a lucky escape, although I genuinely dread to think about how many other animals were not so fortunate and ended up as innocent casualties of Cromwell Vets' profit-before-welfare mentality.

0 star really

Poor communication. Poor service. Contradicting views between vets here, which makes looking after your pet hard. Didn't tell me everything that I later found on my pets notes I requested that would have been helpful to know. Discharged my pet after a few days stay, told me any issues call of which I had to and too them 5 hours to bother getting back to me.
After my cat passed away, they still charged me my pet club amount the month after. No apology or explanation.
Explained I would be charged for any product given that is now Iver my due amount.
Collecting my cats ashes, I had to request my paw prints and wait 10mins whilst already hoset for them to do this.
Go to somewhere that isn't all about the monet and actually care.

Vets Fleecing customers...SHAME ON YOU.

Another example of a vets fleecing the public, who just want to take their Dogs to France. Just to fill out the certs, they were charging £143 for the 1st dog last week now they have raised the cost to £300 for the 1st dog. For the same service.! They claimed it was because it took 2 hours to fill out, losing 6 appointments, what utter rubbish. I have just been there the consultation/exam took place in the reception area, not even in a private room. 40 minutes later a few bits of paper filled out.
This service should never cost me £350 for 2 dogs, what a disgrace.
SHAME ON YOU.!
