Superb system when programmed well
System depends entirely on how it's programmed AND
using reliable devices, So no CHEAP TVs or CHEAP components. Cheap stuff like DIY Stuff sold at stores is not robust enough to communicate with any control system
We have had URC TOTAL CONTrol and RTI, both are supbar to C4.
The cheap stuff sold at stores is meant to work alone and be done by anyone that can follow app instructions. AND NO, they are not automation systems, they are simple things that do basic functions that cannot be connected to by a computer.
Control4 works excellent WHEN programmed well using, in addition to their own multi room matrixes, reliable TV, (High end SOny, some Samsung, a few LG's and Some vizios) No cheap TV. Denon/marantz work perfect with it, sonos too, heos too, blue rays too, DTVt too, NEst sucks, ECCOBBE IS WAYYY Better.
We have have had this system for years
We have have had this system for years, the previous owner installed it and also thought it was aweful. Initially, we had one of tire integrators in to straighten it out. They were expensive and useless. It has never worked properly. Support from Control4 is non existent. Virtually non of this system works correctly including their doorbell. Do anything but use these people. Heck they don't even answer their phone.
Control 4 Buyers Beware
Don’t ever let these people near your home. Never ever allow them to connect your TV through their home wrecking system. Thousands and thousands of dollars to keep it functioning. I’ve had enough and will be dismantling the system and then burning the components to end this 10 year nightmare. Bravos and the predecessors and successors that have tried to fix this system don’t know a anything except how to send you bills to repair things that never consistently work
Avoid like the plague!
I moved into this house 6 years ago and the Control4 was already installed. I have found out that the previous house owners had had lots of problems but said nothing.I have now had 6 years of frustration with a system that is so unreliable if I could rip it out I would! Unfortunately it is in the fabric of the house and linked to a smart lighting system so a rip out is not possible. I have had several "engineers" who "fix" it only to have it fail a few weeks later (or sooner). The video locks up or the audio fails. The blinds fail and the lights lock up. Several changes of equipment and over £10,000 in calls and the equipment and I am still left with a nightmare. Under no circumstances would I advise anyone to even think about having Control4 installed. Avoid like the plague!
You can never switch after they have installed your system.
I have a control 4 system that has worked sporadically over the past decade. It is what it is. Electronics do not always work. The problems, however, include the following:
- Once installed, you are literally forbidden from doing anything to the system. The smallest change requires a service call at whatever rate your installer charges.
- There are no cheap fixes. See the first point. The fixes start at the price of the service call and simply go up.
- You cannot use any equipment without the dealer even if you remove the Control4 stuff. It is all password protected and though you as the homeowner may own the equipment, you cannot get into the system at all.
I was interested in trying one of the other smart home systems and eventually went with my own build. It was an absolute (and avoidable) nightmare. There is no way that I'd ever spend the kind of money that I spent and have literally zero control over the product that I purchased. That set up is fantastic for a select few but even high net worth individuals want a little control over the products that they spend 5-6 figures to purchase.
Not happy with an app customer Care
Not happy with an app customer Care . I have Control 4 installed over my house and I can’t manage it thought my phone . Customer care is very unhelpful
Horrible
Horrible! Don’t use them! Once they have control of your systems, you can’t get anyone else to fix problems.
For example I have a light switch that falls apart. I can’t get an electrician to fix the problem. I have to have Texadia to come out at $1800 per trip!
Don’t waste your money! It’s a proprietary system that handcuffs you into their expensive contractors.
The system is unreliable
The system is unreliable. Works very slow. Not worth the money. You can have better results by getting nest cameras and WiFi or Bluetooth light switches.
Control4 is a very frustrating system. Do not buy.
Frustratingly Outdated and Restrictive
We moved into a house with Control4 installed. We had to make updates and were ready to enjoy the automation. After 4 years of using it, I’ve found Control4 to be disappointingly outdated and honestly not worth the hassle. The technology feels old-school and tired compared to the modern smart home systems out there. We don’t use the entertainment component. We stopped using the thermostat component. One of the biggest frustrations is that you can’t really access or control things yourself—you’re forced to go through a service company for even simple changes. Plus, they’re now pushing a subscription fee just to maintain voice control with Alexa.
In a world full of newer, more user-friendly, and subscription-free smart home solutions, Control4 just doesn’t cut it. In fact, I’m thinking about ripping the system out. If I had the choice again, I’d never go with Control4. It’s just not worth the limitations and the added costs when there are so many better options available.
This system is totally unreliable
This system is totally unreliable. We have had it installed for seven years now and I don't think there has been a day that there wasn't something that was not working right. It is beyond frustrating, but we have come to just accept it and move on until we can remedy whatever the quirk of the day is. Save your money and live longer. Steer clear of Control 4.
Really should be zero stars
it really should be a zero. After many tech visits and programming, system could still not work reliably with Samsung TV and surround sound system. So gave up on that, deciding just to use the system for whole home audio. Now when streaming songs off my iPhone, calls or other iPhone activity disconnect the audio. Not going to bother with "programming" as it appears not to work with Control 4. Expensive system, does nothing.
I purchase this system 8 yrs ago and…
I purchase this system 8 yrs ago and it’s been frustration on top of frustration, this system is a money pit plus extremely poor customer service after purchase .I would never again purchase this system .Make yourself a favour do not invest in a control4 system .
What a disaster.
3 years ago, I put his system in my home at a cost of about $65,000 including Sonos etc. I tied in all my TV's, lights, fireplaces etc.
Worst decision i ever made. I can never get my TV to reliably work and anytime i need a light changed, i need to contact the programer. It has caused me so much stress..... especially the Television. How could something so seemingly simple be made so complex.
If you're considering it, i strongly urge you to reconsider. Worst decision i ever made.
Avoid! Overpriced and unreliable
Avoid!! We bought a new house with the C4 system installed. From day 1 it has never reliably worked. It is impossible to troubleshoot or do any updates yourself, that can only be done by an authorised dealer. But none of the dealers are interested in maintenance, they only want to do installations, so if you can actually persuade someone to come out the callout or repair is very expensive. We're stuck with it as it controls the entry system for us and 5 other houses (some of the time!) but if it were my choice alone I'd cut our losses and rip it out.
Not worth it
Not worth it. Item and idea is great but there is no responsibility and reliability for system. If you call control4 they ask you to call dealer. When you call dealer. Dealer ask for £250 just for call out. I don’t understand why customers can’t check own system if any minor faults they should fix them self. Control4 should stop selling devices. If they can’t take any responsibility. I spend £70,000. After year dealer ask me to buy new control4 unit.
Still every month problem after court case I recover only £35,000.
Rubbish please don’t waste your money.
Good idea, terrible execution.
The idea behind control 4 is excellent, however, as many users will tell you its useless. Had control 4 in my house for about 7 years now and it has never worked consistently for more than a month at a time. Always some small problem that you can fix yourself but once a year there's always a big problem where a technician has to come to the house to fix it. Certain aspects of control 4 within my house have stopped working completely, for example, the speaker system in every room and blind system. If you want a long-lasting house control system stay far far away from control 4 as I guarantee it will break. Willing to be with any sceptics...
Just doesn't work consistently
Just doesn't work consistently . Whatever happened to the day when you just turn on your tv and watch it. There is no support except to contact your installer. I am tired of waiting for them to come out to my house just to watch tv. Installers only want the big job. Save yourself some money and get a setup that you can work on yourself
Inconsistent experience Constant Issues and Service
System is always needing a reset. Programming of the doorbell to the TV never stays on and does not work. One room shuts off whenever it wants. Now I am told I may need a new Matrix switch after only 6 years. This has gone on for years and continues all the time. I am considering ripping it all out and going with a different system not named Control4.
Their “customer” assistance personnel…
Their “customer” assistance personnel flatly refused to discuss problem I am having with their app, despite using their products on 5Ok project. One star is optimistic review and can not in any way positively review this experience.
